✨✧ Tina BrooksComplete Blue Note Recordings Of Tina Brooks (4LP set) ... LP
Mosaic, Early 60s. Near Mint- 4LPs & Book ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Very nice! Tenorist Tina Brooks had one rare album released for Blue Note (the classic True Blue), but he also recorded 3 others for the label which never came out. Although one of them, Back To The Tracks, has since come out in the US, there's 2 more albums on here that have not been released over here. All four are great, and feature prime Blue Note hardbop by one of the best underrated tenor talents in the business. He's playing here with all star groups on every session, and players include Johnny Coles, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Sonny Clark, Jackie McLean, and Art Blakey. Great stuff, with 4 very nicely pressed LPs, and a good booklet with photos, writings, and a discography. The whole thing's handsomely packaged in a nice box, and we're not sure, but isn't it out of print by now? LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Tina BrooksWaiting Game (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Blue Note, 1961. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A wonderful title for this rare fourth album from Tina Brooks – as the set was recorded by Blue Note in 1961, but had to wait for many decades to finally get reissued! Don't let that put you off, though, as the set's every bit as sublime as Tina's classic True Blue album for the label – an equally masterful session from a tenor talent whose every note seems to be very special and well-placed – working here in a quintet setting with Johnny Coles on trumpet, Kenny Drew on piano, Wilbur Ware on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums! This was the last year that Brooks would ever record, making the set one of his final testaments in jazz – before he lapsed into relative obscurity, and passed away in the mid 70s. Titles include "David The King", "Dhyana", "Talkin About", and "The Waiting Game". LP, Vinyl record album
(Part of the Blue Note Tone Poet series!)

✨✧ Jimmy SmithCool Blues ... LP
Blue Note, 1958. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Proof that at his start, Jimmy Smith had a greatness that knew no bounds – as the album's one of a few that Blue Note recorded in the late 50s, but never issued until many years later – even though they had already released so many amazing records from this period! The set has Jimmy really cooking away – playing live at Small's Paradise, in a group that has Lou Donaldson's alto on just about every track, and tenor from Tina Brooks on most of the others too. Tunes are tighter and shorter than on the more jam session albums, which makes for a nice change – and titles include "Groovin At Smalls", "Dark Eyes", "Cool Blues", and "A Night In Tunisia" – which begins with an announcement from Babs Gonzales!
