Profile, 1987. Near Mint- ... $14.99
Another nice mid-80's Profile MC that somehow never put out a full length LP. It really is a shame. Probably our favorite use of the James Brown "Talkin Loud" sample. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(White label promo in a Profile sleeve.)

MPS/Talkin' Loud (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good+ 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Great 3rd volume in this legendary series of groovy compilations which dig through the vaults of MPS records to come up with an insane mix of jazz, fusion, and grooves that end up filling up all the little cracks in your record collection that you'd never been able to track down in the original. Every bit as great as the last two comps, and probably an even deeper fee – with titles that include "Stars & Rockets" by Peter Thomas, Suite Pour San Remo Overture" by Jef Gilson, "Big P" by Modern Jazz Group Freiburg, "Yaad" by Jazz Meets India, "Modal Forces Movement A" by Fritz Pauer, "Sakara" by Clarke Boland Big Band, "Burungkaka Tua" by Tony Scott & The Indonesian All Stars, "Just Give Me Time" by Mark Murphy, "Things We Said Today" by London Jazz 4, "Waldmadchen" by Gustav Brom, "Blue Dance" by Roland Kovac, and "Color" by Erwin Lehn. Brownswood/Talkin' Loud (UK), 1996. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... $34.99
An eclectic set from UFO, with their mad blend of styles including spy theme thrillers, angular (but still groovy!) jazziness and even some nice soundtracky very French mod bits! The album features 12 numbers in all, including "His Name Is. . .", "Nica's Dream", "Spy's Spice (Mon Espionne)", "Dice For A Chance", "Planet Plan (edit)", "Waltz (Le Serpent Rouge)", "Picaresque Eye", "Friends – We'll Be" and "The Moving Shadows". ✨✧ IncognitoPositivity ... CD
Talkin' Loud/Universal, 1993. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Wonderful work from Incognito – perhaps their greatest album ever! By the time of this 1993 release, this Brit funky soul combo was in perfect form – blending together classic modes of jazz funk into a tight modern blend that's lasted a lot longer than anyone might have thought at the time. From the perspective of nearly a decade later, this album glistens like a lost soul jewel – perfectly fitting in between some of our favorite 70s albums, and a few of the better sides from recent years. The vocals are great, the riffing is tight, and the production is smooth and soulful all the way through. Tracks include "Still A Friend Of Mine", "Positivity", "Smiling Faces", "Do Right", "Talkin Loud", and "Thinkin About Tomorrow". CD

✨✧ Young DisciplesRoad To Freedom (US version) ... CD
Talkin' Loud/Polygram, 1991. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the greatest soul albums of the past 20 years – an instant classic the day it was released! When this killer came out in the UK in 1991, it was one of the best soul records we'd heard in years. Carleen Anderson, the then-unknown daughter of Bobby Byrd & Vicki Anderson, sung some of the deepest vocals we'd heard in years – and she was backed by funky soundscapes filled with references and homages to greats like Roy Ayers, Leroy Hutson, Leon Ware, 24-Carat Black, and many others – all now well-remembered artists from the rare groove years of the 70s, but at the time just barely-remembered echoes from the past who were being kept alive in the British soul scene. The record was (and is) impeccable – a wondrous treat for fans of the kind of rare groove material we stock at Dusty Groove – and it features stellar performances by the likes of Carleen Anderson, Master Ace, Johnny Lytle, Maceo Parker, and others! This US version features a few remixes from the original UK album – and titles include "All I Have (Young Ideas mix)", "Funky Yeh Funki (Mek It)", "Talkin What I Feel", "Move On", "Apparently Nothin (Soul River)", "Get Yourself Together (parts 1 & 2)", "Freedom Suite", "Step Right On (original mix)", and "As We Come (To Be)". ✨✧ Terry CallierTimepeace (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Talkin' Loud/Music On Vinyl (Netherlands), 1998. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Terry Callier's first album in nearly 2 decades – and a return to the folksy glory of his roots! The set was put together by the British Talking Loud label – no surprise, given that although back home, Callier had fallen into obscurity – but his star was still riding very high on the London scene! And given the London touch, the sound here is very respectful – a mode that lets Terry's vocals and warm acoustic guitar lines take center stage, supported by only a bit of additional instrumentation, mostly from longtime associates. Titles include "Lazarus Man", "Love Theme From Spartacus", "Timepeace", "Following Your Footprints", "Java Sparrow", "No More Blues", and "Traitor To The Race". LP, Vinyl record album

