Elaine Brown with Horace Tapscott — Seize The Time (purple vinyl pressing) ... LP 34.99
A righteous treasure from the end of the 60s – an album of vocal tracks recorded by the Minister Of Information for the Black Panther Party, set to backings from the legendary jazz visionary Horace Tapscott! Elaine Brown's less of a soul singer than a powerful speaker who delivers the lyrics with an almost folksy quality – singing boldly and with a sense of power that matches Tapscott's great orchestrations for the record – done in a style that's a fair bit like his Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra work for Nimbus Records, but a bit more inside – given the vocal setting of the record. Titles include "The Meeting", "The Panther", "Assassination", and "Very Black Man".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing. Cover has ringwear, heavy edge wear, and bent sides and corners.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Round 2 (no fists)
Avco, 1972. Near Mint-
Landmark harmony soul from The Stylistics – a set that's every bit as wonderful as their debut, with the kind of sweet, soulful sound that got played over and over and over and over again back in the day! Blue Magic

Magic Of The Blue
Atco, 1974. Very Good+
Was there ever a better harmony soul group than Blue Magic? Hearing a record like this, it's hard to think so – and the album's pure east coast magic all the way through! The group still manage to keep the fragile quality that made their first work so great, but they've also got a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grady Tate

Master Grady Tate
ABC, 1977. Near Mint-
Later work by Grady Tate – not as solid as his Skye albums, mostly because he seems a bit confused about which way to go with his style, going for more of an expanded soul sound than the moodier jazz one he used on earlier work. Harold Wheeler did the arrangements – and the record ... LP, Vinyl record album
