✨✧ MC Shan/Roxanne ShanteBridge (voc)/Roxanne Revenge (voc) ... 12-inch
Pop Art, 1986. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
If you want to appreciate BDP's "South Bronx", you've gotta hear this one. If ya don't know... MC Shan recorded "The Bridge", saying hip hop started in Queensbridge, Queens. BDP replied with "South Bronx", setting the record straight (as we see it). "South Bronx" uses the same beat and replies to "The Bridge" almost line for line. MC Shan then replied with "Kill That Noise", followed by the final word from BDP with "The Bridge Is Over". Shan's first single was "Feed The World" on MCA (which explains KRS's line "You got dropped off MCA, cuz the rhymes you wrote was wack" on "South Bronx"). We won't even begin with the other entries in the Queens/Bronx Battle like MC Poet's "Beat You Down", which was directed at KRS. (And somehow Poet returned to the game as a member of Screwball, with an LP on Tommy Boy.) . . . And you thought the LL/Canibus/Wyclef battle went on too long! All that trivia aside, the record is up there as one of our favorites from the class of '85. The b-side is Roxanne Shante's first single, "Roxanne's Revenge" – by far the best of the Roxanne replies. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(In a stickered sleeve, with light wear.)

✨✧ SadeBy Your Side (original, Neptunes remix, yard mix 1, reggae mix 1) ... 12-inch
Epic, 2000. Near Mint- (pic cover)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the better tracks off Sade's Lover's Rock, with a mellow vibe that does justice to the title of the LP in the original, and a similarly spacious island inflection on the "Yard mix". Truthfully the more amped up Neptunes mix and the "Reggae mix" don't really do the track justice to our ears, but that doesn't mean you won't be feelin' them. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover is bumped at the top left corner.)

✨✧ Jocelyn BrownSomebody Else's Guy (voc, inst) ... 12-inch

One of the most soulful club tracks we can remember from the mid 80s – and a cut with a hook that just won't quit! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Oliver CheathamGet Down Saturday Night (extended version)/Something About You ... 12-inch
MCA (UK), 1983. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
"Get Down Saturday Night" is a wicked bit of 80s groove – a warm bubbling number with stepping bass, washes of keyboards, and a hook that just won't quit! The track springs forth with a sound that few other groovers from the time could match – with a soulful finish that's kept it a classic for years. "Something" is almost as nice – building up with some heavier bass, but still the same warm soul style that makes Cheatham better than most of his contemporaries on the dancefloor from the time! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ SkyyFirst Time Around (Larry Levan Canadian 12 inch rmx)/Call Me (orig 12 inch mix) ... 12-inch
Suss'd/Salsoul (UK), Early 80s. Near Mint- (pic cover)... Out Of Stock
Here's a rare one for ya – Larry Levan's great Canadian remix of "First Time Around" – featuring the kind of work that Larry was famous for! The tune's made even funkier, even thumpier than the original – and grooves with a sensuous rhythm that just won't quit! "Call Me" is tasty too – with a bit more of the bass funk that you'd expect from the group. 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Roy AyersRunning Away (long, short) ... 12-inch
Polydor, 1977. Very Good- (pic cover)... $7.99
Doobie-doo doobie-doo! One of the catchiest Roy Ayers dancefloor tracks ever – a bassy bumping thumper that wonderfully skirts the line between clubby and funky! The track's got female vocals singing along with the hook – all in a mode that's quite similar to the most uptempo work by Ramp – and the tune may well be best known for it's famous sample use by Tribe Called Quest on their classic "Description Of A Fool"! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has edge & surface wear.)

Nicola Conte & Gianluca PetrellaAfrican Spirits (Fred P interpretation)/Tribes (Fred P interpretation) ... 12-inch
Schema (Italy), 2023. New Copy (pic cover)... $21.99 24.99
Fred P offers up two very fresh takes on these cuts from the team of Nicola Conte and Gianluca Petrella – both nice and long, and with a sense of flow that's really wonderful! "African Spirits" comes across with a tribal house sort of vibe – lots of live instrumentation on percussion and trombone, but also a percolating groove that stretches into more house-based energy as the tune moves on! "Tribes" follows a similar groove – also stretching way past 10 minutes as Fred builds the whole tune nicely out of acoustic elements layered into the rhythms! 12-inch, Vinyl record
