Patricia Brennan is a vibist with experience in some farther reaches of
avant expression – but here, she stakes her voice in a very beautiful way – with sounds that build slowly, take gentle shapes, and use both vibes and marimba at a level that has the songs opening up like patient musical flowers, awaiting the sun of
the Patricia's inspiration! There's some of
the spaciousness you might hear with 70s Gary Burton on ECM – but Brennan's music is even more open and thoughtful – never forcing the moment too much, and clearly working with a strong knowledge of
her instruments, but not in a way that has to do anything to prove itself. Titles include "I Like For You To Be Still", "Blame It", "Sonnet", "Episodes", "Magic Square", "Away From Us", "Derrumbe De Turquesas", and three "Improvisation" tracks.
