Duke Ellington & John Coltrane

CD (Item 135383) Impulse, 1962 — Condition: Used
$2.99 ...

CD

A seminal meeting of the old and new generations of jazz – put together in perfect Impulse fashion! At some level, this is actually a Coltrane Quartet album, with Duke sitting in for McCoy Tyner – as that's the lineup on about half of the album, tracks that feature Coltrane, Elvin Jones, and Jimmy Garrison with Ellington on the keys. At another level, it's Trane playing with a Duke-ish trio that has Aaron Bell on bass and Sam Woodyard on drums – but either way, it's a surprisingly successful meeting of the minds. Titles include "Big Nick", "The Feeling Of Jazz", "Take The Coltrane", and "My Little Brown Book".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(2007 UMG digipak pressing.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Fantastic – and one of Mingus' greatest albums ever! This one ranks right up with The Clown and Pithecantropus Erectus for sheer raw power and emotion – and Mingus' writing here is incredibly tight, giving soloists like Charlie Mariano, Jaki Byard, Richard Williams, and Jerome ... CD

Wrapped Tight
Impulse/MCA, 1965. Used

John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman

John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman
Impulse, 1963. Used
A landmark album of vocal jazz – and one of the few sessions that John Coltrane ever cut with a singer! In a way, the album's more Hartman's than it is Coltrane's – given that Johnny's warm, mellow style of singing isn't as free and open as Trane at his most adventurous – but at ... CD

Impulse, 1973. Used
Great Impulse work from Keith Jarrett – recorded at a time when he had a lot sharper edge than later years, and was really matching the spirit of some of the post-Coltrane generation players on the label! The date's a live one, and features some relatively extended tracks – tunes that ... CD
