Bob Seger System2+2=?/Ivory ... 7-inch
Third Man, Late 60s. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)... Just Sold Out!
A monster couple tracks by The Bob Seger System – from long before Bob become a road weary superstar, working in the late 60s with a pummeling mix of garage rock a real love for gritty Detroit soul! "2+2=?" is a trudging, sort of anti-war song with massive drums and the bass loud in the mix, and Bob had a lot of that great, gravelly grit in his voice even at this young age! "Ivory" a bit more of a rocker's nod to raw soul, again with a killer bass groove, this one with heavy organ, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Freedom Sounds featuring Wayne HendersonSoul Sound System ... LP
Atlantic, 1968. New Copy (reissue)... $14.99
The second album by The Freedom Sounds – a very cool west coast soul jazz collective, headed by Wayne Henderson, and featuring a great mix of jazz, soul, and Latin rhythms! This set's a little more ambitious than the group's first album – with a number of tracks that groove in a very strong Latin jazz mode, sounding a lot like some of the best work on Atlantic at the time by Mongo Santamaria, Hubert Laws, and others. Henderson's trombone is still a key solo instrument, but the album also features some incredible sax work from Willie Gresham – a player we know little about, but who makes the album cook in the same fantastic way that Hubert Laws and Sonny Fortune did for Mongo's best work of the 60s! The grooves are very right-on, with plenty of excellent percussion work – and titles include the originals "Love-Out", "Behold The Day", and "Soul Sound System", plus some groovy covers, like "All You Need is Love", "What The World Needs Now Is Love", and "Are You Sure?" – all done with a great Latiny groove! VariousNoise Reduction System – Formative European Electronica 1974 to 1984 (4CD set) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), 1970s/Early 80s. New Copy 4CD ... $34.99
An incredible collection of electronic sounds that went on to inform generations of rock, pop, and dance music in years to come – but all featured here with much more interesting examples from the European roots of the genre! There's a wonderful criss-crossing of sources going on here – some academic experimenters from electronic labs, some prog musicians getting a bit more analog, some early digital keyboard wizards, and some downright punky folks – using electronics instead of guitars! The blend is wonderful, and very ear-opening – even more amazing than the partner set in this series, Close To The Noise Floor, which focused on the UK. The music here includes early work by artists you might not expect in such company, alongside others who flourished briefly at the time, gave us some great sounds – then quickly disappeared. Fortunately, the big book of notes tells all the details of the groups and their music – making the whole thing as historically informative as it is entertaining. Titles include "Ich Will" by DAF, "Ny Ny" by Truus De Groot, "Caramel" by Cluster, "Godot Was Here" by Human Flesh, "Soviet Invasion" by Doxa Sinistra, "Last Lift" by Not Only Bones, "Geld" by Malaria, "Son" by Minny Pops, "What's Dat" by Der Plan, "Industrial Tape Track 3 (excerpt)" by Maurizio Bianchi, "Sexual Discipline" by Die Form, "Flanco Dama" by Diseno Corbusier, "Troglodyten" by Asmus Tietchens, "Hymne Au Ver" by Bene Gesserit, "Secret Affair No 2" by Borghesia, "Glue Head" by Yello, "Party Talk" by Andre De Koning, "Shai Hulud" by Bernard Szajner, and "TAnze & Singen" by DDAA. 61 tracks in all! Eric AlexanderTemple Of Olympic Zeus ... CD
High Note, 2007. Used ... $7.99
A cheesy cover, but a rock-solid set of work from the mighty Eric Alexander – who seems to be stretching out even more here than before! Alexander's always been a hell of a straight ahead talent on the tenor, but here he's almost hitting a few more modern modes at times – not "out" in his soloing, but a bit more free thinking in the overall construction and execution of the tunes – willing to change things up a bit in the rhythms, and give the record even more freshness than we might have expected. Alexander's easily one of the greatest living talents in jazz recording today – and we're already huge fans of his work – but he's won us over even more with this set, and a few of the chances he takes on some of the tunes. The group's a well-matched batch of regulars – including Jim Rotondi on trumpet, David Hazeltine on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Joe Farnsworth on drums – and titles include "The Temple Of Olympic Zeus", "Someday We'll All Be Free", "Lucas Too", "Blues For David", "I'm Gonna Laugh You Right Out Of My Life", "I'll Keep Loving You", and "Dave's System". AmadanaSibreco Turntable (internal speakers in wood cabinet – complete with USB & RCA outputs, and stylus) ... Turntable
