Versatones

LP (Item 12097) RCA, 1957 — Condition: Very Good-

A great mix of R&B and more mainstream-styled harmony vocals – served up in a way that's quite unusual for the time! The Versatones are certainly "versa toned" here – and they work in a mix of rockish and more pop-ranged material that might be the sort that you'd expect from more singles-oriented acts of the period – and the group's a trio of vocalists led by John Greenwood, with Ronald Champan and Herbert Stubbs (any relation to Levi?) Titles include "Rock & Roll My Blues Away", "Don't Darling Don't", "Ninety Nine Percent Won't Do", "Bikini Baby", and "Lovely Teenage Girl".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has a split top seam held with some tape, half split spine, split bottom seam, and discoloration from age.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Memphis Horns

Welcome To Memphis
RCA, 1979. Very Good+
One of the more amazing things about 70s soul was how many "behind the scenes" forces were able to come to the forefront, and emerge as strong artists in their own right. Case in point is the Memphis Horns, who by this point in their career were a pretty well developed soul act – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

10 To 23
RCA, 1969. Very Good+
A groovy record from Jose – with his best kind of crossover feel! It's an unusual title – one that refers to the first track on the record, recorded by Jose Feliciano at age 10 – and the rest of the material included, done when Jose was 23 years old. It's a mixture of American ... LP, Vinyl record album

Friends Of Distinction

Friends & People
RCA, 1971. Near Mint-
One of the stranger albums by the Friends of Distinction – with some super-baroque arrangements by Jerry Peters that seem to be trying to push the group past the bouncy formula of their earlier hits.
