Sly & The Family Stone Greatest Hits

LP (Item 10955) Epic, 1970 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold
Almost a "greatest hits" of greatest hits albums – one of those collections that almost sold more copies than all the full albums by the artist – forever earning Sly & The Family Stone a place in record collections around the globe! All the hits are here, laid out back to back in all their righteous goodness – never a single spot of filler, and all-classics, all the way through! Titles include "Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin", "Life", "Everyday People", "I Want To Take You Higher", "Everybody Is A Star", "Dance To The Music", "Hot Fun In The Summertime", and "Sing A Simple Song". All funky – all classic!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original yellow label pressing. Cover has some light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Luther Vandross

Never Too Much
Epic, 1981. Very Good+
You can never get too much Luther Vandross! Never Too Much is his debut album for Epic, and even here in the early 80s, a time when things were getting a little too glossy in a lot of the major label soul sessions, Luther skips it nice and truly soulful here, and managed to ride that realness to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Jackson

Thriller
Epic, 1982. Near Mint- Gatefold
Arguably the last true moment of genius in Michael Jackson's career – a record that sold a bazillion copies around the world – and for plenty good reason! Michael's still working here with Quincy Jones – in territory that steps nicely from the Off The Wall groove, into territory ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jacksons

Victory
Epic, 1984. Near Mint- Gatefold
Michael Jackson's last album with his famous family – a set of electric 80s soul that's a bit different than Jackson's well-known solo work! In a way, the later Jacksons albums almost feel like a place where Michael can try out some ideas that don't fit as tightly into the overall sound of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Jackson

Bad
Epic, 1987. Near Mint- Gatefold
The third great album in the trilogy that includes Off The Wall and Thriller – and a set that still has Michael Jackson running strong at the height of his solo powers! Quincy Jones is still at the helm, and Michael more than proves that he can still come up with a pop tune without going too ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nona Hendryx

Nona Hendryx
Epic, 1977. Very Good+
Post-Labelle solo work from Nona Hendryx – and a set that very much shows that she's the one who brought all the raw funky power to the group! Unlike Patti Labelle's work from the same time, which was getting smoother and classier, Nona's work here is almost in the vein of rock music – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Staple Singers

Pray On
Epic, Mid 60s. Very Good
Rootsy material recorded for Epic in the 60s, before the group went over to Stax and started cutting secular soul! These sides are much more in a traditional gospel quartet mode – but the group's powerful vocals and strongly soulful approach makes the tracks rock with the strength of some of ... Teena Marie

Starchild
Epic, 1984. Near Mint-
A stunning solo effort – Teena's second on Epic, and proof that she could still put out the goods on her own! Don't worry about the absence of Rick James here – as things are mighty tight, and right on the money – that wicked blend of funk and soul that got Lady T a great start ... LP, Vinyl record album
Epic, 1976. Very Good+
A killer album of crossover soul from the mid 70s – one that dropped like a bomb when it hit, and gave this UK group a number of big hits in America! Keyboardist Rod Temperton wrote all the tracks on the album – and he's got keen talent for both funky numbers and ballads. If soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Okeh/Epic, Mid 50s/1982. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Essential 2LP set of rare R&B material from the legendary Okeh label – known to many as one of the 50's best labels for the genre! Sure, you'll find a few hits on here – like Screamin Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On Your" – but the real nice bits are the obscurer ... LP, Vinyl record album

Roy Ayers

Fever
Polydor, 1979. Very Good
A great little album by Roy Ayers – one that features none of his hits, which means lots of fresh material – and which has great examples of both sides of Roy's talents at the time! The dancefloor side of Roy kicks in with "Love Will Bring Us Back Together", an extremely ... LP, Vinyl record album

Don Covay & The Jefferson Lemon Blues Band

Different Strokes For Different Folks
Chess/Janus, 1970. Sealed Gatefold
A real lost chapter in the career of the great Don Covay – material done after his original funky soul on 60s Atlantic Records, and before his return to fame in the early 70s on Mercury – done in a raw vibe that has a lot more grit than you might expect! There's touches of psychedelic ... LP, Vinyl record album
