FatnicePeace Love Unity & Havin Fun (Lil' Dave Fun Size mix, Windy City mix)/My Favorite Things (Buscates Vibrate mix) ... 7-inch
Record Breakin, 2014. Sealed (pic cover)... $4.99
Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness the Lil Dave mix is missing – and the flipside features Fatnice's own take on the concept of "Favorite Things" – served up with this true school vibe that should make him huge, if the world has any sense of justice! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Rocky Gil & The BishopsIt's Not The End/Soul Party ... 7-inch
Sundae Soul (Germany), 1968. Near Mint- ... $7.99
Rare southern funk from Rocky Gil & The Bishops – two tracks from their obscure album for the Crazy Cajun label! "It's Not The End" has a soaring blend of soulful rhythms and unified horns alongside Rocky's vocals – almost with that warmly spinning sound that we love in late 60s material from Archie Bell & The Drells! "Soul Party" is a cut that definitely lives up to its name – with a wickedly funky bassline that sets the whole thing moving right from the start – as the horns pour in with effortless ease, and Rocky invites the whole world to his party with the lyrics! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Al GreenBack Up Train/Don't Leave Me ... 7-inch
Hot Line, Late 60s. Very Good ... $2.99
A great little single from Al – recorded in the pre-Hi, pre-Willie Mitchell days, when he was working with the Soul Mates group, and working with an "e" on the end of his last name. "Back Up Train" has a nice punch in the ballad groove – very mellow, but also slyly funky! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Eddie HarrisEddie Harris Goes To The Movies (7 inch jukebox EP) ... 7-inch
Vee Jay, Early 60s. Very Good+ (pic cover)... $4.99
A little mini jukebox EP of Eddie's excellent Vee Jay LP. After the success that Vee Jay had with Eddie Harris' huge hit version of "Exodus", they cut this album of Eddie playing movie themes – like "Tonight", "Moonglow", "I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry", "Gone With The Wind", "Be My Love" and "Secret Love". Dick Marx handled the arrangements – and the overall sound is slicker than Eddie's "Exodus", as his solos are laid out over larger string arrangements by Dick Marx, but it's not without some charms – especially because Eddie's tone at this point is amazing, filled with little tricks and turns that make just about anything he plays sound great! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has a name in marker on back.)

Willie Henderson & the Soul ExplosionsFunky Chicken (parts 1 & 2) ... 7-inch
Brunswick, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... $9.99
Chicago funkiness from the great Willie Henderson – a tune that was one of his biggest hits, and which has a different kind of groove from Rufus Thomas' number of the same name! Lots of nice skittish percussion, and a good mix of the rough and smooth! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Jon HendricksCloudburst/Four Brothers ... 7-inch
Decca, Mid 50s. Near Mint- ... $4.99
Very cool – and one of the first records we've seen issued under the name of Jon Hendricks! The single is pre-Lambert Hendricks & Ross – but also features backing from the Dave Lambert singers. 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo copy, too. One label has a small sticker.)

Eddie Higgins TrioSoulero (7-inch EP) ... 7-inch
Atlantic, 1965. Very Good+ (pic cover)... $9.99
Great 60s material from pianist Eddie Higgins – one of his few records for Atlantic, and a set that definitely lives up to the seductive power of the title and cover! Eddie's maybe a bit more creative and open here than on some of his other records – more in a Chess Records trio mode than especially his later, more lyrical sides – with great work on rhythm from Richard Evans on bass and Marshall Thompson on drums! The work really reflects Higgins' placement on the Chicago scene of the 60s – and he's got a surprisingly strong left-handed groove at times – on titles that include "Soulero", "Tango Africaine", "Mr Evans","Love Letters", and "Shelly's World". 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Sleeve has light wear and a name in marker.)

Willie HutchParty Down (mono/stereo) ... 7-inch
Motown, 1975. Very Good ... $3.99
A great mellow groover from Willie – lifted from his Ode To My Lady LP, and offered up here in a two-sided promo single! The track's got a very similar beatbox groove feel to Little Beaver's single of the same name – but also features some very nice vocals by Willie. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Booker T & The MGsSlim Jenkin's Place/Groovin' ... 7-inch
Stax, 1967. Very Good ... $4.99
Two lesser known tracks from Booker T – but both nice! "Slim Jenkins" has kind of a slight western tinge on the guitar – stepping around a saloon floor with the kind of edgey approach you'd expect from a guy named "Slim"! "Groovin" is a nice instrumental take on the big crossover hit – done with easily sliding organ and guitar that kind of hint at the later Melting Pot years! 7-inch, Vinyl record

JohnnyOnly Love (voc, inst) (with download) ... 7-inch
Now Again, 2016. Near Mint- ... $7.99
Killer blend of raw funk and fuzzy guitar from Johnny! – spearheaded by neo-classic funk heavy J Whitefield! Whitefield's is a key contemporary funk player to say the least – busting regional and stylistic boundaries with Poets Of Rhythm, Karl Hector & The Malcouns, Whitefield Brothers and more over the years – while always keeping it funky. Johnny! is another exciting chapter, deserving of exclamation point in the name – leaning more on fuzzy funk guitars and raw drums of Ghana and Zambia in inspiration – working with Henry Taylor (some of Ghana legend Ebo Taylor), singer and percussionist Eric Owusu and others. Includes the vocal and instrumental. 7-inch, Vinyl record
