A beautiful swirling instrumental LP that features the classic "Love's Theme", the cut that made Barry a multi-millionaire, and which firmly established his sophisticated orchestral soul style as one of the trademarks of the 70s! This is the ultimate in 70s soul class – from the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Not necessarily a soul LP, but a nice bit of 70's pop by the man who wrote a number of big soul hits. Kenny produced and sings, and the LP includes "Wakin Up To Love", "Love's Grown Deep", and "I Like Dreamin". LP, Vinyl record album
An excellent bit of Chicano funk from Tierra – one of the group's first records, and maybe even their rarest! The vibe here is great – far-reaching and righteous – a wicked blend of west coast early 70s changes, with a great blend of Latin, soul, and funk – and maybe just a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Once a raw harmony group, the Younghearts moved into a sweeter, smoother soul vein for their 20th Century recordings, and the result is an excellent batch of modern soul tracks with a nice groove to them. This album includes their great groover "Do You Have The Time (parts 1 & 2)", ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic by Brenton Wood – one that crossed over big, and which was a real bright spot on the indie soul scene of the late 60s! Brenton's sound is kind of a swinging LA one – a bit pop in parts, but all-soul on the vocals, which are a bit sweet, but with a raspy edge that's always ... LP, Vinyl record album
An archetypal album by Roy – and one that really shows him at the turning point of his sound! Gone are the trippier jazz funk moments of earlier albums – and in their place are some tight grooves and wonderfully spacey soul. Roy hits the dancefloor with one of his first up-tempo funk ... Early early early work by The Isley Brothers – an album built around their huge rock and roll hit "Shout" – one of those numbers you've heard a million times, in a million versions, and which you've probably forgotten came from the first trio of Isleys way back before they ... Nice mix of jazz and soul, with Earl Hines leading the group, and Weldon Irvine on piano and arrangements. The set's got a few nice originals, like "Love Love Love", "Understanding", and "I Can't Trust Myself". The best cuts are fast jazzy grooves, with a nice jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
An obscure little funky group from Detroit, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! ... Amazing stuff from Isaac Hayes! Although Ike had first appeared on LP with the album "Introducing", this was the first record to really expose his true soul genius – and it was also the first release on Ike's successful sub-label at Stax, Enterprise Records. The record shows that ... LP, Vinyl record album
The classic Atlantic LP that turned Esther from a rough-hewn, junkie, juvenile R&B singer into a sensitive interpreter of ballads, standards, and pop tracks. Her version of the Beatles title track is amazing, and she sings it with a fragility and sensitivity that Lennon and McCartney could ... LP, Vinyl record album
Killer work – kind of in the same style as the best albums in the Cadet/Concept mode! The album's a masterpiece of the sort of jazz/soul/eazy crossover vein that characterized some of the late 60's work out of Chicago by people like Melvin Jackson or Ramsey Lewis – with a host of ...
