Look Around

LP (Item 10610) A&M, 1967 — Condition: Very Good
Dreamy bossa pop from the A&M studios of the 60s – the Brasil 66 sound at its best! The style here is a perfect blend of real Brazilian influences and some of the hipper styles bubbling in the LA studio scene of the time – all locked together perfectly by Sergio Mendes, in the twin-voiced style that let Brasil 66 transform any tune they could get their hands on! There's some really great numbers here of Brazilian origin – including Joao Donato's "The Frog", Marcos Valle's "Batucada", and Gilberto Gil's "Roda" – not to mention Sergio's own "Look Around", which is an especially charming number! Other titles include "The Look Of Love", "Pradizer Adeus", and "Like A Lover".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Brown label stereo pressing.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Stillness
A&M, 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold
A real classic from Sergio Mendes – probably most famous for its funky bits! Balancam Na Sucata
Copacabana (Brazil), 1975. Good
The Zimbo Trio backs up Elizeth Cardoso on this groovy LP of bossa tracks recorded in a live setting. The set's got a few of those "pot pourri" selections, where the singer runs through a lot of different tunes in a medley – but the best cuts are the straight ones – like ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jorge Ben

10 Anos Depois
Philips (Brazil), 1960s/Early 70s. Very Good
Great stuff from Jorge Ben! The record features a batch of 3-track medleys that combine titles that Ben recorded over the past 10 years of his career – all blended together in a tight funky way, with that excellent soulful sound that he was using in the mid 70s! Gala/Sigia (Brazil), 1979. Near Mint-
A great little compilation – featuring material (recorded live – but not on all cuts) for the Gala 1979, by Maria Bethania, Tom Ze, Caetano Veloso, and Os Novos Baianos. The sound on the set's nice and raw on the best cuts – and it's worth it alone for the Tom Ze cuts, which ... LP, Vinyl record album