Amadana (Japan), 2015. New Item ... $259.99
A totally wonderful little turntable – solid, stylish, and totally self-contained – with a strong sound that's a lot better than most other plug-and-play models on the market! The first thing that stands out with this one is the base – which is very solid, and has a wood veneer – which seems to give the whole thing a much warmer sound than the mostly-plastic models on the market, especially when you turn the volume way up! The speakers are hidden in the legs – isolated from the platter in a nice way that causes a lot less interference when the volume is up – and the platter features a belt drive, which further reduces distortion – and makes for very solid playback. The turntable spins at 33, 45, and 78rpm – and it comes with a ceramic stereo cartridge and stylus, for easy play right out of the box. And although you can play the unit on its own, it also has RCA outputs that allow you to plug into a full stereo system – as well as a USB output, with MP3 software too. The whole thing's capped off by a great dust cover that keeps the record free of dust while playing – and we'd honestly be hard-pressed to find a better self-contained turntable on the market today! One of the most sought after reggae soundtracks, and it's no wonder – Chris "The Vampire" Blackwell pulled out all the stops on this great compilation to the rarely seen film. As you'd expect, it's an all star cast of island (and Island) greats, with pure roots numbers sitting right next to slightly more slicked up tracks. Includes "Time Will Tell" and "Pass It On" by Bob Marley & The Wailers, "Sitting & Watching" by Dennis Brown, "Ooh Aah" by The Fabulous Five, "Bam Bam" by Toots & The Maytals, "Ramble" by Rico, "Sound System" by Steel Pulse, and "Mosman Skank" by Aswad. Plus, there's a nice batch of numbers recorded by Wally Badaru for the film's score, excellent instrumentals and a few with some dialogue overlaid, including "Theme From Countryman", "Guidance", and "Obeah Man Dub". John Cage with David TudorVariations IV – Volume II ... LP
Everest/Essential, 1965. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99 24.99
A very cool album that presents Cage at the height of his "chance" composition stage, and which features him and David Tudor playing a mixed bag of sounds on a sound system, recorded live at the Feigen-Palmer Gallery in LA. The work is the kind of stuff you always hear about with Cage, but can't find that easily on record. The album's a haunting melange of random sounds – from radio noise, to gamelon recordings, to sound effects – and it's striking proof of how fresh these ideas still are, even if they've been reduced to drivel by countless "experimental" post-rock bands. Clarke Boland Big BandAt Her Majesty's Pleasure ... LP
Black Lion, 1969. Very Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
One of the greatest long-form albums from the Clarke Boland Big Band – a sophisticated suite that not only shows off the writing ability of Francy Boland, but also demonstrates the group's ability to swing like a mofo, even when things are serious! The album's a jazz suite written by Boland, and dedicated to the great prisons of England – where Johnny Griffin was once kept "At Her Majesty's Pleasure", due to non-payment of some income tax. The experience of Griffin led Boland to explore the idea of the British penal system with a number of powerful emotional themes, and the result of this writing is one of the CBBB's best albums of the late 60s – filled with rich colors and tones that go far beyond the earlier modes of the group, but without some of the too-complicated elements that sometimes show up in later suites. A good part of the album's success comes from the strength of the soloists – players who include Johnny Griffin and Ronnie Scott on tenor, Tony Coe on clarinet, Sahib Shihab on flute and soprano, Kenny Wheeler and Benny Bailey on trumpets, and Ake Persson and Nat Peck on trombones. Titles include "Pentonville", "Wormwood Scrubs", "Doing Time", "Broadmoor", and "Going Straight". LP, Vinyl record album

Earth Wind & Fire touch the world with this sweet batch of grooves – a set of tracks that has them firmly embracing the electric sound of 80s soul, yet still bringing in some light spiritual touches of their own! The beats are pretty heavy at points – making for plenty of groovers – but the group almost seems to shine most on the ballads, which continue to provide a perfect showcase for the vocals of Philip Bailey and Maurice White. A few cool studio touches reference the group's earlier history – a nice reminder amidst the more contemporary sounds – and titles include "You & I", "System Of Survival", "Every Now & Then", "Money Tight", "Here Today & Gone Tomorrow", "Victim Of The Modern Heart", and "Thinking Of You". Fela & Africa 70Ikoyi Blindness/Kalakuta Show ... CD
Barclay/MCA (France), 1976. Used ... Just Sold Out!
