Blame It On The Blues

LP (Item 11338) Milestone, Mid 1920s — Condition: Very Good+
Milestone reissue of classic early blues sides by Ma Rainey, including "Chain Gang Blues", "Deep Moanin' Blues", "Tough Luck Blues", "Moonshine Blues", and "Dead Drunk Blues". There's a dozen cuts in all, with great notes, and the material has not been treated to resemble stereo in any way.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Late 60s mono blue label pressing. Cover has light ringwear, some edge wear, worn spots at the spine, and an application wrinkle in back.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Early recordings by John Lee Hooker and his Coast To Coast Blues Band – recorded in Detroit in the late 40s through the early 50s. Albert King

King Albert
Tomato, 1977. Very Good+
A tight date from 1977, and one that follows nicely in the spirit of King's later Stax sides, but with a slightly smoother groove. There's a bit of the Detroit 70s mode going on in the set – that rough-and-smooth quality that you'd find on a Don Davis production, which proves to be a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Philadelphia International, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold
A pivotal album from The O'Jays – and an undeniable Philly classic! Winner In You
MCA, 1986. Very Good+
A bit one for Patti Labelle in the 80s – a set that crossed over big at the time, but which still has the lady in very soulful territory! Fantastic early work from The Dramatics – an amazing blend of sweet soul harmony vocals, Memphis soul production, and some other-worldly songwriting that far surpasses later work of the group.
