Ike & Tina TurnerSoul Of Ike & Tina (United) ... LP
Kent/United, Mid 60s. Very Good+ ... $9.99 11.99
Hard-hitting early work from Ike & Tina Turner – raw, unbridled, and surprisingly tight – yet without any of the cliches or overdone righteousness that marred their later years! Tina's still singing here often as part of the backing group, stepping out for a soulful lead at times, but also very much in touch with her supporting sisters – and there's a number of tunes that have a really nice focus on Ike's raw and raspy guitar work, which we always like a lot! All tunes are Ike Turner originals – freshly voiced tracks, and none of the crossover covers that the pair later included in their work – and titles include "Hard Times", "I Don't Need", "Chicken Shack", "Gonna Have Fun", "It's Crazy Baby", "Am I A Fool In Love", "Don't You Blame It On Me", and "Hurt Is All You Gave Me". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has some very light wear, but this is a nice copy.)

✨✧ Ike & Tina TurnerWhat You Hear Is What You Get – Live At Carnegie Hall ... LP
United Artists, 1971. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The Ike & Tina Turner Revue shakes the foundation at Carnegie Hall on April Fools Day, 1971! There's a good reason for there being so many live albums by Ike & Tina – it's because they're damn great on stage – and this NYC set is a strong showcase for The Ikettes and The Kings Of Rhythm, too! The group was riding a peak wave of popularity around this time, and they cover a wide variety of songs in a set that's masterfully-paced – starting out slow and building up intensity as it goes! Titles include the Ikettes-led "Piece Of My Heart" and "Everyday People", the thunderous Tina intro "Doin' The Tina Turner", "Sweet Soul Music", "Proud Mary", "I Smell Trouble", "Ike's Tune", "I Want To Take You Higher", "I've Been Loving You Too Long", "Respect" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a split on the spine and some edge wear.)

✨✧ Inez FoxxMockingbird ... LP
Symbol, Mid 60s. Very Good ... $38.99
An early hummer from one of the hardest male/female soul acts next to Ike & Tina Turner, but listed here under Inez's name. Inez & Charlie scored super big with their hit "Mockingbird" – the tune that kicks off this LP for a subsidiary of the Sue label – but they also had a style that could get them through a wide variety of material, grooving long past their hits, with great vocals up front, and plenty of hot guitar licks to keep the grooves rough! A dozen great numbers hee, including the title track and "Sitting Here", "Jaybirds", "The Ball Game", "Tom & Jim", "I See You My Love", "The Angels Got Together", "Broken Hearted Fool", "The Angels Got Together", "Searching For My CC", "Love Me Today" and "Talk With Me". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing – black no-logo label with silver text and deep groove – a nice clean copy!)

Jack Nitzsche, Captain Beefheart & OthersBlue Collar – Original Soundtrack ... LP
MCA, 1978. Near Mint- ... $3.99 5.99
Some choice soundtrack work from Jack Nitzsche's prime 70s period, with a handful other tracks by Howlin' Wolf, Captain Beefhaeart and Ike & Tina Turner. For the most part the soundtrack is bluesy rootsy stuff, to go along with the slant of the film, but there is a great funky break on the intro to "Zeke, Jerry & Smokie". Also includes "Coke Machine", "FBI", "Party", and "Easy Listening". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cut corner, light wear, and a promo sticker.)

✨✧ Bobbie GentryOde To Billie Joe ... LP
Capitol, 1967. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A key late 60s country crossover set, but one that also inspired a fair bit of funk as well! The title cut's a well-known gem – one that's been covered instrumentally in some break-heavy versions, but which sounds even more amazing here in Bobbie's original version – one of the moodiest pop tunes we've ever heard, with lyrics, and a way of presenting them, that still leaves us breathless all these many years later. There's also some other funky bits here too – Gentry's raspy "Mississippi Delta" – an original number that almost seems to unseat Tina Turner for down-home soul – and the groovy "Sunday Best", "Niki Hoeky", "Papa Won't You Let Me Go To Town With You", and "Chickasaw Country Child", all numbers that echo the same lilting acoustic guitar grooves of "Billie Joe". LP, Vinyl record album
(Rainbow label stereo pressing. Cover has light wear.)
Also available Ode To Billie Joe (180 gram pressing) ... LP 27.99

✨✧ BEF (British Electric Foundation)Music Of Quality & Distinction Vol 1 ... LP
Virgin (UK), 1982. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A strangely compelling project from the British Electric Foundation – the production alter ego of Heaven 17 from the early 80s! The core of the package features tracks from a BEF tribute to pop of the 60s and 70s – featuring a great assortment of (then) nearly-lost singers, working through an equally great assortment of tunes of older vintage – all produced with some slightly ironic new wave touches, but also still coming across in versions that clearly respect the originals. Titles include "It's Over" and "The Secret Life Of Arabia" by Billy Mackenzie, "Wichita Lineman" and "Perfect Day" by Glenn Gregory, "Suspicious Minds" by Gary Glitter, "These Boots Are Made For Walking" by Paula Yates, "There's A Ghost In My House" by Paul Jones "You Keep Me Hanging On" by Bernie Nolan, "Ball Of Confusion" by Tina Turner and "Anyone Who Had A Heart" by Sandie Shaw.