Fela and Africa 70 are honed to razor-sharp perfection on these 2 albums from 1976! There's some incredible work on tenor sax on some of the cuts – especially "Ikoyi Blindness" and "Kalakuta Show", both of which begin with incredibly well-wrought solos that show Fela as an incredibly strong jazz-based player. The cut "Don't Make Garan Garan" is a slow building groover – one that starts with spooky tinny keyboards, mixes in guitar comping, and then kicks into a nice tight percussion riff. The CD's completed by "Gba Mi Leti Ki N'Dolow" – translated as "Slap Me Make I Get Money", an attack on the way that the rich bend the system of justice to their own needs. CD

The title of the record may sound a bit scientific, but the music within has a very human appeal – sweet funky rhythms forged by the team of DJ Rocca and Stefano Ghittoni – the latter of whom you might know from previous productions with The Dining Rooms! The sound here is maybe an even more stripped-down take on that group's approach – very classic in the core elements used, but very contemporary in presentation overall – almost with a lean, very rhythmic approach that takes us back to the earliest years of Italo House – especially in the warmth of the tunes – but with a vibe that's also much more 21st Century overall! Titles include "Jupiter", "Cosmic Double Bass", "Past Present & Future", "Soul Place", "Memories", and "Carrie System". CD

FM3, New Item ... About January 20, 2017 (delayed)
An amazing version of this ultra-cool item – the legendary Buddha Machine, which has been around for many years in a number of incarnations – but may well have found the perfect expression in the music of Philip Glass! The original Buddha box was a small transistor radio-like object that contained sound samples to aid in meditation – mostly chants and tones that were minimal, and would repeat. Yet this version features some beautiful musical lines from the works of composer Philip Glass – piano passages mostly, but with some organ and vocal bits too – all with a warmth and sense of color that other boxes never had. And there's also something very special about the presentation – extremely minimal, even in the sonic range that comes from the small speaker – which is a very different think than listening to the music of Glass through a full stereo system – much more organic and spatially relevant! Cameron GravesPlanetary Prince ... CD
Mack Avenue, 2017. New Copy ... $16.99 17.98
A fantastic debut as a leader from pianist Cameron Graves – an artist you might know from Kamasi Washington's album The Epic – and an even more tremendous talent when he gets his own chance to shine in the spotlight! Graves has a very bold, righteous vision here – a mode that's in the same California Get Down spirit as Washington's music, but with more focus on the structures built up by the piano – almost a post-modal approach, with soaring spiritual currents – served up not just by Graves on the keys, but also by Kamasi Washington on tenor, Philip Dizack on trumpet, and Ryan Porter on trombone! The three horns have a way of wrapping together as a core, then soaring to the skies – while Graves pumps up the movement with a great deal of energy, and the soloists break off on their own. The group also features bass from Thundercat on two tracks, and Hadrien Faraud on the rest – plus drums from Ronald Bruner. Graves produced – which gives the record a very different feel than other Mack Avenue releases – and titles include "Isle Of Love", "The Lucifer Rebellion", "El Diablo", "Adam & Eve", "Planetary Prince", "The End Of Corporatism", and "Satania Our Solar System". Crammed (Belgium), 2017. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $18.99 19.98
