Two Tons O' Fun

LP (Item 12163) Fantasy/Honey, 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-

Classic groovers with a solid 80s groove – cut by Martha Wash and Izora Armstead before they went on to become The Weather Girls, and before they got a bit too campy for our tastes! Harvey Fuqua's producing, and the tracks include "Do You Wanna Boogie, Huh?", "Just Us", "Got The Feeling", "Taking Away Your Space", and "One-Sided Love Affair".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear and some aging.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fat Larry's Band

Stand Up
Fantasy, 1980. Very Good+
Smooth funky soul, with a nice mid-tempo club groove to it. Lots of popping basslines and rolling instrumental lines, with cheery vocals by Larry and the band. James and Butch Ingram wrote a lot of tracks, and pitched in instrumentally, and the album includes the cuts "Party After ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sylvester

Sell My Soul
Honey/Fantasy, 1980. Very Good
An overlooked gem from Sylvester's years on Fantasy Records – a set that has him working strongly with soul maestro Harvey Fuqua, in a really great blend of disco and more laidback modes! There's a balance here that's like early Luther at his best – a way of being proudly poised, yet ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blackbyrds

Unfinished Business
Fantasy, 1976. Very Good+ Gatefold
There's nothing unfinished about this business – as The Blackbyrds are at the top of their game here – working in a sweet blend of jazz, funk, and soul – all produced to perfection by their mentor Donald Byrd! The groove is quite similar to some of Byrd's best from the time ... LP, Vinyl record album

Betty Everett

Happy Endings
Fantasy, 1975. Near Mint-
Great stuff by Betty – and light years away from her work at Vee Jay! The album was recorded for Fantasy during their golden year of 1975, and it's a smooth batch of sexy soul tunes with arrangements by Gene Page that are very much in a Barry White mid-70s mode. Betty's lyrical stylings are ... LP, Vinyl record album
Volt, 1964. Very Good+
An album with a very fitting title – as the whole set is practically a dictionary of soul music, for anyone who needs an understanding of the genre! The cover alone tells you that the set is something special – and the sounds within are even better – classic Otis Redding on Stax ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Dunlap

Party In Me
Capitol, 1981. Near Mint-
Wonderful work from Gene Dunlap – a jazzy soul drummer, and also a maestro with a killer ear for a modern soul groove! The album's got a mix of grooves and sophistication that are a bit like the best early 80s material from Roy Ayers – never chartbound, and never too commercial – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan
Warner, 1982. Near Mint-
Great stuff – and one of the gems that Arif Mardin produced for Chaka during her immediate solo years after leaving Rufus. Mardin's sweet soulful arrangements are a perfect fit for Chaka's voice – not only on soul tracks like "Tearin' It Up", "Got To Be There", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mtume

You, Me & He
Epic, 1984. Near Mint-
Proof that the move to soul was actually a great thing for James Mtume – because although the set's miles from his spiritual jazz work of the 70s, it more than makes up for that shift with a sophisticated approach to 80s soul! The group's a small one, with lots of keyboards from Mtume, and a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hi Records, 1971. Near Mint-
A great litle early album from Ann Peebles – rawer than most of her more familiar stuff, with a gutbuckety soul quality that really keeps things fresh! Rufus featuring Chaka Khan

Rags To Rufus
ABC, 1974. Near Mint-
One of those records that everyone seemed to own, back in the day – and for good reason, too – as Rufus and Chaka have a way of opening ears of folks who dig so many different styles – from soul to rock to funk and jazz – but all with a groove that's totally their own! The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Charles

Great Ray Charles
Atlantic, Late 50s. Near Mint-
More of a jazz album than the early vocal singles of Ray Charles – but a set that definitely is as great as promised by the title!
