It Could Happen to You

LP (Item 125754) Charly (UK), 1982 — Condition: Sealed
Originally: 14.99
Features Akkerman on guitars, Kenneth Knudsen on keyboards, Pablo Nahar on bass, and Ole Theill on drums.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 80s issue, still sealed. Cover is slightly curled at the top right corner.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Didier Malherbe

Bloom
Charly (UK), 1980. Very Good+
An overlooked 80s album from reedman Didier Malherbe – best known for his 70s experiments in jazz and prog! The style here continues that mode, but adds in a touch of fusion – but all in a way that's very tasteful, and much cooler than the cover might make you expect! LP, Vinyl record album

John Coltrane/Wayne Shorter/Coleman Hawkins/George Coleman/Von Freeman

Masters Of The Tenor Sax (5LP Set)
Affinity/Charly (UK), Late 50s/1960s/Mid 70s. Near Mint- 5LP Set

Roland Kirk

We Free Kings
Mercury, 1961. Near Mint-
A hell of a record from the young Roland Kirk – one of his first for Mercury Records, and the start of a great run of genius in the 60s! Kirk is mindblowing here – playing tenor, flute, manzello, and stritch – often at the same time, as pictured on the cover – a mode that's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Benny Carter

Further Definitions
Impulse, 1961. Near Mint- Gatefold
A key later album from alto saxophonist Benny Carter – one that has him at the helm of a largeish group, but playing with a nicely focused sort of groove! In addition to Benny's alto, the record also features tenor sax from Charlie Rouse and Coleman Hawkins, plus one more alto from Phil ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, Late 50s. Near Mint-
A great little record, and one that shows just why Blue Note chose to put "amazing" in the title of every Bud Powell album they released! The set's a live one, done at Birdland – and Bud's working here with a trio that features the young Sam Jones on bass and Philly Joe Jones on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wes Montgomery

So Much Guitar!
Riverside, 1961. Near Mint-
So much guitar – but never too much, given that Wes was the real master of sound and space, even at this early point in his career! The album's one that tries to break Montgomery from some of his smaller combo albums for Riverside, and pair him with a few bigger names – Hank Jones on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Metheny/Ornette Coleman

Song X
Geffen, 1986. Near Mint-
At the height of his success, Pat tries to prove to the world that he's still got cred – and hooks up with Ornette, Charlie Haden, and Denardo Coleman for a little bit of harmelodic jamming. Thing is, we actually liked the slick stuff better! Titles include "Mob Job", "Video ... LP, Vinyl record album

Georgie Auld

Homage
Xanadu, 1959/1982. Near Mint-
This was originally recorded in 1959 and it was meant to be a homage to Benny Goodman and the guitarist who played with Goodman back then, Charlie Christian. Auld was asked to join the Goodman band back in 1940 where he worked closely with Christian. Auld plays tenor sax and is joined by Don ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warne Marsh

Live In Hollywood
Xanadu, 1951. Near Mint-
70s issue of a great little live set – recorded in LA in 1951, one of those private recordings from the time that saw brief release on the Xanadu label. Tracks are long, and Warne's playing in a much more open-ended mode with a quartet that features Hampton Hawes, Joe Mondragon, and Shelly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Billy Taylor

One For Fun
Atlantic, 1959. Near Mint-
It might not be the frolic that the title implies, but that's a plus – because this a straight-up solid early album from Taylor – recorded in tight trio format, with that no-nonsense soulful approach that made him a star player from the start! The group features the great (and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sam Taylor

Love You Tokyo
Crown (Japan), 1967. Very Good- Gatefold
A cool Japanese-only album – the tenor of Sam The Man Taylor amidst larger backings from Jinzo Kosugi, on tunes that include "Hakodate No Hito", "Koi", "Yanasage Blues", "Casbah No Onna", "Hokkaido Skies", and "Love You Tokyo". LP, Vinyl record album