Wonderful work from the Kasai All-Stars – a group we first discovered in the Congotronics series with Konono No 1 – and who still have the same wonderful blend of raw rhythms, fuzzy distortion, and very powerful vocals! Their music has this powerfully organic vibe – with acoustic and electric elements bumping together in a fantastic way – that special sort of immediate power that really grabs you, and never asks for deeper cultural understanding as the price of admission. And the record's also got some interesting surprises too, in that a few numbers are performed by the larger Orchestra Symphonique Kimbanguiste, used in the soundtrack of which the main Kasai music is a part – versions of a few compositions by Arvo Part, which creates a heavenly juxtaposition next to the earthier numbers – with a vibe that's quite unusual, and makes the Kasai music seem even more powerful. Titles include "Kapinga Yamba", "In Praise Of Homeboys", "Tshalemba", "Mabela", "Quick As White", and "Tshitua Fuila Mbuloba". 2LP package also features some bonus remixes – including "Drowning Goat (Daedalus rmx)", "Felicite Three (Ramzi rmx)", "In Praise Of Homeboys (Africaine 808 rmx)", "Quick As White (Clap Clap rmx)", and "Salute To Kalombo (Ekiti Sound System rmx)". Trama/Luaka Bop, 2006. New Copy Gatefold ... $19.99
The long-awaited 3rd album in the trilogy of modern Brazilian grooves from the trio that's recorded under the names of Moreno Veloso and Domencio – and the first one to be issued under the name of Kassin! Following the format of the other variations in the series, Kassin takes the lead here – singing beautifully with a breathy sound that reminds us a lot of Brazilian funk recordings from the 70s – particularly the most spacious, most mellow funk of Joao Donato or Marcos Valle – both of whom seem to have a bit of influence on the sound here! Donato actually guests on Fender Rhodes on one track – and there's some other guest stars here who really keep things interesting – but the main star in the spotlight is Kassin, and he really blows our mind with the depth of his work on the set! The record's a real instant classic from Brazil – a sublime blend of electronic pop, subtle funk, and jazzy flourishes – all put together with a whole that's far greater than the sum of its parts. Genius throughout – with tracks that include "Ponto Final", "O Seu Lugar", "Esquecido", "Pra Lembrar", "Quando Nara Ri", "Agua", "Namorados", "Homem Ao Mar", "Samba Machine", and "Antes Da Chuva". US version features 4 bonus tracks – "Tranquilo (super stereo sound system)" from the Japanese pressing and "Lake Line", "Bow Road", and "Ya Ya Ya" that are only on this version. We're not sure we hear any failings at all here – as the music is completely compelling, right from the start – and one of the most sonically-intense records we've heard from reedman Mats Gustafsson in years! The album's a bit of an electro-acoustic outing – in that Mats plays tenor, baritone, bass, and slide saxophones – while Kurzmann processes his sounds, and works with the ppooll system – and even plays a rubberband and vocalizes at points! But the main crux of the record comes from the interplay between the reed sounds of Mats and electronic processing of Christof – which creates some beautiful textures and tones. Capitol, 1977. Very Good- ... $9.99
An amazing debut album from Frankie Beverly and Maze – as perfect as the group would ever sound, with an impeccable approach to both funk and ballads that put them at the top of the stack immediately! Of course, Frankie had been knocking around in indie soul obscurity for a number of years before the album came out – which is why he's so perfectly formed at the start. And like Maurice White, another soul star who spent many years woodshedding all over the place before hitting the majors, Frankie has the talent to lead the group to a unique place in the star system of soul – a unique orbit that was important to mellow soul as Earth Wind & Fire's was to funk. The record features some unbelievably amazing numbers, gems that shine again year after year, no matter where you hear them – on an AM radio, a crusty old tape in a car stereo, or bursting out of the grooves of this beautiful LP. Great ones include the sublime stepper "Happy Feelin's", the smooth mellow groover "While I'm Alone", and the tightly compressed "Look At California". LP, Vinyl record album

Cherry Red (UK), Late 80s/1990s/2000s/Early 2010s. New Copy 3CD ... $14.99
