Space Dance

LP (Item 11541) Motown, 1978 — Condition: Very Good-
Sort of a disco effort from Motown, featuring a group led by keyboardist Michael L. Smith, and featuring David T. Walker, Sonny Burke, James Gadson, Lee Ritenour, and Roland Bautista. The tracks are long dancefloor cuts, with a bit of a space disco sound, and titles like "Space Dance", "Groove Time", "You Don't Like To Party (Like I Do)", and "Rich Love, Poor Love".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Vinyl has oxidation and plays with some surface noise. Cover has a cutout notch.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Quite possibly the best album ever from Ohio funky soul combo Switch – and certainly proof that the hope of Motown in the 80s was in ensemble group funk! Motown, 1969. Very Good+
A real change for Chuck Jackson! This album is the singer's first on Motown – and it's a striking departure from his earlier work on the Wand label, which was often done in a classier, more polished soul style that was more in keeping with the uptown mode of Wand's New York production. Temptations

Song For You
Motown, 1975. Near Mint-

Mandre

M3000
Motown, 1979. Very Good+
3rd album of futuristic soul from Mandre, with a bit less of the Dexter Wansel influenced sound we love so much about the first album, and more of the bass heavy sound that would predominate in the 80s, as well as a good bit of synthesized sounds and slick production flourishes, even a bit of ... Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Near Mint- Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... Ted Taylor

Taylor Made
Ronn, Early 70s. Near Mint-
An obscure one from Ted Taylor – a lot blusier than some of his earlier soul work from the 60s, but with some great funky touches that really make the record great!
