✨✧ Tyrone DavisGreatest Hits (Epic) ... LP
Epic, Late 60s/Mid 70s. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Tyrone! Certainly one of the undisputed masters of the Chicago soul scene, with a voice that was instantly recognizable, and a style that matched raw roots with classy production. This early 80's set brings together 12 of Tyrone's classic sides for the Dakar/Brunswick label. Titles included are "Can I Change My Mind", "A Woman Needs To Be Loved", "Turn Back The Hands Of Time", "There It Is", "I Wish It Was Me", "Without You In My Life", "Is It Something You've Got", "I Had It All The Time", "Turning Point", "I'll Be Right Here", "Could I Forget You", and "Let Me Back In". Randy BrownMidnight Desire ... LP
Chocolate City, 1980. Very Good ... $3.99
A sweet, smooth stepper from the great Randy Brown – and a record that's got the same sublime mix of mellow grooves and earthy vocals that you might find on some of Tyrone Davis' best late 70s work for Columbia! Tunes are all plenty darn fresh – written by the team of Homer Banks and Chuck Brooks, who also produced the album – and Randy's got this way of hitting a groove that's confident, but never arrogant – a perfect late 70s masculine mode, of the sort only a handful of singers could handle this well! Titles include "Without You (I Can't Make It Through The Night)", "We Ought To Be Doin It", and "Do You Love Me?" – all of which have great hooks – plus "Do You Love Me", "Love Be With You", and "Love Formula". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has center split top seam and spine.)

Randy BrownWe Ought To Be Doin It/You're So Good ... 12-inch
Chocolate City, 1980. Very Good+ ... $0.99
One of Randy Brown's greatest cuts ever – a smooth mellow soul track, with a nice little two-step vibe, and a groove that make the hook bite nicely! The cut's got the feel of Tyrone Davis or LJ Reynolds work from the time – with a nice mix of deep and smooth! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in a Casablanca sleeve. Sleeve has some pen, and a split top seam.)

Sidney Joe QuallsI Enjoy Loving You (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Dakar/Demon (UK), 1974. New Copy (reissue)... $14.99
Classic work from this massively overlooked 70s soul singer! The set's one of a rare few albums cut by Sidney Joe Qualls – a fantastic talent who's probably better known for his work behind the scenes, and as a songwriter, than he is as a voice on his own. The session is produced with a style that kind of mixes Brunswick Chicago soul with rootsier southern elements – stepping proud in the 70s territory of Johnnie Taylor or Tyrone Davis, but sounding way way better here, and with a much more independent vibe. Plus, the album boasts some incredible material – original tunes written by the likes of Sam Dees, Clifford Davis, George Davis, and others. Titles include "Shut Your Mouth", "Run To Me", "I Enjoy Loving You", "Please Help Me", "Can't Get Enough of Your Love", and "The Next Time I Fall in Love". LP, Vinyl record album

Ted TaylorTaylor Made ... LP
Ronn, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... $13.99
An obscure one from Ted Taylor – a lot blusier than some of his earlier soul work from the 60s, but with some great funky touches that really make the record great! As with most of these Ronn/Jewel albums, there's no real credits, so we have trouble figuring out who helped Ted get his groove so strongly – but we can tell you that the album feels like a combination of Stax soul (ala Johnny Taylor) and west side Chicago soul (ala Tyrone Davis.) Includes the great cut "It's A Funky Situation", plus "Houston Town", "Who's Doing It To Who", "Papa's Gonna Make Love", "I Feel A Chill", and "This Is A Troubled World". LP, Vinyl record album
(Red label pressing.)

✨✧ Otis ClayTurn Back The Hands Of Time/Good Lovin ... 7-inch
Elka, Mid 70s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An obscure one – as Otis does a cover of Tyrone Davis' "Turn Back The Hands Of Time", grooving the track along with a sweet style that's got a bit of modern soul, and which has his voice sounding a lot stronger than on some of his Hi recordings. "Good Lovin" is a midtempo number with a vamping groove – and Otis voice is great as he snakes around the sound of the rhythm section! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ VariousEccentric Soul – The Bandit Label (3LP set – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Numero, Early 70s. New Copy 3 LPs ... Out Of Stock
An incredible peek into a near-lost chapter of Chicago soul – the tiny Bandit label, home to The Majestic Arrows, one of the greatest indie harmony groups of the midwest in the 70s – plus a few other excellent soul artists! As with the other Eccentric Soul volume from Numero, this one offers far more than just an assortment of rare singles – and instead really digs deep to tell the true story of this tiny indie soul label. The music alone is totally great – as the set features a wealth of harmony soul tracks by The Majestic Arrows, plus other funk and soul tracks by Johnny Davis, Altyrone Deno Brown, and Linda Balintine – but the package is equally noteworthy – filled with the storied details of the unusual and exotic practices and lifestyles of the Bandit Records posse. Titles include "One More Time Around", "Another Day", "Doing It For Us", "Love Is All I Need", "Going To Make A Time Machine", "We Love Together", "The Magic Of Your Love", and "I'll Never Cry For Another Boy" by The Majestic Arrows; "We Have Love" and "Bring Back The One I Love" by The Arrows; "If You Love Me" and "Sweet Pea" by Altyrone Deno Brown; "You're A Habit Hard To Break" and "Glad About That" by Linda Balintine; and "You've Got To Crawl To Me" and "Boogedy Boogedy" by Johnny Davis. Plus, the set also features 3 rehearsal takes of tunes by the Majestic Arrows! This massive 3LP package is way bigger than the CD version – features every song recorded by Arrow Brown, 36 tracks in all – in a heavy box, with a greatly-expanded book that contains the long and sordid story of the label. LP, Vinyl record album
