Central Nervous SystemI Could Have Danced All Night ... LP
Music Factory, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... $11.99
Hard rocking late 60s work with a bit of a bluesy touch – a lot heavier sounding than you'd expect from the title! Some of the tunes are slow and plodding, led by a stepping electric bass – and a few others break out with a bit more horn flourishes that add a nice element. Titles include "Sweet Hot Lucy", "I'm My Own Keeper", "I'm Undecided", "Welcome Back Girl", "It's So Hard", "She's Everything Good To Me", and "Mystery Lady". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Dead MoonCrack In The System ... LP
Mississippi, 1994. New Copy (reissue)... $11.99
A timeless treasure from Dead Moon – a record that could have been made as far back as the late 70s scene in New York, or the mid 80s in the UK, or even in the recent American underground – but which stands as one of the key primal offering from this 90s Portland trio! The music wraps up so many different lost strands of guitar-based influence – garagey bits, punky bits, and folksy bits – all with a style that's never posturing, but almost has the emotional power of early Replacements at their best. Titles include "It's OK", "The Deadline", "Too Far Gone", "Cast Will Change", "Poor Born", and "Two Fell Away". LP, Vinyl record album

Thrill Jockey, 2006. Used ... $2.99
A partnership between US indie guitarists Ian Egelson and Alex Minoff of Golden – with Onyango Wuod Omari and the late Otieno Jagwasi of Nairobi based benga band Orchestra Extra Solar Africa – for an lightly funky, deeply melodic blend of hypnotic tunes! It's a true partnership – jumping back and forth between what each side brings of their own sounds – with the distinctions blending surprisingly well! Titles include "Ilando Gima Onge", "It's Not Easy", "OK-Oyot System", "Osama Rach", "Tussin And Fightin'" and "Nyajondere. Initial copies come with a DVD – OK-Oyot System guitarist Otieno Jagqwasi performing live in Nairobi! CD

Fela & Egypt 80Underground System/Confusion Break Bones (CBB) ... CD
Wrasse, 1990/1992. Used ... $5.99
Late Fela – but great Fela! Underground System was released in 1992, but it sounds like Fela's best work from the late 70s – grooving away at a triple-time beat on two incredible tracks, "Underground System" and "Pansa Pansa". "Pansa Pansa" is especially great, as it's got these Cecil Taylor-esque piano lines over funky beats at the beginning – very odd, but very groovy! The CD also features the 26 minute bonus track "Confusion Break Bones", lifted from the ODOO album, and a compelling extended number with a weirdly off-kilter beat! CD

✨✧ LTJ XperienceDon't Let The System Get You Down ... CD
Irma (Italy), 2016. New Copy ... $14.99
LTJ Experience started out as one of the few great Italian club artists to carry forward the disco sound of the glory years into the final decade of the last century – and since that time, he's just continued to evolve his sound – to a point where he comes across here with a wonderfully lean, clean groove that's quite far from his roots! The album's very spare in presentation – hardly any information, save for a list of song titles and bpm notations – and LTJ's got the same approach in his music – really focusing on a few key elements for each cut, but building things up in a way that still manages to hold onto some warmer funk currents as well – that sense of soul we've always loved in his music from the start. Titles include "Walking Groove", "To The Disco", "Inside Groove", "Black Machine", "Up & Go", "I'll Never Change Up On You", "Slow Fire", "Feel Inside", and "Don't Let The System Get You Down". CD

