Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Tribalistas (Arnaldo Antunes, Carlinhos Brown, & Marisa Monte)

Tribalistas
EMI, 2002. Used
A groundbreaking collaboration from the start of the century – the union of three of Brazil's most important artists of the decade before – coming together in a mode that's even deeper than any of their previous albums as solo acts! There's clearly a Tropicalia inspiration taking place ... CD
EMI (Brazil), 2006. Used
A real departure for Marisa Monte – an album of samba tunes done in mostly traditional modes! The style here is often simple and classic – bits of guitar, percussion, cavaquinho, and slight use of keyboards to warm things up a bit – but mostly in a way that allows for the ... CD
EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1969/1970. Used
Compelling work from Taiguara – a romantic singer, but one with a real edge! At first listen, Hoje seems to be sweet pop – but as it progresses, there's some great elements that really open up the sound and take it into the world of the baroque. One of these is the group Quarteto ... CD

Joyce

Ao Vivo
SBK/EMI (Brazil), 1989. Used
Pretty groovy recent live album, recorded with the participation of Chico Buraque and Boca Livre. Joyce runs through a nice mix of breezy bossa titles and some of her better and lesser-known tracks – and the overall sound is better than most of the recent Joyce albums on major labels, as it ... CD

Angelo Noce Santoro

For You
ANS/Pharaway Sounds (Spain), 1979. Used
Beautiful Latin-styled jazz – not really New York or Cuban, but also not Brazilian either – and instead this really wonderful hybrid of sounds that's cooked up by guitarist Angelo Noce Santoro – a player with roots in psych and prog! This album's not any of that, though – ... CD

Moacir Santos

Carnival Of The Spirits
Blue Note (Japan), 1975. Used
A sublime 70s session from Moacir Santos – a set that mixes the complex grooves he forged in 60s Brazil with the warmly jazzy sound of American fusion – all in a result that's totally unique! The album's quite different than any other electric Brazilian sets recorded in the US at the ... CD

Caetano Veloso

Cinema Transcendental
Polydor (Brazil), 1979. Used
Caetano Veloso at the end of the 70s – still sounding wonderful, but in ways that are quite different from his earliest albums! The sound here is more restrained, and more mature – a beautiful example of the songwriting strength that Veloso evolved as his career moved on – tunes ... CD
Atlantic/Mr Bongo (UK), 1977. Used
An incredible little record – and the set where it really all comes together for this legendary funky jazz group! Azymuth were already great on their debut, although maybe a little experimental at times – but here, they really find the soulful groove that later got them big fame on the ... CD

Ana Caram

Sunflower Time
Universal (Brazil), 1996. Used
A great introduction to the music of Ana Caram – an early session recorded both in London and Brazil – with all the great mix of modes that might imply! The album's breathy and bossa in some spots, but full and jazzy in others – and Ana's equally at home in both settings! Some ... CD

Secos & Molhados

Secos e Molhados (1973/1974)
Warner (Brazil), 1973/1974. Used
Essential Brazilian rock from the 70s! Secos e Molhados were a post-Tropicalia group that drew on some of the work of Brazilian groups before them, and mixed it up with hard rock and glam styles that were coming from America and the UK. The leader of the group was singer Ney Matogrosso, who went ... CD

Antonio Carlos Jobim

Wave
CTI/A&M, 1967. Used
A stunning mix of talents that brings the heavenly piano and guitar of Antonio Carlos Jobim into play with the lush, but light arrangements of Claus Ogerman – a swirling mix of post-bossa loveliness that redefines Jobim's sound, and opens up new avenues for exploration in sound! The ... CD
