Ella Washington

LP (Item 13423) Sound Stage 7, 1969 — Condition: Very Good
Also available
Ella Washington — Ella Washington ... CD 6.99

A rare set of deep deep deep soul vocals by one of the best singers on the Sound Stage 7 label – Ella Washington's self-titled gem from 1969! Ella's vocals are as great as those of the soul superstar divas of the day, and she's backed by a beautifully tight band – in a style that rivals, or dare we say it, may even better some of the great records made at Hi or Stax at the time! Here's proof that some of the deepest soul ever made in Tennessee was actually recorded in Nashville. Tracks include "Stop Giving Your Man Away", "Sweeter And Sweeter", "Fragile", "Starving For Love", "He Called Me Baby", "All The Time", "The Affair" and more. Fantastic!  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some ring and edge wear, bent corners, and some stains along the opening.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

77 Records/Sound Stage 7, Early 70s. Near Mint-
One of the few rare full LPs on the Sound Stage Seven label – and a collection of excellent late 60s singles by Sir Lattimore Brown (not to be confused with the Latimore from Miami!) Latimore

Latimore
Glades, 1973. Very Good+
Latimore's first album – and a classic bit of Miami soul! The record's something of a groundbreaker – as it mixes older southern soul with some bluesy inflections – using small combo instrumentation and a warm sweet sound on production to create a new groove that pushed soul ... Smash, 1966. Very Good+
Possibly the best instrumental album that James Brown cut for Smash! Spanky Wilson

Specialty Of The House
Westbound, 1975. Very Good+
Spanky's last album before her recent revival, a jazzy soulful effort cut for Westbound, with arrangements by Johnny Allen, and a nice moody mellow sound. The overall approach is quite different than most of her work with HB Barnum, but Spanky's voice is still in great shape, and Detroit soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Communication
United Artists, 1971. Very Good+
One of the all-time great ones from Bobby Womack – and a set that definitely helped push the singer into the mainstream of soul in the 70s! Temptations

All Directions
Gordy, 1972. Very Good+
The Temptations going in all directions – and all of them pretty darn groovy too! The set's still heavy on the solid, righteous sound of Norman Whitfield – who gives some of the best cuts that psychedelic soul imprint he really perfected with the group – a quality that has a lot ... RCA, 1975. Very Good+
Nice collection of some of the earlier raw funk cut by this huge collective for RCA.