Peter SchillingError In The System ... LP
Elektra, 1983. Near Mint- ... $7.99
An 80s electro-pop classic from Peter Schilling – one of a handful of German artists who managed to crack the record racks over here at the time – thanks to his strong use of English language on most of the tracks, and his classic "Major Tom" track, which was a nice reference to Bowie's "Space Oddity"! There's a nicely catchy vibe to the record – not as commercial as Nena, but more straightforward than Trio – although very much in the territory of both, given the way that Schilling uses spare electric rhythms and keyboards on most of the instrumentation. In addition to the two-part version of "Major Tom (Coming Home)", other titles include "Only Dreams", "Lifetime Guarantee", "I Have No Desire", "Let's Play", "Error In The System", and "The Noah Plan". SystemSweat (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Mirage/FTG, 1983. New Copy ... $13.99 14.98
The big breakout record for The System – one of the key soul crossover duos of the 80s! By the time of the record, electric instrumentation and studio technology had evolved to a point where a team like Mic Murphy and David Frank could put together a whole mainstream funk record like this on their own – and audiences too were a bit more open to accepting a world of overdubs and multi-track recording, and didn't need the 10-piece lineup of some of those late 70s groups to help them find their groove! The standout number here is the huge single "You Are In My System" – a cut that's wonderful in its simplicity, and somehow even better all these many years later, which it seems like less of a commercial crossover track than it did before. Other tracks follow a similar groove, and titles include "Sweat", "It's Passion", "Now I Am Electric", "Stand Up & Cheer", and "I Won't Let Go". This expanded version combines the original album with six bonus extended remixes – including "Promises Can Break", "This Is For You", and "Don't Disturb This Groove". CD

Deep, soulful grooves from the Ron Trent – balancing soul jazz-steeped moods with club groove atmosphere! "Liquid Love" pairs some dexterous keyboard grooves over some fairly thick beats, lightened just a bit by some airy synth and textural bits of vocal – especially in the tune's reprise that closes the side. "Sound System Prevail" brings back the percussive edge, again with some sweeter bits of keys and synth. 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Coolin SystemRefrigerate After Opening (with download) ... LP
GED Soul, 2014. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
No need to refrigerate this great little set – as room temperature's only going to make the whole thing even funkier over time! The Coolin System are hotter than ever here – not only tighter on the instrumental tip than we remember, but also picking up some much deeper influences from the 60s – including a touch of trumpet inspiration from Blue Mitchell, killer keyboards from Cedar Walton, and a blast of Brazilian funk from Som Tres! These guys use all the best elements to rework a small combo funky sound way past the usual – and the all-instrumental set unfurls some sweet lines on Fender Rhodes, Hammond, trumpet, tenor, and flute – on cuts that include "Beyond Mobius", "Homenagem A Mongo", "Blue Juice", "Soul Village", "Funky Mule", "Soul Thing", and "Jungle Juice". A very cool album that presents Cage at the height of his "chance" composition stage – featuring him with David Tudor weaving an eclectic mix sounds on a sound system – recorded live at the Feigen-Palmer Gallery in LA! The work is the kind of stuff you always hear about with Cage, but can't find that easily on record. Columbia, 1987. Very Good ... $1.99
Earth Wind & Fire touch the world with this sweet batch of grooves – a set of tracks that has them firmly embracing the electric sound of 80s soul, yet still bringing in some light spiritual touches of their own! The beats are pretty heavy at points – making for plenty of groovers – but the group almost seems to shine most on the ballads, which continue to provide a perfect showcase for the vocals of Philip Bailey and Maurice White. A few cool studio touches reference the group's earlier history – a nice reminder amidst the more contemporary sounds – and titles include "You & I", "System Of Survival", "Every Now & Then", "Money Tight", "Here Today & Gone Tomorrow", "Victim Of The Modern Heart", and "Thinking Of You". Christian Hermann & Michael SchmidtWii Love Arts – A Compendium Of Projects Inspired By Wii (hardcover) ... Book

Nintendo's Wii gaming system has gone onto transform the role of the TV screen in household activity in the past decade or so – with a legacy that's also touched the world of visual arts as well! This book is a lavish, oversized art book that presents a range of creative work inspired by the Wii – paintings, photographs, drawings, street art, and even creative process that draw plenty from Wii and help transform the planet with an eye trained on the platform! Images are quite far from any sort of easy videogame references – and the full color book vividly moves far far past any Nintendo roots – and almost acts as a standalone volume on especially creative talents in the global underground. Book is very heavy, full color, 224 pages, oversize, and even comes with a special bookmark that's like the handle of a Wii controller! Book

