Composer Of Desafinado Plays

LP (Item 11979) Verve, 1963 — Condition: Very Good+

Antonio Carlos Jobim's classic Verve session from 1963 – a tremendous record, done with a wonderful airy sound that became the trademark for bossa production in America – and which also had a great inspiration on the sound of mid 60s bossa in Brazil! Claus Ogerman arranged and conducts the orchestra, and Jobim plays guitar and piano – with a core group that also features Jimmy Cleveland on trombone and Leo Wright on flute, both American jazz players who help add some further complexities to the sound. Tracks include "Jazz Samba", "Favela", "O Morro", "Aqua De Beber", "Girl From Ipanema", and "Chega De Saudade".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mexican pressing.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Astrud Gilberto Album
Verve, 1965. Very Good
One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums of the 60s – a classic session produced for Verve by Creed Taylor, and featuring sweet gentle arrangements from Marty Paich, co-arranged with Antonio Carlos Jobim, who also plays guitar on the session next to the piano of Joao Donato! One of the earliest of the classic Verve bossa nova sessions of the 60s – and a wonderful showcase for the talents of guitarist Luiz Bonfa! Verve, 1969. Near Mint-
One of the grooviest records ever from the lovely Astrud Gilberto – a session that beautifully mixes her usual bossa nova with bits of Sunshine Pop and other hip late 60s grooves – all in a mode that really takes off a lot more than other Gilberto albums on Verve! The style here is ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, 1970. Very Good+
One of the darkest albums ever recorded by Astrud Gilberto – her 60s last session for Verve Records, and a batch of beautifully moody tunes throughout! Luiz Bonfa

Luiz Bonfa
Dot, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
A pretty great little album from Bonfa – always one of the more corruptible bossa players, working here in a groovy set of pop arrangements by Deodato with a lively American twist! Some tunes are fast-driving bossa numbers with good jazz accompaniment, others have backing vocals in a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Dot, Mid 60s. Sealed
Very easy-oriented material from Bonfa – with a mixture of arrangements by Deodato and Nick Perito. Perito's arrangements are actually the best here, as they have kind of a groovy 60s sound that works better with the material than Deodato's – which tend to be a bit too easy. Titles ...
