Galaxy – Music From 16 Great Artists

LP (Item 114903) Mercury, Early 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

With selections by Brook Benton, Xavier Cugat, The Platters, David Carroll, Damita Jo, Clebanoff Singers, Dinah Washington, Quincy Jones, Billy Eckstine, Jose Melis, Eddy Howard, Jan August, George Jones, Griff Williams, Eddie Heywood, and Dick Contino.  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Black label pressing with deep groove.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Les Baxter

Sounds Of Adventure
Capitol, Mid 60s. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A 2LP set, released in the mid 60's as a "Capitol Record Club Exclusive" – and one that compiles some of Baxter's best work for the label. The inside of the cover has some good notes on Baxter's career, and the record contains many nice moments like "Dancing Diamonds", ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Early 50s. Near Mint-
The notes say that the album is "the rare plum of authenticity". We don't know if we'd go that far, but we can tell you that the record features Yma performing songs of the legendary Jivaro headhunters! Supposedly, Yma learned them in her "South American jungle-home", but we ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yma Sumac

Mambo!
Capitol, 1954. Near Mint-
Quite possibly our favorite album ever by the enigmatic Yma Sumac – thanks to some lively arrangements by Billy May, who gives the set a swinging jazzy groove! As you might guess from the cover, the style here is more in a Latin jazz mode than some of Yma's other more ethereal work – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Burt Bacharach

Reach Out
A&M, 1967. Near Mint-
Fantastic! We love Burt Bacharach in so many ways that it's easy to forget the genius of these early A&M sides – but going back to them is always a treat, and it's wonderful to hear the way that Burt lays down his own work when given the chance! You know the tracks – "House ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the funkiest albums ever from Henry Mancini – a brilliant reworking of hit 70s cop show themes, put together with a really jazzy groove! A nice little album from Johnny Hartman – recorded back in the mid 50s for Bethlehem, in the years before he recorded his more famous dates for the Impulse label!