✨✧ Mable JohnStay Out Of The Kitchen ... CD
Stax (UK), Late 60s. New Copy ... $11.99 18.99
Amazing under-discovered soul – a huge collection of late 60s recordings by Mable John – probably best known for her work with the Raelettes, or her earlier sides at Motown – but heard here in a pivotal time between those two chapters in her career! A few of the tracks on the set were issued as singles by Stax, but most of the material sat unissued for years – practically one of the greatest crimes in soul in the 60s, because there's a depth here that's tremendous – and a quality level that could have made Mable a huge star at the time. The sound here is pure 60s Stax all the way – extremely deep, and done with a lean, mean punch that's totally great – a perfect meeting of a massive vocal talent and a well-oiled studio system that could take a good singer and make her sound great! The set's a great introduction to Mable's genius – one that features notes on her career and a total of 26 rare tracks that include "Have Your Cake", "Sweet Devil", "Able Mable", "Stay Out of the Kitchen", "Drop On In", and "I'm Catching". Led ZeppelinPresence ... LP
Swan Song/Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint- Gatefold ... $16.99
Overlooked genius from Led Zeppelin – an album that was missed by many the first time around, because of it's tight focus and simplicity! For the set, the group step back just a bit from their more stylistically sprawling tendencies – almost as if they got some of the more ambitious ideas out of their system with Physical Graffiti, or simply wanted to get out there and kick some ass – a back to basics move, and one that sees some tremendous guitar work from Jimmy Page! The album still has some longer songs and complicated changes – this is Led Zeppelin, after all – and the lack of over-played classic rock radio fodder actually makes this one a better listen nowadays than the more iconic albums. Includes "Achilles Last Stand", "For Your Life", "Nobody's Fault But Mine", "Candy Store Rock", "Hots On For Nowhere", and "Tea For One". LP, Vinyl record album

MomusPublic Intellectual – An Anthology 1986 to 2016 (3CD set) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), Late 80s/1990s/2000s/Early 2010s. New Copy 3CD ... $19.99
A wonderful collection of work from the always-great Momus – one of our favorite singer/songwriters of the past 40 years, a talent who really moves forward territory inspired by the work of Jacques Brel, Serge Gainsbourg, and George Brassens – and an artist who's given us so much incredible music during his career! The set really does a great job of spanning Momus' full career – from the acoustic start of his early Cherry Red albums and singles, to the open stylistic space of his music for Creation Records – where he shifted his ear for a catchy tune and sinister storyline into some really wonderful tracks – back to his return to Cherry Red and then formation of his own label – where he's continued to explore a fantastic array of topics with his undeniable wit. And in case you're wondering – the "public intellectual" title is a bit of a joke, taken from his classic "I Was A Maoist Intellectual" track from the 80s – but it's also somewhat fitting, given the incredible depth of his songwriting (although sadly, Momus has never hit the fame he deserves – which would make him a true public intellectual.) There's so many wonderful tracks on this set, we can't even count them all – and the collection's especially great for presenting some of the later Creation material that's been very hard to get in recent years. 3CD set features a whopping 56 tracks in all – plus notes on the tunes by Momus himself – and titles that include "Spacewalk", "Enlightenment", "The Ephephobe", "Paper Wraps Rock", "Flame Into Being", "The Homosexual", "How Do You Find My Sister", "Shaftesbury Avenue", "Summer Holiday 1999", "Ventriloquists & Dolls", "Born To Be Adored", "The Age Of Information", "London 1888", "The Art Creep", "The Hiker", "System Of Usher", "Widow Twanky", "Nervous Heartbeat", and "The Cheque's In The Post". Okki NokkiOkki Nokki Record Cleaning Machine RCM II (black) ... Turntable
Okki Nokki (Netherlands), New Item ... $449.99 499.99
Ever wonder how we get our records so clean at Dusty Groove? Well, it's because we've been using a record cleaning machine for years, and we'll swear by it always as the best way to clean up those old albums you find while diggin' through the crates. The long-tested system is in place with record dealers, collectors, and audiophiles everywhere – and it's even used by the Smithsonian Institute for the albums they have in their archive! The process is simple, but extremely effective: the record is bathed in a special fluid, scrubbed by a special brush to loosen all dirt and debris, and then the whole thing's vacuumed up to remove the fluid dirt and all! We know the machine's a bit pricey, and we balked a bit when we bought our first one. Now, though, we own 3 of them, and we think every penny was very well spent. We can't recommend the machine highly enough, and if you ever need a demonstration, just look at one of the very clean records you've bought from us! Comes with basic unit, power cord, brush, and fluid for cleaning a big amount of records. (The shipping price will be a bit more than usual, and we'll give you a quote when you order, but at least you won't have to pay sales tax on the whole thing.) Turntable

