Is This Whatcha Wont?

LP (Item 11036) 20th Century, 1976 — Condition: Very Good+

Kind of a confrontational title, but still an excellent batch of grooves from The Maestro, with heavenly production, and lots of long drawn-out sexy grooves. Cuts include "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long", "I'm Qualified To Satisfy You", "Your Love – So Good I Can't Take It", and "I Wanna Lay Down With You Baby".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One thing about The Dells: They were always great! Even here, at the end of the 70s, in settings that are less perfect than their classic work for Cadet or Vee Jay, the group still sound wonderful – more daring vocally than most other harmony groups at the time, cutting through some smoother ... Stephanie Mills

Sweet Sensation
20th Century, 1980. Near Mint-
Stephanie Mills in fine formation here – working with the team of James Mtume and Reggie Lucas, who helped the lady reach the heights of her career in the early 80s! The sound here is catchy and contemporary, but hardly ever too commercial – just relaxed and grooving, in a mode that ... LP, Vinyl record album

An obscure set, but a great one – and with a sound that's way deeper than you might expect! Gene Chandler

'80
Chi Sound/20th Century, 1980. Very Good
A nice record of modern soul that got a bit overlooked at the time because of the poor fate of the Chi-Sound label. The record's filled with Chicago soul talent like Tom Tom 84, Sonny Sanders, and Carl Davis, and it's a good updating of Gene's Chicago soul sound towards a style that's more modern ... Soaring soul from Stephanie Mills – one of the lady's all-time hits, and for good reason too! Clean
20th Century, 1978. Sealed
A solid entry from Edwin Starr's late 70s comeback into the clubs – a set that's miles from his harder soul for Motown, but which still has some pretty great vocals overall! Edwin's working here with Lamont Dozier, who helps bring his Detroit groove into smoother California territory – ... LP, Vinyl record album
