LP (Item 12554) Epic, 1980 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

LP

One of Mtume's sweet mellow soul records for Epic from the early 80's. Like Norman Connors, another soul jazz drummer who decided to go for a smooth soul approach, Mtume has a nice laidback feel on here, with good jazzy production backing up a number of vocal tracks aimed at the modern soul crowd. Hubert Eaves plays some nice mellow keyboards, and Tawatha joins Mtume on vocals. Cuts include "We're Gonna Make It This Time", "So You Wanna Be A Star", "Anticipatin", "Everything Good To Me", and "You Can't Wait For Love". (Includes the printed inner sleeve.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Epic, 1984. Very Good Gatefold
Michael Jackson's last album with his famous family – a set of electric 80s soul that's a bit different than Jackson's well-known solo work! In a way, the later Jacksons albums almost feel like a place where Michael can try out some ideas that don't fit as tightly into the overall sound of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Maybe our favorite-ever album from Minnie Riperton during the 70s – a sweet, smooth jazzy gem that really makes some of the best use of her vocals! Epic, 1978. Very Good-
One of the funkiest sets ever from Mother's Finest, and maybe our favorite album from the group's late 70s run on Epic Records! Epic, Late 60s. Very Good
Vivian Reed was an obscure soul singer who cut a few equally obscure albums for Epic, of which this is the first. Yesterday's Dreams
Epic, 1976. Very Good
A killer all-star session of funky fusion tracks – with a nice tight sound produced by Skip Drinkwater! Swing Your Daddy
Roxbury, 1975. Very Good
A classic around these parts – mostly for the jazzy swing-beat of the title cut, which is a favorite among Chicago steppers. "Swing Your Daddy" is laid out in a long two part version – but there's also a lot of other nice cuts on the album, with a sound that's more in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Locked In This Position
Curtom, 1977. Very Good
Curtom's definitely fishing for a new sound by this point – and they've gone and pulled in outside help from the east coast, teaming the talents of Philly groove maestro Bunny Sigler with Barbara Mason, who was emerging as a club diva at the time. Every track is uptempo and club-oriented, ... LP, Vinyl record album
