A lively little groover from the Sugarhill Gang – one based around the excellent "Daisy Lady" sample from 7th Wonder! The track makes great use of the original's brassy horns – inflecting a bright, almost Latiny finish on the tune – all to set the stage for some great rhymes from the crew! 12-inch, Vinyl record
We're not entirely certain if this is the same Jocko's as the one who cut "Rhythm talk" for Philly International a few years earlier, but this cut's in the same bag, with a bouncing commercial early 80s sound, not unlike Sugarhill Gang or Whodini. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(White label promo, in a promo Sugar Hill sleeve.)
Early single from old school pioneer Busy B. With that live/party sound along the lines of Grandmaster Flash's "Birthday Party." The production has a little less of the 'slap bass' sound than some of the other Sugarhill singles from that time. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in a Sugar Hill sleeve. Label on Side B is double layered and bubbly.)
The "showdown...all the way live between the Sugarhill gang and the Furious Five". A nice early Furious Five cut that someone has sampled recently. And while were not the biggest Sugarhill Gang fans, they do alright on this cut with the Furious Five, who we suspect actually wrote the Sugarhill Gang's rhymes on this one. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(In a Sugar Hill sleeve, with some aging and a cut corner. Label on Side B has a sticker spot.)
The Furious Five's tribute to your zodiac sign. A guaranteed party rocker that's been sampled and cut into more tracks and mixes than we can count. . . 12-inch, Vinyl record
The follow up to "The Message", and another classic early 80s number from Grandmaster Flash and crew. Once again, the theme is the trials of city life, and once again, they come up with another winning message cut. 12-inch, Vinyl record
The original message rhyme, or at least the biggest one of its day, a track that would spawn a lot of imitiations, including more than a handful of followups from the Furious 5 and Melle Mel. 12-inch, Vinyl record
One of the best Sequence singles, with the classic old school live-in-the-studio feel to the vocals and the early SugarHill backing band throughout the 8 minute track. Plus some added verses from Spoonie Gee. 12-inch, Vinyl record
The title song from one of the early hip hop movie classics! The track's an ode to the film's slain graffitti writer Raheim, and one of the last dope Melle Mel/Furious Five tracks. 12-inch, Vinyl record
One of our favorite tracks from the early 80s, with a sort of beeping, bouncing good time boogie track and back and forth rhymes from the Crash Crew over top. 12-inch, Vinyl record
(White label promo in a grey Sugar Hill sleeve.)

Carver Area High School/Carver Seniors Class Of 83 —
Get Live 83/Carver Senior Song ... 12-inch Challenger/Soul Jazz (UK), 1982. New Copy (pic cover, reissue)...
$9.9919.99
A high school record, but also one of the first hip hop singles to come out of Chicago! Given that in the early 80s, Chi-town was still focusing mostly on soul (and soon, house), the Windy City was way behind New York in terms of hip hop production – and most early rap efforts came out as novelty tunes by local personalities. But this little gem has a surprising level of quality – simple old school backings at best, copping a Sugarhill groove from the start – but some nicely scripted lyrics from a number of Carver High School seniors, presented in a way that's a bit more staid than the usual east coast single – but still quite nice! The flipside has a mellower cut – a cool "Senior Song" that's done like some laidback 80s R&B ballad, but with a more youthful vocal approach. 12-inch, Vinyl record
