✨✧ Dexter GordonTower Of Power! ... LP
Prestige, 1969. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Dexter Gordon certainly was a tower of power by this point – as his lengthy 60s stay in Europe helped him to work work work, and season his playing considerably – to a point at which he emerged as a masterful soloist far beyond the limits of his early bop recordings! This session features Dexter back with an American group – one that features Barry Harris on piano, Buster Williams on bass, and Tootie Heath on drums – plus a very welcome James Moody on tenor on one track, "Monmartre", blowing in that raspier tone of the late 60s we love so much! Other titles include "Stanley The Steamer", "The Rainbow People", and "Those Were The Days" – all nice and long! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Tower Of PowerUrban Renewal ... LP
Warner, 1974. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
One of the best early albums from Tower Of Power – with kind of a funky choppy groove that feels like a San Francisco version of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, riffing away in a stoner funk mode that always sounds like it might go off slightly, but which always wobbles back on course. Lenny Williams sings lead vocals, and the tunes are a mix of "clever rabbit" type funk lyrics, plus others in the sweeter style that Williams would use on his own solo work. Titles include "It's Not The Crime", "Only So Much Oil In The Ground", "Give Me The Proof", "I Believe In Myself", "Walkin Up Hip Street", "Maybe It'll Rub Off", and "Come Back Baby". ✨✧ Les Baxter/Mike Curb/The 13th PowerWild In The Streets ... LP
Tower, 1968. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Just Sold Out!
Hilarious! This is the soundtrack to a goofy late 60s shocker film about the time when hippies and young folks would take over America. Les Baxter handled the musical score for the film, but the real treat is the schlocky rock tracks – written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, with arrangements by Mike Curb in that fuzzy Tower/AIP mode! The lyrics are hysterical, but also oddly catchy, even though they're trying to make fun of 60s rock. Titles include "Psychedelic Senate", "Fourteen Or Fight", "Wild In The Streets", "Sally LeRoy", and "Free Lovin". LP, Vinyl record album
(In the Unipak cover, with an unglued top seam, light wear, and aging. Label on Side 1 has some squiggles in fluorescent paint.)

✨✧ Sons Of ChamplinSons Of Champlin ... LP
Ariola, 1975. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the best albums we've ever heard from this funky rock group – kind of a mix of styles by groups like Average White Band, Sweetwater, and Tower Of Power. The album features the great funk track "Without Love", which begins with a monster break that has a very dark Eric B kind of feel – plus tracks that include "Rainbow's End", "Geoff's Vibe", "Planet Ripper", "Marp", "Like To Get To Know You", and "All & Everything". ✨✧ SantanaSantana III ... LP
Columbia, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the most searing, soaring albums ever from Santana – a set that takes all the power of the previous two records, and packs it into one tight little set! There's plenty of Latin influences going on – mixed with heavy fuzz from Carlos, and lots of jazz and funky touches too – way more happening on the rhythm tip than most of Santana's contemporaries – which is why the record continues to find such a wonderfully wide audience over the years. Drop cuts like "Batuka","Toussaint L'Overture", "Jungle Strut", or "Para Los Rumberos" next to tracks by War, Mandrill or Tower Of Power and you'll see what we mean – and titles also include "No One To Depend On","Taboo", "Guajira" and "Everything's Coming Our Way". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original US pressing – KC 30595. Cover has some ring and edge wear.)

✨✧ Lenny WilliamsLove Current ... LP
MCA, 1979. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
Lenny's working here with Frank E Wilson – a great producer who really understood his style of singing, and who classed up his act considerably after the early days in Tower of Power. The album's got a good mix of smooth soul and uptempo numbers – and tracks include "Sweet Ecstasy", "If You're In Need", "Last Night I Dreamed", "Doing The Loop De Loop", "Here's To The Lady", and "Though We Loved Once". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has light wear, promo stamp.)

✨✧ Cream/Iron ButterflySavage Seven ... LP
Atco, 1968. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Typical biker movie fare – but this time around played by some more famous groups! The album was put together by Mike Curb – the guy who crafted so many knock-off groups for Tower and Sidewalk biker soundtracks – and truthfully, Mike doesn't produce the work on the album by the big stars. Cream do a nicely gentle jazzy number called "Anyone For Tennis", and the fuzzy instrumental "Desert Ride" – and Iron Butterfly perform "Iron Butterfly Theme" and "Unconscious Power", plus some other instrumentals that are more in keeping with work on other Curb soundtracks. Barbara Kelly & The Morning Good do the rest of the album – very much in that instrumental rock vein that you'd get on other Curb scores – running through a pretty nice mix of instrumental tunes that includes "Savage Struggle", "The Medal", "Here Comes The Fuzz", and "Shacktown Revenge". ✨✧ Lenny WhiteBig City ... LP
Nemperor, 1977. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A great little album by Lenny White – nicely restrained in the best moments, with less of the heavy-hitting fusion sound that you'd hear on his other albums – and even done with a strong current of funk, which really sends the whole thing home in a great way! Space jazz maestro Pat Gleeson produced the album with Lenny – and also plays quite a bit of synth on the album – and we're convinced that it's Pat's subtler jazz talents that really make this one shine – those cool keyboards, and strong sense of balance that he brought to his own albums, and other productions of the time. Highlights include the spiritual soul number "Sweet Dreamer", with vocals by Linda Tillery and keyboards by Herbie Hancock – and the tight "Big City" groove, which features great contributions from both Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, and the Tower Of Power Horns. Other tracks include "The Ritual", "Rapid Transit", "And We Meet Again", "Enchanted Pool Suite", and "Ritmo Loco". LP, Vinyl record album
