SpeedometerDiggin Deeper ... CD
Freestyle (UK), Late 90s/Early 2000s. Used ... $9.99
A wealth of rare early work from the UK's Speedometer – tunes that were initially pressed up only as limited edition singles on labels like Timmion, Soul Fire, and Kennel Klub – all brought together here for the first time on CD, along with a few previously unissued numbers! Speedometer have definitely been one of the heaviest funk combos going on the other side of the Atlantic for a number of years – a Meters-influenced group with plenty of bass and scratchy guitar at the bottom of their tunes – but also a great talent for blasting the horns way way over the top, and changing up the rhythms with a tightness that few other combos can match! The whole CD's a delight all the way through – and is just about the only way you'll find these tracks anymore. Titles include "Soul Safari", "Speedometer (parts 1 & 2)", "Descarga D'Escargot", "It's My Thing", "Two Beat Beast", "Upstairs At Boston Road", "Up The Down", "Ain't Going To Thursford (parts 1 & 2)", "Hold The Bus", "Time For Change", and "Accra International Airport". ✨✧ SpeedometerOur Kind Of Movement ... CD
Freestyle (UK), 2020. Used ... Out Of Stock
Speedometer have been giving us great funky music for many many years – yet this album may well have the group hitting a whole new level in sound – able to hold on to all the gritty elements of their early days, while also expanding in ways that touch onto Afro Funk, psychedelic funk, and cinematic funky modes too! The core instrumentation is great – with a lineup that's maybe bigger than at the start, but which also adapts to some well-placed shifts in style – on tunes that are half instrumental, and half vocal – the latter of which feature contributions from Vanessa Jamie, Najwa Ezzaher Perso, and James Jr. Titles include "We Gave Up Too Soon", "Abuja Sunrise", "Kashmir", "Edge Of Fear", "Mo Crunch", "Funky Amigo", "Mind Escape", "Look No Further", and "Time To Slow It Down". SpeedometerShakedown ... CD
Freestyle (UK), 2010. Used ... $6.99
Long-running UK funk & soul combo Speedometer – still flooring it the The Shakedown – and bring it with a wider scope than ever before! The group has more vocal numbers in the set, and why wouldn't they when they have the lovely and soulful Rita Currie and guests of the caliber of funky diva/James Brown collaborator Martha High! The range of instrumental styles has been broadened, too. You've got your horn-heavy funky soul stormers, Hammond groovers and hard charging Latin funk jams with Snowboy on the timbalas, bongos and bata drums. Great stuff all around! Titles include "Again And Again", "La Nuea Manera", "You've Made Me So Very Happy", "Orisha", "The Shakedown", "Rubberneck", "Dragging Me Down", "Kool To Be Uncool" and more. CD

SpeedometerSoul Groovin' Live! – Recorded At The Soul Cellar UK May 2008 ... CD
P-Vine (Japan), 2008. Used ... $19.99 24.99
Heavy funk from Speedometer – one of the coolest combos cooking in the contemporary deep funk underground! The album offers a great chance to hear the group live – playing with a sound that's every bit as sharp as on their studio records, with an edge that's even grittier – proof that these guys have plenty going on in the instrumental department, as they deliver a full-on assault filled with heavy drums, burning Hammond, choppy guitar, and lots of great work on horns! Ria Currie joins the group for some very soulful lead vocals on a few tracks – and titles include "At The Speakeasy", "Soul Grooving", "Kool & The Gang/Let The Music Take Your Mind", "Work It Out", "No Man Worries", "Are You My Woman", "Cool To Be Uncool", and "Answer to Mother Popcorn". SpeedometerThis Is Speedometer ... LP
Blow It Hard/Freestyle (UK), 2003. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99 29.99
Heavy funk from Speedometer – a UK power-combo who've really grown their sound over the years! This one's the group's first full-length effort, and it's a really kickin little record with even more to offer than their great 45s! The group's expanded their lineup to feature some great horn work, smoking Hammond, and even some occasional sock-soul vocals from The Speedettes – a female group with a really great sound – not hokey or cliched at all, but with the searing style of some of the best deep soul female groups of the funk years, like The Emotions or The Exciters in their later recordings. The sets shifts easily from vocals to instrumentals – staying funky all the time, but nicely changing up the mode of the tunes. Titles include "What Am I Gonna Do", "Monkey Stick", "Wait Up", "It's Our Turn", "You Know You Can", "Mullet", "Growbag", and "Episode In Palmetto". LP, Vinyl record album

JafrosaxJafrosax Remix ... CD
Konami Media (Japan), 2004. Used ... $18.99 24.99
A selection of remixed groovers from Japan's Jafrosax – most of them pulled from now out of print singles that were all pretty darn expensive in the first place! Jafrosax have a style that's a bit like Sunaga T – mixing together older acoustic jazz elements with a clever dancefloor twist – sometimes hitting a style that's a bit more house oriented overall. The CD features 9 tracks in all, and titles include "In The Morning (Jazztronik reedit)" featuring Vikter Duplaix, "Going To The Sky (Kentaro Takizawa rmx)", "Just Like A Tiger's Eye (Manabu Iwamura 90s mix)" featuring Sana, "Drawn 2 U (Makoto rmx)", and "Rollin (Speedometer rmx)".
