One of the few rare non-trio recordings done by Powell from around this time. He plays with a trio (Paul Chambers bass, Art Taylor drums) on the whole first side of the record, but the group's then joined by Curtis Fuller for all of side 2. Fuller's deep trombone makes for a different twist, and a slightly deeper sound than usual – especially given that the album was recorded live at Birdland.