A wonderful collection of work from the always-great Momus – one of our favorite singer/songwriters of the past 40 years, a talent who really moves forward territory inspired by the work of Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg, and George Brassens – and an artist who's given us so much incredible music during his career! The set really does a great job of spanning Momus' full career – from the acoustic start of his early Cherry Red albums and singles, to the open stylistic space of his music for Creation Records – where he shifted his ear for a catchy tune and sinister storyline into some really wonderful tracks – back to his return to Cherry Red and then formation of his own label – where he's continued to explore a fantastic array of topics with his undeniable wit. And in case you're wondering – the "public intellectual" title is a bit of a joke, taken from his classic "I Was A Maoist Intellectual" track from the 80s – but it's also somewhat fitting, given the incredible depth of his songwriting (although sadly, Momus has never hit the fame he deserves – which would make him a true public intellectual.) There's so many wonderful tracks on this set, we can't even count them all – and the collection's especially great for presenting some of the later Creation material that's been very hard to get in recent years. 3CD set features a whopping 56 tracks in all – plus notes on the tunes by Momus himself – and titles that include "Spacewalk", "Enlightenment", "The Ephephobe", "Paper Wraps Rock", "Flame Into Being", "The Homosexual", "How Do You Find My Sister", "Shaftesbury Avenue", "Summer Holiday 1999", "Ventriloquists & Dolls", "Born To Be Adored", "The Age Of Information", "London 1888", "The Art Creep", "The Hiker", "System Of Usher", "Widow Twanky", "Nervous Heartbeat", and "The Cheque's In The Post". Cinevox/Finders Keepers (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy ... $14.99
A tremendous trio from the Italian soundtrack scene of the 70s – Franco Bixio, Fabio Frizzi, and Vince Tempera – all great talents on their own, but a real powerhouse of grooves when they got together on work like this! The Bixio-Fizzi-Tempera name always meant something extra-groovy on a record – either an extra-funky soundtrack with lots of weird touches, or the kind of cool Italian single that might be somewhere between sound library funk and more progressive material – a really rich array of sounds that came from the trio during their years working together in the mid 70s! This package brings together some of the best cuts from those days, with an extra special Finders Keepers/Andy Votel ear for the weirdest and most unusual sounds – which creates an album that's plenty funky, but in ways that are very different from the usual US or European styles of the time. Basslines, heavy drums, spacey keyboards, and odd guitar sounds abound – and titles include "Electronic Sound", "Avangiu", "Godzilla", "Allucinazione Mistiche", "Death's Song", "Escape", "Vai Gorilla", "Night Club Dance", "The Hunt Down", and "Concessioni Naturali". Donna SummerAll Systems Go ... LP
Geffen, 1987. Very Good+ ... $4.99
80s keyboard maestro Harold Faltermeyer gives Donna Summer plenty of help here – with the kind of catchy, hook-heavy lines that made his famous soundtrack work such a hit at the time! Harold had played on previous Summer albums, but really takes the lead here with a snapping, syncopated approach to rhythms – one that bubbles along nicely on titles that include "All Systems Go", "Dinner With Gershwin", "Only The Fool Survives", "Bad Reputation", "Love Shock", and "Jeremy". VariousSoundsystem Dubplate Specials 1975 to 1979 ... CD
Jamaican Recordings (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $13.99
A great collection of underground dub tracks from late 70s Jamaica – the kind of limited-run dub plates that would circulate between some of the bigger sound systems on the scene, and offer up radically trippy versions of better-known tunes! The set is heavy on echo and slow-stepping rhythms – and the track selection is great – with a wonderful overview of rare cuts you might not encounter anywhere else! Titles include "Exalted Dub" by Leroy Smart, "How Long Dub" by Pat Kelly, "Everybody Needs Dub" by Slim Smith, "Peace & Love In Dub" by Johnny Clarke, "Heavy Dub" by Delroy Wilson, "Thunder Rock" by Cornell Campbell, "Bag A Wire Dub" by Johnny Clarke, and "Chapter Of Money" by Horace Andy. CD features 4 bonus tracks. CD

✨✧ Bixio-Frizzi-TemperaMagnetic Systems ... CD
Cinevox/Finders Keepers (UK), Mid 70s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Atomic Bomb BandAtomic Bomb Band Performing The Music Of William Onyeabor (2017 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Luaka Bop, 2017. New Copy ... $22.99