A massive record – and an instant legend the day it was released! Masters At Work host the beautiful meeting of a host legendary artists – Roy Ayers, George Benson, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Jocelyn Brown, Vince Montana, and others – all united in a magical session that brings Latin firmly back to the dancefloor with the power and majesty of the best 70s recordings! The whole thing's amazing – a fantastic mix of Latin, funk, jazz, and house that's inspired a whole new generation of musicians – and which has still yet to be duplicated years later! Includes the massive remake of "I Am the Blackgold of the Sun", plus "Runaway", "Sweet Tears", and the great cover of Bob James' "Nautilus". CD

The Bon Voyage album was UFO's best record in years – and this set features some of the best tracks on the album, all nicely remixed with different bits! The package is pretty darn groovy, and the set features 9 tracks in all – including "Tres Amigos (organic audio rmx)", "Good Luck Shore (Joujouka tfpp mix)", "Tres Amigos (Peshay mix)", "Flying Saucer (Kings Of Tomorrow rmx)", "Flying Saucer (Modaji Out There Somewhere mix)", "Flying Saucer (Life On Mars dub)", "Somewhere (Restless Soul Peaktime mix)". Talkin' Loud/Verve, 1994. Used ... Out Of Stock
UFO's second album – and a great batch of tracks that mix together classic jazz samples, modern beats, odd little snippets from other sources, and wrap the whole thing up with the wit of the Japanese scene! The record's got the same pastiche style as other Japanese combos from the time – but has much more of a respect for a classic jazz sound, as you'll hear on the group's great remake of "Stolen Moments", with some killer vocals by Mark Murphy. Other tracks include "United Future Airlines", "Magic Wand Of Love", "Future Light", "Mistress Of Dance", and "Doopsylalolic". CD

✨✧ VariousNight Trip – Compiled By Toshio Matsuura Of United Future Organization ... CD
Brownswood/Talkin' Loud (Japan), 1999. Used ... Out Of Stock
The 4th volume in this excellent Brownswood series that has "Top DJ of the World" selecting groovy and funky tracks from the Polygram catalog! Compiled by one of the Brownswood partners, and a member of UFO, the album's got a beautiful blend of older jazz and funk tracks that show just how committed the band is to digging through obscure groove sources from around the world. Unlike some of the other volumes, this one features mostly titles of older vintage – and the whole thing's mixed live from "original vinyls only"! Very groovy, in the style of the Mojo Club comps, or the Talkin' Jazz series. Includes "This Strange Affair" by The Peddlers, "Poobil" by Jasper Van't Hof, "The Creator Has A Master Plan" by Louis Armstrong, "The Beat Goes On" by Buddy Rich, "Long Daddy Green" by Blossom Dearie, "Speechcraft" by Horst Jankoswki, "Tele Tema" by Reginha E Laercio, and "Night Trip" by Pacific Jam. ✨✧ VariousJames Brown's Funky People Part 3 ... CD
Polydor, Early 70s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Amazing – and the best yet in this legendary series! Like the other volumes, this is a collection of funky work produced by James Brown for other artists, most of it lifted from his legendary People Records imprint. However, unlike the others, or at least unlike the first volume, this volume's got some amazing stuff that almost never shows up on other reissues – and it's even got some incredible unreleased material! The whole thing's a super-heavy super-funky dip into some of the rarest James Brown-related material you can find – if you can find it at all in any other format. Titles include "Pick Up The Pieces One By One" by AABB, "There Was A Time" by Dee Felice Trio, "Doin The Do" by Bobby Byrd & The JBs, "Who Knows" by Beau Dollar, "Talkin Loud & Sayin Nothin (original rock version)" by James Brown, "Mr Hot Pants" by The Believers, "Give It Up Or Turnit Loose" by Lyn Collins (a 45-only track), "How You Gonna Get Respect?" by Hank Ballard, "Hang Out & Hustle" by Sweet Charles (a 45-only track), and "Blow Your Head (undubbed version)" by The JBs! Great stuff – and at this price, you'll be funky and rich! CD

