Viva Durango

LP (Item 108227) Epsilon, 1977 — Condition: Very Good
(Cover has some minor stains at the opening.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ray Barretto

Eye Of The Beholder
Atlantic/Fania, 1977. Very Good
A really wonderful album from Ray Barretto – more jazz fusion than his usual 70s salsa – but in a way that we really really love! The album's a crossover gem that has Ray working with Stix Hooper, Joe Sample, and Wilton Felder of The Crusaders – a trio who produced the record, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Alegre, Early 60s. Very Good-
A landmark album, and the first-ever record on the young Alegre label – a sure-fire hit that put both the company and Pacheco firmly on the map! International, 1977. Very Good
The 9th album that Roena cut with his Apollo Sound combo – and they're still grooving hard! The set's got a strong 70s salsa feel, with a three trumpet lineup, bongos from Roena, and some nice tenor and flute work by Miguel Rodriguez. Titles include "Marejada Feliz", "Nadie ... Alegre All Stars

Way Out - Vol 4
Alegre, Early 60s. Very Good-
4th volume in this great series of classic Latin descargas, featuring some of the greatest players of the sixties running through crack material that gives them all a chance to showcase their talents. Includes their massive version of "Manteca", plus another hard jazz mambo cut, "Ens ... LP, Vinyl record album
Discos Embajador, Early 60s. Very Good-
Great early work from Joe Cuba! Sure, the tracks were recorded before Joe's legendary Latin Soul years – but the vibe is nice and fresh, and the tight stripped-down approach shows how much Joe was ready to revitalize Latin music in the 60s. The percussion's nice and strong, and many cuts ... LP, Vinyl record album
Globo, 1989. Near Mint-

Mongo Santamaria

Soca Me Nice
Concord, 1988. Near Mint-
Late 80s Latin from Mongo Santamaria – but still pretty darn nice! The set's got Santamaria stretching out in the rhythms a bit more from the early days – and also picking up some of the jazz flavors of the Concord label as well – but overall, the proceedings are still quite ... Tito Puente & La Lupe

Homenaje A Rafael Hernandez
Tico, 1971. Very Good+
A mighty tribute to the great songwriter Rafael Hernandez, who'd passed by the time of the recording – served up with vocals from La Lupe, and great arrangements from Tito Puente! Titles include "Las Palomitas", "Canta Canta", "Muchos Besos", "Jugando Mama ... LP, Vinyl record album
Impulse, 1959/1974. Very Good- Gatefold
A classic example of Ra's early genius – and a record that was pulled from a legendary session that the band recorded in 1960. John Gilmore and Marshall Allen hold down the reed solos, and Ra's piano is out front, with plenty of space for crazy solos, especially on the cut "Space ... LP, Vinyl record album

John Coltrane

Coltrane (Impulse)
Impulse, 1962. Very Good- Gatefold
One of John Coltrane's best early albums for Impulse – a warm set of modally grooving tracks, and one that picks up where My Favorite Things left off! The group here features McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums – a really magical rhythm section that ... LP, Vinyl record album