VariousBambara Mystic Soul – The Raw Sound Of Burkina Faso 1974 to 1979 ... CD
Analog Africa (Germany), Mid 70s. Used ... $11.99
Raw sound, indeed – and possibly one of the most hard-hitting compilations so far from the Analog Africa label! There's a quality here that's mighty fresh, and which shows us that there's still plenty of African nuggets to find, if you know where to dig! Much of the music has a dark, moody quality that's really striking – still the grooves you'd expect, but an exotic undercurrent that's almost like Ethiopian music – although very much it's own vibe too! The mix is really wonderful, and makes these tracks from Burkina Faso a rich musical discovery – one that's very thoughtfully put together by the Analog Africa label, with their usual strong attention to sound and detailed notes – not to mention a very handsome package. Titles include " Kabendo" by Konde Mangue, "Sie Koumgolo" by Coulibaly Tidini, "Rog Mik Africa" by Orchestre CVD, "Kodjougou" by Abdoulaye Ciess, "Dambakale" by Compaore Issouf, "Tink Tank" by Afro Soul System, "Love Music & Dance" by Mamo Lagbema, and "Johnny" by Amadou Ballake Et Super Volta. The 80s were a huge decade for the 12" single – with a shift at the start of the decade to really unlock the possibilities in the format, to a move near the 90s where the format was virtually a standalone record itself – sometimes more important than full length albums by some artists! This set brings together loads of important tracks from that moment – music that begins in early 80s club, and moves through towards that time when a lot more American house was influencing the groove, and when producers had more than enough new technology on their hands to really open up a tune! Trama/Luaka Bop, 2006. New Copy ... On November 11, 2016
The long-awaited 3rd album in the trilogy of modern Brazilian grooves from the trio that's recorded under the names of Moreno Veloso and Domencio – and the first one to be issued under the name of Kassin! Following the format of the other variations in the series, Kassin takes the lead here – singing beautifully with a breathy sound that reminds us a lot of Brazilian funk recordings from the 70s – particularly the most spacious, most mellow funk of Joao Donato or Marcos Valle – both of whom seem to have a bit of influence on the sound here! Donato actually guests on Fender Rhodes on one track – and there's some other guest stars here who really keep things interesting – but the main star in the spotlight is Kassin, and he really blows our mind with the depth of his work on the set! The record's a real instant classic from Brazil – a sublime blend of electronic pop, subtle funk, and jazzy flourishes – all put together with a whole that's far greater than the sum of its parts. Genius throughout – with tracks that include "Ponto Final", "O Seu Lugar", "Esquecido", "Pra Lembrar", "Quando Nara Ri", "Agua", "Namorados", "Homem Ao Mar", "Samba Machine", and "Antes Da Chuva". US version features 4 bonus tracks – "Tranquilo (super stereo sound system)" from the Japanese pressing and "Lake Line", "Bow Road", and "Ya Ya Ya" that are only on this version. A modern minimalist watershed and though a bit academic, still pretty darn beautiful! This early instrumental release was the first time that Eno really explored his farther-reaching ideas on record. The set features 2 pieces: "Discreet Music", a long work that relies on a simple system of delay and recall, with slight variations occurring over the space of time, due to slight occasional interference from the composer; and "Three Variations On The Cannon In D Major By Johann Pachelbel", which works along similar lines, taking this very familiar classical theme, and breaking it down into simple components, which are then interwoven and played in repetition, creating a strange little bit of romantic minimalism. Verve, 2008. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A tremendous step forward for Jazzanova – an album that's overflowing with classic soul touches, and done in a style we'd hardly have expected from the group a few years before! Jazzanova have always had an ear for older sounds in their music – which is something that first set them apart from the dancefloor pack – but this album's a really amazing achievement, and one that's put together with the solid sound of some lost late 60s sessions from Motown at points – or with some of the cooler sounds of European jazz of the 70s! There's still a 21st Century vibe to the music – a bit of crackle here and there that marks it as contemporary – but the backings also have tight orchestrations, occasional strings, and that perfectly put-together quality that still makes us marvel at old soul and jazz records after all these years. Vocals are sublime too – as the album features contributions from Phonte, Paul Randolph, Ben Westbeech, Jose James, Dwele, Bembe Segue, and Leon Ware – all of whom fit in perfectly, without any of the sort of random "vocals with sound system" feel you might get in another album of this type. Most tracks are co-written with the vocalist – which is an even hipper touch that ensures a depth of quality – and titles include "Gafiera", "Lucky Girl", "Little Bird", "I Can See", "Look What You're Doin To Me", "Let Me Show Ya", "Lie", and "So Far From Home" – plus a great cover of "Rockin You Eternally". ✨✧ VariousBambara Mystic Soul – The Raw Sound Of Burkina Faso 1974 to 1979 ... LP
Analog Africa (Germany), Mid 70s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Titles include "Kabendo" by Konde Mangue, "Sie Koumgolo" by Coulibaly Tidini, "Rog Mik Africa" by Orchestre CVD, "Kodjougou" by Abdoulaye Ciess, "Dambakale" by Compaore Issouf, "Tink Tank" by Afro Soul System, "Love Music & Dance" by Mamo Lagbema, and "Johnny" by Amadou Ballake Et Super Volta. Bixio-Frizzi-TemperaMagnetic Systems ... LP
Cinevox/Finders Keepers (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy ... $22.99
A tremendous trio from the Italian soundtrack scene of the 70s – Franco Bixio, Fabio Frizzi, and Vince Tempera – all great talents on their own, but a real powerhouse of grooves when they got together on work like this! The Bixio-Fizzi-Tempera name always meant something extra-groovy on a record – either an extra-funky soundtrack with lots of weird touches, or the kind of cool Italian single that might be somewhere between sound library funk and more progressive material – a really rich array of sounds that came from the trio during their years working together in the mid 70s! This package brings together some of the best cuts from those days, with an extra special Finders Keepers/Andy Votel ear for the weirdest and most unusual sounds – which creates an album that's plenty funky, but in ways that are very different from the usual US or European styles of the time. Basslines, heavy drums, spacey keyboards, and odd guitar sounds abound – and titles include "Electronic Sound", "Avangiu", "Godzilla", "Allucinazione Mistiche", "Death's Song", "Escape", "Vai Gorilla", "Night Club Dance", "The Hunt Down", and "Concessioni Naturali". Dazz BandJoystick/Jukebox ... CD
Motown/FTG, 1983/1984. New Copy ... $13.99 14.98
The Dazz Band brilliantly modernizes their sound for the early-to-mid 80s – without sacrificing the funk one bit on a pair of later Motown albums – '83's Joystick and '84's Jukebox in a single set! As you might guess from the title, on Joystick, Dazz Band thumps and pulses things into a style that's electro and computer groove aware. That said, their background in midwestern funky 70s soul is hardwired into their systems and they bridge the eras masterfully! Titles include "To The Roof", "Joystick", "Until You", "Rock With Me", "Now That I Have You" and more. On Jukebox, the Dazz Band hit hard with that catchy, synth-heavy groove that marks their other solid Motown work! The album's got all the catchy pop elements you might guess from the time – not as classically funky as the group in their roots, with lots of emphasis on the keyboards and guitar – that crossover Motown soul mode of the mid 80s. Titles include "So Much Love", "Dream Girl", "She's The One", "Heartbeat", "Let It All Blow", "Undercover Lover", and "Main Attraction". CD