The fourth fantastic chapter in this wonderful trip through the 60s – headed up by author Jon Savage, as a great soundtrack to his documents of the time! And sure, there's a number of familiar songs here – but they're mixed with lesser-known gems, and presented in this great double-length package that features 48 tracks in all – all with notes from Savage himself. ✨✧ VariousRunning The Voodoo Down – Exploration In Psychrockfunksouljazz 1967 to 1980 ... CD
Festival, Late 60s/Early 70s. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A great look at the influence of psychedelia on funk music – served up here in territory that starts with electric Miles Davis and prime Jimi Hendrix – then takes off into great new space of its own! The collection's awash in freak and fuzz, but also has plenty of heavy drums and basslines, too – served up by a range of soulful artists who were really blowing their minds and expanding their musical horizons at the end of the 60s – taking the same kind of chances that rock artists were in their album-long journeys – with results that are equally impressive! Familiar tracks are mixed with lesser-known gems – and titles include "Mary Don't Take Me On No Bad Trip" by Fugi, "Red Hot Mama" by Funkadelic, "Cherrystones" by Eugene McDaniels, "Patience Is Virtue" by William S Fischer, "Liar" by The Meters, "Thrills Of Love" by Warlock, "Willie Nelson (take 3)" by Miles Davis, "California Dreamin" by Eddie Hazel, "Like A Rolling Stone" by The Undisputed Truth, "Thank You For Talkin To Me Africa" by Sly & The Family Stone, "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, "Doriella Du Fontaine" by Lightnin Rod & Jimi Hendrix, "Talkin Loud & Sayin Nothin (parts 1 & 2)" by James Brown, "Down By The River" by Buddy Miles, and "In A Silent Way (live)" by Santana. 2CD set features bonus tracks not on the vinyl – including "I Feel Bad" by Pure Hell, "Brown Rice" by Don Cherry, and "If You Got It You'll Get It" by The Headhunters. Polydor, Early 70s/1986. Used ... Out Of Stock
Massive – and one of the best James Brown compilations ever, filled with rare and unreleased material! This completely essential set features tracks pulled from James' best years ever – the mighty early 70s, when he was working with the JBs, and laying down tracks that would forever change the face of funk! The tunes on the album are right up there with the best work on classic albums like The Payback, Doin It To Death, Hot Pants, and any of the other killer Polydor funk albums by James – and most of them were pulled from sessions for those records, and brought together in this format for the first time in the late 80s. The centerpiece of the set is a 9 minute version of "Funky Drummer", and other highlights include new versions of "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose (remix)", "Soul Power (mono re-edit)", and "Talkin' Loud & Sayin' Nothin (remix)". The set's also got bonus beats of "Funky Drummer", a long single take of "Hot Pants (She Got To Use What She Got To Get What She Wants)" (8:42 minutes long!), and the nice rare track "I Got To Move" – previously unreleased, and nice and long! Folkways, 1954. Very Good+ 2LP Box Set ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A drum-heavy spectacular – recorded with a really rootsy feel! The first half of the material was recorded in Africa – not credited especially well, but done with a stripped-down sound that's very heavy on drums and other odd percussion instruments – recorded in that rough, loud Folkways style that really makes the music sound nicely bombastic. The remaining tracks on the set are from a variety of North and South American locales – Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, and even the US – as Baby Dodds turns in a solo on the final track! Titles include "Ceremonial Drums", "Dance Drums", "Stamping Tubes", "Salute To A Chief", "Sit Log Talking Drum", "Djuka Dance Drums", "Lucumi", "Jumping Dance Drums", "Cuminia Drums", "Rhythms For The Deity Ogoun", and "Jazz Drumming".
