Open Up Your Love

LP (Item 12539) Soul Train, 1977 — Condition: Very Good+
The Whispers are really riding high on the Soul Train here – perfectly set up with production help from the team of Don Cornelius and Dick Griffey – who really help the group make the best of their harmonies, both on mellow cuts and upbeat groovers! The latter cuts are what The Whispers are sometimes remembered most for at this time in their career – but we really love the more laidback cuts too – as they seem to have an even more magical approach, with this floating style that really does wonders for the vocals. Titles include "Open Up Your Love", "You Are Number One", "I'm Gonna Make You My Wife", "Love Is A Dream", "I Fell In Love Last Night", and "Chocolate Girl".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear, but looks great overall.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Whispers

Life & Breath
Janus, 1972. Very Good+
One of their best LPs from the early 70's, back when they were less uptempo, and still focusing on good group harmony cuts that had more of a traditional mix of ballads and midtempo tracks. The LP includes a nice moody cover of "Speak Softly Love", plus "Here Comes Tomorrow", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funkadelic

Funkadelic
Westbound, 1970. Very Good+
One of the darkest records to ever come out of the Detroit soul scene! As you might guess from the title, the album is Funkadelic's first – and it's a swirling mass of psychedelic guitars, echoey drums, and bass-heavy riffing, all topped off by the band's harmony vocals, which sound like a ... Stax/Volt, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
A fantastic album by The Dramatics – with a harder funkier sound than you'll find on most of their other records of the time – a gritty gem from the group's early years, and a record that really deserves its placement on the Stax label! The record has the group moving into a post-Tempta ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hardcore Jollies
Warner, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the sweetest Funkadelic albums from the middle period, and a good batch of tracks that often gets overlooked in the haze of similar Pedro Bell covers! Love Unlimited

In Heat
20th Century, 1974. Very Good
Classic 70s female soul – and one of the best albums ever recorded by Love Unlimited – a trio of ladies recording with Barry White during his glory years! A classic! What seemed a silly idea at the time was true proof of Ray's genius, and the result was the most successful album of his career – and a bona-fide number one hit that rode the charts for years and years! Kinsman Dazz

Kinsman Dazz
20th Century, 1978. Very Good
A killer debut from the Dazz Band – issued way back when they were named Kinsman Dazz, and when "dazz" was a reference to the fact that the group could play both dance music and jazz! That jazzy element is definitely in place here – as the set's got lots of hip instrumental ... LP, Vinyl record album

Womack & Womack

Radio MUSC Man
Elektra, 1985. Very Good
Sweet electric funk from Womack and Womack – a set that's got the same sort of tight songwriting as their classic Love Wars set from the 80s, but a groove that's maybe even heavier on the beats and keyboards too! The style's still nice and warm, in all the right ways to work with the duo's ... LP, Vinyl record album