A really fantastic album that's way better than any other tribute record we've ever heard – even though the whole thing's a tribute to the legendary William Onyeabor! Yet rather than slavishly copying Onyeabor's music, the group here take off in so many new directions – many of them very funky and filled with even more acoustic touches than in the original versions of the songs – including some great sax and trumpet lines that really give the music some depth. The group features a huge array of all-stars – members of LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, Sinkane, and The Beastie Boys – but this also isn't some project where big names are just phoning it in, as there's a very unified vibe that seems to bring out the best in everyone – including folks we might not even like in another context. Jamie Lidell sings on a few cuts, Money Mark plays keyboards on the record, and even the great Charles Lloyd delivers two great tenor solos – on titles that include "Poor Boy", "Love Is Blind", "Fantastic Man", "Good Name", "Heaven & Hell", and "Love Me Now". Fantastic fold-out cover design too! LP, Vinyl record album

Cut Chemist/MadlibBunky's Pick (7 Minutes & 48 Seconds Of Funk)/6 Variations Of In The Rain ... 12-inch
Stones Throw, 2001. Very Good+ (pic cover)... Just Sold Out!
Funky mad work from Cut Chemist and Madlib – with a sound that's right off of a classic funky 45, filtered through a South Bronx soundsystem! "6 Variations Of In The Rain" is based around Billy Wooten's famous jazz vibes version of The Dramatics cut "In The Rain" – and it takes the tune, turns it around, opens it up, and creates this amazing long tapestry of beats and vibes! "Bunky's Pick" picks its title from the star on the old singles produced by Bill Bunky Sheppard – and it mixes together drum breaks with a classic sound, creating seven minutes and forty eight seconds of heavy funky breaks! Ground breaking stuff – and another feather in the cap of the soon-to-be-legendary Stones Throw label! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ DJ ShadowMountain Has Fallen EP (with download) ... LP
Mass Appeal, 2017. New Copy ... $15.99 16.98
The always inspired, never predictable DJ Shadow pushing creative boundaries and inspiring disparate, equally amazing guests on the ambitious The Mountain Has Fallen EP! He gets assists from top notch hip hop mic masters both legendary and contemporary in Nas and Danny Brown – plus modern legend film score composer Steven Price on a track – showing a pretty incredible stylistic reach on just a 4 track EP! The closer "Corridors" with Steven Price is a real late model DJ Shadow standout, combining some of the moodier aspects that have always been integral to Shadow productions with all the more depth via Price's orchestral flourishes. "Systematic" is straight up top shelf hip hop with Nas, "Horror Show" is that too, catered nicely to Danny Brown's distinctive voice, and "Good News" is a spacey, bouncy, jittery and uber-compelling instrumental. YazzWanted (3CD deluxe edition – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Elektra/Cherry Pop (UK), 1988. New Copy 3CD ... $13.99
A standout solo moment for Yazz – the singer who first rose to fame as part of the Coldcut soundsystem, then really broke big at a point when UK soul was cracking the American mainstream! Yazz may have a bleached-out look on the cover, but her sound is deeply soulful – and fits in perfectly with the house-styled grooves on the record – backings that have an unabashed love of disco, at a time when listening audiences were maybe forgiving that music for all of its previous excesses, and strongly embracing its best qualities again – in a groove that's maybe a bit similar to Lisa Stansfield at the time, although with more beats and less strings. Production and backings are by Coldcut, FON, Youth, and other hip talents – and titles include her great remake of "The Only Way Is Up" – plus "Systematic People", "Wanted On The Floor", "Stand Up For Your Love Rights", "Fine Time", "Where Has All The Love Gone", "Got To Share", and "Turn It Up". Amazing 3CD package features a massive 32 bonus tracks – including all the material from the Wanted Remixes album, plus loads of other remixes from 12" singles of the period! CD