Billy GriffinSystematic ... CD
Columbia/PTG (Netherlands), 1985. New Copy ... $18.99
The third album in Billy Griffin's great run after leaving The Miracles – and a set that features some especially nice help from mellow groove maestro Leon Ware! Ware brings a depth to the record that takes it way past Billy's outdated look on the cover – that trademark ear for a killer midtempo groove that few other songwriters or producers could match – and which proves to be just the right setting for Billy's beautiful vocals! Instrumentation is heavy on beats and keyboards, with a definite electro approach – but there's a warmth here that goes way past the setting, both vocally and in the way the tunes come across. Titles include a remake of "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" – plus "Can't Keep Running Away", "This Ain't Puppy Love", "Electrified", "Systematic", "Everybody Needs Somebody", and "Waiting To Touch". CD

King TubbyKing Tubby Vs Channel One – Dub Soundclash ... CD
Jamaican Recordings (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy ... $13.99
Heavy dubs from two classic sources – King Tubby's studios and Channel One – served up here in a special soundclash session from Bunny Lee and Jah Stich! The tunes here are nicely abstracted and expanded – laid out back to back in one swirling mass of heady sounds that seems especially heavy on the bass – so much so that our speakers were rumbling off the shelf while we were writing up this review! Exactly the kind of tracks that would have set fire to a streetside soundsystem back in the day – but equally great served up here for at-home listening too. Titles include "Another Extra From The King", "Channel 1 Feel This", "Musical Shock Attack Channel One", "More Of King Tubby's Scientist Sound Call Earthquake", "Be Channel 1 Guest", "King Tubby & Scientist Is Here To Stay", and "Straight To King Tubby & Channel 1 Head". Lack Of AfroHello Baby ... CD
Loa (UK), 2016. New Copy ... $11.99
Lack Of Afro really seems to have tightened up his game – realizing that more can come from less – especially when it's focused on a sound this strong! Gone are some of the tricks and turns you might know from the LOA of years back – especially some of the mixes that circulated under that name – and instead, the album's got this solid soulful vibe that feels more like a deep funk combo, than a set of tracks that come mostly from the hands of producer/instrumentalist Adam Gibbons! Yet while Gibbons plays much of the music on the set, he's also got some help from other funk players, too – and singers who include Joss Stone, Elliott Cole, Emma Noble, and Juliette Ashby – who help emphasize some of the more retro soul elements in the music, but with the collaborative vibe of singers in a soundsystem. Titles include "Hello Baby", "I Got The Rhythm", "Nothing Personal", "Take You Home", "One World", "The Bakery Girl", "Now I Feel Good", "Walk In The Sun", and "Peace & Love". CD

