A very cool early Randy Brecker album – recorded years before he was working in tighter, R&B-inflected styles – and was instead an up-and-coming player with a surprisingly sharp edge! The set's produced by Duke Pearson, and has a groovy sound that's similar to Blue Note dates of the late 60s – jazz at the core, but a willingness to bring in some other pre-fusion elements – most notably the electric piano of Hal Galper, which sounds great next to drums from Bernard Purdie and bass from Eddie Gomez! Brother Michael plays tenor, and Galper wrote a lot of the tracks – with that good groovy electric funk sound that he did so well at this time.
