✨✧ SadeBest Of Sade ... CD
Epic, Late 80s/Early 90s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Has there ever been anyone as lovely as Sade? We think not – and from the time she first hit our ears in the 80s, it was the start of an instant love affair that's continued for decades! Sade really brought something new to music at the time – a return to older styles of acoustic and jazz-based instrumentation, at a time when so many soul singers were mostly working with beats, keyboards, and samples – and a breathy voice that was instantly unique, and which kept on captivating us for years of recordings. This best of collection dates from the mid 90s – and provides an excellent sampling of tracks from Sade's albums Diamond Life, Promise, Stronger Than Pride, and Love Deluxe – titles that include "No Ordinary Love", "Like A Tattoo", "Cherish The Day", "Kiss Of Life", "Your Love Is King", "Hang Onto Your Love", "Sweetest Taboo", "Is It A Crime", and "Nothing Can Come Between Us". ✨✧ SadeLove Deluxe ... CD
Epic, 1992. Used ... Out Of Stock
Sade's last LP from the early 90s before she went into her brief recording and performing hiatus. Like the preceding records, the approach is heavy on the jazz side of things, with a crisp, spare touch on the production and a wonderfully soulful feel to the songwriting. At this point she no longer had to work to break into the charts, but that didn't stop her and her band from coming up with a great batch of material that managed to be easily accessible without losing any of the sublime grace that set her apart. Includes "No Ordinary Love", "Cherish The Day", "Feel No Pain", "I Couldn't Love You More", "Like A Tattoo", "Kiss Of Life", "Pearls", "Bullet Proof Soul" and "Mermaid". CD

✨✧ Jonny TeupenHarpadelic ... CD
MPS (Japan), 1969. Used ... Out Of Stock
Electric harp?!?! Don't ask us – we like it! Jonny Teupen was one of the strangest and most wonderful artists to record for the MPS label during their glory days – and his big instrument was a jazz harp, which he often electrified to great result! Sure, Dorothy Ashby had been making jazz inroads on the instrument in the US at about the same time – but Teupen had a cool sound that was a bit sitar, a bit guitar, and a bit "inside the piano" at his wildest moments. This record is maybe his greatest moment ever – and mixes Jonny's harp with vibes from Dave Pike guitar from Volker Kriegel, trumpet from Shake Keane, and drums from Charly Antolini – all solid MPS players who really help ground the sound! Titles include "Blue Tattoo", "I Saw The Sun Going Down", "Love Me", " The Cornflower Girl", "Come Back & Shake Me", and "Harp Revolution". CD

✨✧ Chico FreemanPied Piper ... CD
Blackhawk, 1984. Used ... Out Of Stock
A surprisingly great little set from Chico Freeman – and a record that seems to hone his best creative energies of the loft jazz years into an even hipper groove! The group here features Freeman on a wide variety of reeds – alongside John Purcell on saxes and oboe, Kenny Kirkland on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums – all in a sound that's wonderfully focused, and in a way that almost has Chico sounding a lot more deeply expressive than in earlier years. To us, Freeman's always been one of those players who sounds better on the inside than the out – and this album has him nicely restrained, and really working on the best side of his craft. Titles include "Blues On The Bottom", "The Rose Tattoo", "Pied Piper", "Monk 2000", "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise", and "Amor Sona Dor". CD

✨✧ AtmosphereLucy Ford ... CD
Rhymesayers, 2000. Used ... Out Of Stock
Atmosphere's signature tortured, catchy and introspective hip hop. A tad bit more polished than their previous efforts, but Slug still harnesses the dark and bitterness deep down. The ANT production on these tracks really shines and had matured significantly since earlier work. Tracks include "Between The Lines", "Guns And Cigarettes", "Party For The Fight To Write", "The Woman With The Tattooed Hands", "Free Or Dead", "Mama Had A Baby And His Head Popped Off", "Tears For The Sheep", "Aspiring Sociopath", "They're All Gonna Laugh @ You", "Nothing But Sunshine" and more.
