Meet The Exportations

LP (Item 11748) United Artists, 1978 — Condition: Very Good-
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

❔

The Exportations seem to have only popped up for this one album, but they've got a solid harmony soul sound that's right up there with the best groups of the 70s – and which in fact feels a lot more like indie work from the early part of the decade than you'd guess from their placement on United Artists, and the 1978 date of this LP. They appear to be a Detroit group, and they've got a great talent for mixing the rough and the smooth – in the manner of The Dramatics best work of the time. Titles include "Main Ingredient", "You've Been A Long Time Coming", "Kiss Me Love", "Strange Sensations", and "Music". Great harmony soul – and a record you'll treasure as much as any indie session of its type!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear and a cut corner.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Soaring grooves and mellow moments – a perfect blend of 70s soul styles, summed up here beautifully by Enchantment! Noel Pointer

Hold On
United Artists, 1976. Near Mint-
Early work from Noel Pointer – recorded in a smooth, soulful mode with plenty of help on arrangements and production from Dave Grusin! Communication
United Artists, 1971. Very Good- Gatefold
One of the all-time great ones from Bobby Womack – and a set that definitely helped push the singer into the mainstream of soul in the 70s! United Artists, 1978. Near Mint-
War did the music for this funky soundtrack to an early Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs film, and although most of the stuff on here is just typical War stuff, there's one track called "Flying Machine" that's a long funky chase scene-type track that's worth the price of the album alone! Sweet Inspirations

Sweet Sweet Soul
Atlantic, 1970. Very Good
The Sweet Sweet Sweet Inspirations get the Gamble Huff treatment – and as it worked with Archie Bell, so it works with these guys – really well! ABC, 1973. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A double album recorded for ABC after Charles left Warner Brothers and the 103rd Street Rhythm Band behind – but still very much an extension of that group's later stretched-out funky records! Nice long cuts with grooves that are a little bit more jazzy than his earlier 60's stuff. Tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album
