Mamiya YoshioPrince Of The Sun – Horus' Great Adventure ... CD
Cinema Kan (Japan), 1968. New Copy 2CD ... $48.99
A 2CD set of music designed to accompany Japanese animation that starred "the little Norse Prince Valiant" – the cut lil' guy pictured on the cover, who gets some very action-packed accompaniment here! Most tunes are short and lively, and almost echo an older cartoon mode that you might have heard in the US in the 30s and 40s – not exactly Merrie Melodies or Raymond Scott, but not that far away either – as there's all sorts of playful arrangements, unusual horns, offbeat rhythms, and other things that really make the orchestrations sparkle! As with other titles in this series, the whole thing is very well done, but with all notes and titles in Japanese – a 2CD set with 54 tracks in all. CD

✨✧ VariousResurrection – The Amplified Bible Of Heavenly Grooves ... CD
Second Coming/Trunk (UK), 1960s/1970s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Here's one that we could have never expected – funky music from Christian records! The set features tracks pulled together from 60s and 70s obscurities – jazz, rock, easy, and folksy tunes that are all unified by 2 factors: a groove, and a dedication to spreading the word of the Lord! Martin Green & Jonny Trunk spent years scouring thrift stores, rummage sales, and bargain bins to find these gems – and although one or two of the cuts have shown up on other compilations, most of the material is quite fresh, and pretty darn funky! Think what you might about those with a religious bent – but when they sit down to groove, they get out some pretty funky drums, heavy basslines, and odd instrumental twists! We're not entirely sure what the late JC would say about the set – but we're kind of thinking that if he was around, he'd be tapping his toes to this one pretty strongly. Titles include "Cantante Domino" by Johnny Pearson, "The Addicts Psalm" by Ralph Carmichael, "Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken" and "He Who Would Valiant Be" by Ted Taylor with Tubby Hayes, "A Gay Cliche" by John Ylvisaker, "Some Beautiful Day" by Pete Levin & Bill Comeau, "Sally Brown" by Judy Mackenzie, and "Little Drummer Boy" by The Crusaders. ✨✧ VariousBanana Split For My Baby – 33 Gems From The Good Old Summertime ... CD
Bear Family (Germany), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The sounds of summer in the years before the Beach Boys and surf music – songs that proclaim the glory of the warmest months of the year, but in raunchy styles from the early years of rock and roll! Artists run the gamut from rockabilly singers, to R&B groups, to some surprisingly strong contributions from more pop-oriented acts – and as with other Bear Family packages of this nature, the whole thing is plenty playful – put together with a good deal of wit in the song choices and presentation! Titles include "Sunday Barbecue" by Tennessee Ernie Ford, "The Sun Is Shining" by Elmore James, "Banana Split For My Baby" by Louis Prima, "Summer's Coming (demo)" by Ronnie Dawson, "Strollin On The Beach" by The Hollywood Flames, "Beach Time" by Roger Smith, "Suntan Tattoo" by The Valiants & Sandy Vale, "Summertime Love" by Roy Head & The Traits, "Beach Comber" by Jo Ann Campbell, "Night Theme' by The Mark II, "Moonlight Swim" by Nick Noble, "26 Miles" by The Four Preps, "Sunglasses After Dark" by Dwight Whitey Pullen, "Summertime Rock" by Rodney & The Blazers, and "The Big Beach Party" by The Jades with Pacer's Music.