VariousCoxone's Music 2 – The Sound Of Young Jamaica - More Early Cuts From The Vaults Of Studio One 1959 to 1963 ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy 2 CDs ... $16.99 22.99
A fantastic overview of sounds from the Jamaican scene in the years before rocksteady and ska really took off – most of them from the hands of groundbreaking producer Clement "Coxone" Dodd – later the driving force behind Studio One! In these early years, Dodd already had very close ties to the local scene – first as a DJ who was bringing in underground R&B sides from the US, to play on his 50s soundsystem – and also as a record store owner, with a very strong ear for new talent! Yet although Dodd's later sounds have been really well documented, these earliest recordings are perhaps even more amazing – as they showcase a really great range of styles, and present a Jamaican musical world in which the new ideas were just getting started, and taking on modes that sometimes feel very American, other times feel as if they're in a very individual space that doesn't even have any ska or blue beat touches. There's even a bit of jazz in the mix at times, which is great – and throughout the collection's 41 titles, there's an undeniable richness of Jamaican talent that would have already been huge, even if the scene didn't explode in later years. Titles include "More Proof" by Clancy Eccles, "Get Drunk" by Owen Gray, "Jerk Pork" by Roland Alphonso & His Alley Cats, "Cuban Blockade" by Don Drummond, "Little Lady" by Theophilus Beckford with Clue J & His City Slickers, "Exodus" by Jazz Jamaica, Don't Do It" by Bunny & Scully, "Six & Seven Books Of Moses" by The Maytals, "Peanut Vendor" by Tommy McCook, "Mighty Man" by Higgs & Wilson, "Creation" by Lascelles Perkins, "Mr Propman" by Jazz Jamaica From The Workshop, "Light Of My Life" by Mellow Larks, and "Grand National" by Down Beat All Stars. ✨✧ VariousI-Robots – Italo Electro Disco Underground Classics ... CD
Irma (Italy), Early 80s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A great look at an oft-neglected chapter of underground club – the excellent electronic work coming out of Italy in the early 80s! The Italian approach to the music was certainly influenced by the sounds of New York, German, and England at the time – but it also had its own flavor – a kind of unabashed love of the dancefloor, and a subtle hope that disco would someday come again! The grooves on the set are all spare and electronic, but also quite infectious – with a really strong focus on the hook, and a stripped-down sound that somehow makes them even more compelling. Titles include "Robot Is Systematic" by Letric Workers, "Dance Boy Dance" by Alexander Robotnick, "Stranger In A Strange Land (club)" by NOIA, "Collision (rmx)" by Sphinx, "Pinguins Invasion (hot version)" by Scotch, "Plastic Doll (rmx inst)" by Dharma, "Walking In The Neon (club)" by Peter Richard, "Wonderful (inst)" by Klein & MBO, "I Need Love (inst)" by Capricorn, and "Spacer Woman (voc)" by Charlie. ✨✧ Dazz BandJoystick/Jukebox ... CD
Motown/FTG, 1983/1984. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The Dazz Band brilliantly modernizes their sound for the early-to-mid 80s – without sacrificing the funk one bit on a pair of later Motown albums – '83's Joystick and '84's Jukebox in a single set! As you might guess from the title, on Joystick, Dazz Band thumps and pulses things into a style that's electro and computer groove aware. That said, their background in midwestern funky 70s soul is hardwired into their systems and they bridge the eras masterfully! Titles include "To The Roof", "Joystick", "Until You", "Rock With Me", "Now That I Have You" and more. On Jukebox, the Dazz Band hit hard with that catchy, synth-heavy groove that marks their other solid Motown work! The album's got all the catchy pop elements you might guess from the time – not as classically funky as the group in their roots, with lots of emphasis on the keyboards and guitar – that crossover Motown soul mode of the mid 80s. Titles include "So Much Love", "Dream Girl", "She's The One", "Heartbeat", "Let It All Blow", "Undercover Lover", and "Main Attraction". CD
