❔

Sweet modern soul with a sound that would get picked up on years later by the LA G-Funk scene. The album's produced by War's Far Out production team – and it's got a smooth sound that's mixed with moogy keyboards and compressed instrumentation on the best cuts. Some tracks are a bit too funky, but the mellow ones are very tasty. Includes the excellent track "Summer Love", plus "Cream City", "Magic Night", "Lonely Princess", and "Jungle Desire".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(White label promo. Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout corner and a promo sticker on back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gil Scott-Heron

Mind Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1978. Very Good-
A great little live album – one that's quite different than Gil Scott-Heron's double-length set for Arista – and a set that serves as a key bridge between his early protest work and his emerging vocal sensibility! The set features a fair bit of longer spoken passages – but unlike ... LP, Vinyl record album

Harvey Mason

Marching In The Street
Arista, 1975. Very Good
Easily the greatest album ever by funky drummer Harvey Mason – and quite possibly the only one to live up to the rhythmic complexity that Mason brought to countless other fusion sessions for other groups in the 70s! The tracks are all spacious and snapping with brilliantly funky touches ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ray Parker Jr

Woman Out Of Control
Arista, 1983. Near Mint-
Plenty of control here – as Ray Parker's at the height of his 80s hitmaking power, scoring strongly on one of his key classics from the decade for Arista! The tunes have a bit more of that catchy, rhythm-heavy sound that Parker was forging at the start of the decade – a quality that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Arista, 1981. Very Good
Wonderfully solid grooving from GQ – an album issued a few years after their bigger hits, but still plenty great overall! The trio have a great way of laying out a sweet harmony without getting too cloying, nor too poppy – and the best cuts here glide along beautifully in a mellow or ... LP, Vinyl record album
Arista, 1980. Near Mint-
A wonderfully well-rounded set from superstar arranger Gene Page – quite possibly his most fully-formed album as a lead act on his own! The set's got some great standout groovers – the kind of club cuts that have the vibe that Gene was doing well for so many others – and it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Page

Close Encounters
Arista, 1977. Near Mint-
A cool collection of space-themed club tracks from Gene Page – and possibly one of his greatest albums of the 70s – dispite a gimmicky approach! There's a tightly soaring feel to most of the cuts that's Page at his best – arranging fully with styles borrowed from Barry White, but ... LP, Vinyl record album

Everybody Up
Arista, 1979. Near Mint- Gatefold
Still very much in the best mode as the rest of their 70s classics for Mercury Records – a sweet mix of ensemble funk with some upbeat styles that were perfect for the clubs! The group's shifted a bit by the time of this one and only album for Arista, but they've still got most of their best ... LP, Vinyl record album

Greatest – Original Soundtrack
Arista, 1977. Very Good
A great little album, put together to accompany one of Muhammad Ali's finest moments on the big screen – in a blend of music that's way deeper than the usual sounds you'd hear ringside! Michael Masser helmed the set – produced and wrote most of the material – but also with key ... LP, Vinyl record album
Stax, 1966. Very Good+
A great Memphis sound from the second greatest instrumental group on Stax next to Booker T & The MGs – heard here on a massive record that really pushes The Mar-Keys to the next level!
