Steve ArringtonJammin National Anthem ... LP
Atlantic, 1986. Sealed ... $4.99
A bit more pop than some of Steve Arrington's earlier work, but proof that Mr Slave could still come up with a groove when he wanted! The record's got a quirky approach that's almost in line with later versions of P-Funk – but Arrington's never as goofy, and mostly lets the gimmicks come out in the titles and choruses, while keeping things relatively straight on the rest of the tune. Craig Cooper plays a fair bit of guitar and keyboards on the set, and titles include "Jammin National Anthem", "Holiday", "Teenage Jazz", "One Of A Kind Paradise", "Everybody's Got To Be Free", "Homeboy", and "Like It Loud". Steve ArringtonSteve Arrington – Way Out 80 to 84 ... LP
Atlantic/Tummy Touch, Early 80s. New Copy ... $13.99 19.98
Fantastic funky soul from Steve Arrington – the drummer who got his start in Slave, then really exploded on his own with a host of great records in the 80s! This batch of tracks is from those key initial solo years – and the set not only features some of the key cuts that Steve recorded for Atlantic, but also includes a number of never-heard jams that are from the same vintage, and issued here for the first time ever! Arrington's music has been out on the reissue market before, but never in a format that's as well-chosen, well-packed, and well-thought out as this one. Previously unreleased tracks include "Funk & Roll Junky", "Why", and "Mysterious Woman" – and other tracks include "Special FX From Mras", "The Message", "Tribute To John Coltrane", "Without Your Love", "Summertime Lovin", "Hyperspace", and "Crazy About You". 10 tracks in all on the vinyl version. ✨✧ SlaveShow Time ... LP
Cotillion, 1981. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Wonderful work from Slave – an album that's still got the hard funk of earlier years, yet which also has the group sweetening up their sound in a great sort of 80s groove way! Most tracks kick along with that great rolling bass sound that the group practically invented – and which has been their everlasting legacy to mainstream funk – and Steve Arrington's still in the group on lead vocals, really hitting some soaring notes that help the tunes groove even more. Titles include "Party Lites", "Snap Shot", "Smokin", "Wait For Me", "Funken Town", and "Steal Your Heart". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)
