Passport Live

CD (Item 113088) Wounded Bird, 2008 — Condition: Used
$9.99 ...

CD

Later than classic vintage for the Passport group, but still very much in the best spirit of their classics – far-reaching fusion, all headed by creative reedmaster Klaus Doldinger! The set's got a relatively spacious feel – lots of long tracks, with plenty of soloing by the group members – a bit less hard-jamming than in the 70s, which is an aspect that we really like a lot. As usual, Klaus is constantly compelling on reeds – never playing in the smooth or easy styles you might expect from a world-class fusion ensemble, and always managing to bring in some interesting elements to his work on flute, soprano, and tenor sax. Other instrumentation includes guitar, keyboards, bass, and lots of percussion – and titles include "Jungle Song", "Happy Landing", "Green Lagoon", "Blue Kind Of Mind", "Tatort", "Fifty Years Later", "Escape", and "Lucky Loser".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Used CD Grade

We use the all-encompassing grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or packaging details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the CD. This might include, but isn't limited to, scratches, tracks that skip, case/insert damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Chico Freeman

Tangents
Elektra/Wounded Bird, 1984. Used
Surprisingly dark music for a mid 80s major label jazz album – especially one that features guest work from Bobby McFerrin! Chico Freeman's definitely keeping true to his adventurous roots here – blowing some sharply angular lines on a range of reeds, and exploring both older jazz ... CD

Robin Kenyatta

Stompin' At The Savoy
Atlantic/Wounded Bird, 1974. Used
A great blend of older jazz styles and the sweet 70s funk of Robin Kenyatta – served up with a hip sort of sparkle overall! There's a few familiar jazz modes in here that definitely live up to the spirit of the title – but most of the record is more open, laidback, and somewhat ... CD
Columbia/Wounded Bird, 1974. Used
A lost fusion classic from the early 70s – one of the only records cut under the leadership of drummer Horacee Arnold, but a heck of a great little set with a soaringly righteous sound! The style here is plenty full-on, but a bit less rock-leaning than some of the other Columbia fusion of ... CD

Compost

Life Is Round
Columbia/Wounded Bird, 1973. Used
A classic set of spiritual fusion from this short-lived allstar group Compost – featuring Harold Vick, Bob Moses, Jumma Santos, and Jack DeJohnette! Vick's at his moody soulful best here, in a mode that's similar to his Strata East work – and the record also features occasional vocals ... CD

Donald Byrd & 125th Street, NYC

Love Byrd
Elektra/Wounded Bird, 1981. Used
A sweet funky 80s set from trumpeter Donald Byrd – a record done after his 70s run at Blue Note with producer Larry Mizell, but in a groove that's equally great in its own sort of way! Isaac Hayes is the producer on the set, and also plays a lot of Fender Rhodes, plus piano, vibes, and ... CD

Compost

Compost
Columbia/Wounded Bird, 1972. Used
Rare funky fusion from Compost! This excellent session by the short-lived group is also definitely up there on the list of stellar fusiony sets that have been too long overlooked. Many of the tracks have a nice hard angular sound to them, with a fusion break sound similar to some of the European ... CD

Deodato

Love Island
Warner/Wounded Bird, 1978. Used
Late 70s work from Deodato – quite different than his bossa organ work of the 60s, and early 70s funk sides – but pretty darn great nonetheless! The album shows Deodato's continuing shift towards a more soul-based sound – and it mixes together a smoother club sound with jazzier ... CD

Red Rodney & Ira Sullivan

Spirit Within
Elektra/Wounded Bird, 1982. Used
Really beautiful work from the team of Red Rodney and Ira Sullivan – hardly the sort of stuff we might have heard from the players a decade or two before – and a sophisticated batch of tunes that has them stretching out in rich musical directions! There's little of the boppish roots of ... CD

Freddie Hubbard

Love Connection
Columbia/Wounded Bird, 1979. Used
A lost treasure from the overlooked late 70s jazz years at Columbia! The album's got Freddie Hubbard working with arranger Claus Ogerman on some expansive tracks that go beyond his earlier work in the decade – sometimes blowing mellow notes over larger orchestrations, other times working in ... CD
