Brasil Dia E Noite

LP (Item 12226) Odeon (Brazil), Early 60s — Condition: Very Good+
A classic set of orchestral arrangements from one of Brazil's greatest leaders ever – the mighty Luiz Arruda Paes, the man who provided musical backings for more albums than we can count! This album's a set of instrumental tunes by Luiz – big band takes on Brazilian standards and samba tunes, done with a magically lively sound! The album blends together horns, voices, and some skittish percussion that makes for more of a driving feel than you'd expect for the record – and titles include "Copacabana", "Aquarela Do Brasil", "Tico Tico No Fuba", "A Voz Do Morro", "Risque", "Carinhoso", and the groovy "Samba Fantastico".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Great stuff from Walter Wanderley – and a refreshing change from his work on Verve! One of Maria Bethania's first albums, and a beautiful set of live recordings – with a vibe that's a lot more uptempo and swinging than some of her later work! One of our favorite albums by Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – a perfect bridge between the simple pop of earlier records, and the group's expanding sound as the 70s approached!