Lee Scratch Perry & FriendsBlack Ark Years – The Jamaican 7 Inches ... CD
Trojan (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy 2 CDs ... $16.99
Some of the greatest work ever recorded by the mighty Lee Perry – a searing selection of 44 seven inch singles – all of which were well-tuned to boom out of Kingston sound systems back in the day! There's a sense of focus here that's wonderful – still all the odd, dubby twists and turns that make Perry's music so great – but honed down into the space of tight cuts that really helped redefine the role of the 45rpm single in Jamaican music! Lee takes the lead on a few cuts, and sits behind the controls of Black Ark on all the others – and titles include "Vibrate Onn (Jamaican mix)" by Augustus Pablo & The Upsetters, "It Hurts So Good" by Susan Cadogan, "Dreader Locks" by Junior Byles & Lee Perry, "Police & Thief" by Junior Murvin, "Ital Corner" by Prince Jazzbo, "Sipple Out Deh (Jamaican mix)" by Max Romeo, "Down Here In Babylon" by Brent Dowe, "Three Blind Mice" by Max Romeo, "Land Of Love" by The Sons Of Light, "Travelling" by Debra Keese & The Black Five, and "Think So" by The Meditations. VariousCoxone's Music 2 – The Sound Of Young Jamaica - More Early Cuts From The Vaults Of Studio One 1959 to 1963 ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... $19.99
A fantastic overview of sounds from the Jamaican scene in the years before rocksteady and ska really took off – most of them from the hands of groundbreaking producer Clement "Coxone" Dodd – later the driving force behind Studio One! In these early years, Dodd already had very close ties to the local scene – first as a DJ who was bringing in underground R&B sides from the US, to play on his 50s soundsystem – and also as a record store owner, with a very strong ear for new talent! Yet although Dodd's later sounds have been really well documented, these earliest recordings are perhaps even more amazing – as they showcase a really great range of styles, and present a Jamaican musical world in which the new ideas were just getting started, and taking on modes that sometimes feel very American, other times feel as if they're in a very individual space that doesn't even have any ska or blue beat touches. There's even a bit of jazz in the mix at times, which is great – and throughout the collection's 41 titles, there's an undeniable richness of Jamaican talent that would have already been huge, even if the scene didn't explode in later years. Titles include "More Proof" by Clancy Eccles, "Get Drunk" by Owen Gray, "Jerk Pork" by Roland Alphonso & His Alley Cats, "Cuban Blockade" by Don Drummond, "Little Lady" by Theophilus Beckford with Clue J & His City Slickers, "Exodus" by Jazz Jamaica, Don't Do It" by Bunny & Scully, "Six & Seven Books Of Moses" by The Maytals, "Peanut Vendor" by Tommy McCook, "Mighty Man" by Higgs & Wilson, "Creation" by Lascelles Perkins, "Mr Propman" by Jazz Jamaica From The Workshop, "Light Of My Life" by Mellow Larks, and "Grand National" by Down Beat All Stars. Clocktower, 1975. New Copy (reissue)... About October 7, 2016
Truly one of the most essential reggae albums of all time, and without a doubt one of our top dub albums. While we may be known for our hyperbolic comments on LPs here at Dusty, this album is very much deserving of the praise, and if you don't own it, you need to. Basically a collection of dubs of rhythms for some of Pablo's most popular productions as vocal cuts on 45s that had rocked the sound systems, this set features a mighty rockers rhythm team and mixing courtesy Errol Thompson and King Tubby. All solid tracks. Includes "Keep On Dubbing", "Stop Them Jah", "Young Generation Dub", "Each One Dub", "555 Dub Street", "Braces Tower Dub", "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown", "Corner Crew Dub", "Say So", "Skanking Dub" "Satta Dub" and "Frozen Dub". Marge (France), 2001. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The group name's a bit mysterious, but we can say that these guys definitely have an open approach to their music – one that really allows a lot of flow from the trumpet of Hugh Ragin, and the tenor and bass clarinet of Assif Tsahar! The group come together as a piano-less quartet – with Peter Kowald on bass and Hamid Drake on drums and percussion – a wonderful lineup who take the music into richer, freer directions as well – with some especially strong contributions from Kowald and Drake! It's been awhile since we've heard Peter's bass in a setting this bold – and the result is wonderful – and Hamid is pretty fierce at times on the drums, although other moments feature some of his more lyrical percussion passages. Titles include a great long take on Ornette's "Lonely Woman" – plus "The Call", "Dream Weavers", "Standing Motion", "Fathers & Mothers", and "The Lizards In The Maze". CD

Pressure Sounds (UK), Mid 70s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A wealth of unreleased tracks and unreleased mixes from the studios of the mighty Lee Scratch Perry – material that was mostly recorded during a very fruitful time in the mid 70s, when Lee was turning out a fair bit of tracks that were only issued on one-off dub plates, to be spun by only the hippest sound systems in Kingston and London! Material of this nature is often nicely offbeat – no easy hooks or more commercial elements, and instead the kind of creative approach to overall sound that makes every aspect of a tune worth opening up into play – from the vocals to the rhythms, to the production. Titles include "Ethiopia Land" by Peter & Paul, "Lay Beside You" by Joy White, "Jah I" by Lee Perry & The Upsetters, "Word (acapella)" by The Gatherers, "War & Peace" by The Upsetters, "Keep On Moving" by Augustus Pablo & The Upsetters, "Keep On Trying" by Susan & Bunny", and "Living My Life" by Keith Rowe & The Upsetters. Soul Jazz (UK), 2012. New Copy Book ... Out Of Stock
The most massive book of record art we've ever stocked – and a groundbreaking look at the art of reggae 45s, put together by the folks at Soul Jazz Records! Albums are usually featured in a book like this, but the authors do a great job of illustrating the diversity of 45 labels on the Jamaican scene – the wealth of designs and colors that make collecting reggae 45s a past time that's almost as pleasing from a visual perspective as it is from an audio one! Plus, given the obscurity of most of these records, the book's even more valuable – a much-needed record of these small pressings that never got much distribution – laid out here in beautiful full color images. The book is super-heavy, with a cool cover that's between a hardcover and soft cover – and almost 500 pages of images throughout! Book
