✨✧ Smokey RobinsonPure Smokey ... LP
Motown, 1974. Sealed ... $6.99
Excellent mid 70s work from Smokey, recorded right before his landmark Quiet Storm album, and in a smooth sophisticated style that showed that he was definitely on the right track after splitting from the Miracles! The sound here is totally great – a new level of sophistication for Robinson, and proof that he was one of the key folks who would take soul music to new levels in the 70s! The record includes the excellent "Virgin Man", a loping midtempo track that's not only a great stepper, but also a famous sample riff. Other tracks include "I Am I Am", "Fulfill Your Need", "Just Passing Through", "The Love Between Me & My Kids", and "It's Her Turn To Live". LP, Vinyl record album
(Reissue pressing. Cover has a cutout notch.)

Smokey RobinsonYes It's You Lady ... LP
Tamla, 1982. Near Mint- ... $6.99
A slightly more-grooving record than some of Smokey's others from the time – done in a style that rolls around in a mostly-midtempo mode. There's almost a gentle 80s groove approach at times, although some of the tunes on the set are definitely in that stone mellow love song style that was Smokey's biggest trademark of the time. Titles include "Are You Still Here", "Tell Me Tomorrow", "Yes It's You Lady", "The Only Game In Town", "International Baby", and "Merry Go Ride". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

Tamla, 1967. Sealed ... Just Sold Out!
Lots of great ones – from that period when Smokey was making the group an all-male one, with a harmony sound that was a bit harder than earlier days. Titles include "Going To A Go Go", "Tracks Of My Tears", "Ooo Baby Baby", "I Second That Emotion", "Save Me", "Choosey Beggar", "Whole Lot Of Shakin In My Heart", and "Come On Do The Jerk". ✨✧ Smokey RobinsonEssar ... LP
Tamla, 1984. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Smokey's a little bit off course here – heading into a range of mellow pop soul styles that are clearly inspired by artists who were inspired by Smokey's own majestic solo turn in the 70s – but who never manage to match his quality. And since Smokey's taking inspiration from the uninspired, there's also a quality to this set that feels the weight of that choice. The vocals are fine enough, but perhaps a bit too overly emotive on the ballads – especially for smooth Smokey. The more upbeat numbers have a feel that's trying too hard for a crossover – and even the title (which is a play on Smokey's initials, "SR") is kind of a deal-breaker. Titles include "Train Of Thought", "I Can't Find", "Gone Forever", "Close Encounters of The First Kind", "Little Girl Little Girl", "Girl I'm Standing There", and "Driving Thru Life In The Fast Lane". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve.)

✨✧ Smokey RobinsonWarm Thoughts ... LP
Tamla, 1980. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Warm thoughts, and equally warm vocals – thanks to the legendary Smokey Robinson, who's still sounding great here at the start of the 80s! The record's surprisingly charming – and has the laidback, mellow-going sort of sound that Robinson first crafted on Quiet Storm – but delivered here with a style that's even more personal and intimate, too. Things are quite stripped-down, especially given the overblown styles other singers were reaching for at the time – and titles include "Let Me Be The Clock", "Into Each Rain Some Life Must Fall", 'Wine, Women & Song", 'What's In Your Life For Me", and "I Want To Be Your Love". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cutout notch.)

✨✧ Smokey Robinson & The MiraclesAway We A Go Go ... LP
Tamla, 1966. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A key set in the second chapter of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – that time when the group moved from the mellow ballads that were their first early strength, into some dancefloor stormers that easily made them one of the most favored Motown acts of the time! Smokey definitely takes the "go go" in the title seriously – and comes up with some great grooves that feature plenty of his own lead vocals, including some lesser-known gems that we especially like. Backing by the group is great, too – and the overall sound is extremely sweet harmony soul, with a perfect Motown set of arrangements from the backing group – on titles that include "Can You Love A Poor Boy", "Baby Baby", "I'm The One You Need", "Save Me", "Oh Be My Love", and "Swept For You Baby". LP, Vinyl record album
(Reissue pressing. Cover has a cutout notch and some wear.)

✨✧ Smokey RobinsonBeing With You ... LP
Tamla, 1981. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
A great vehicle for the Smokey Robinson sound in the 80s – and a record that helped Smokey kick off the decade with a really massive hit! "Being With You" still let Smokey stay in an older style of soul-based vocals, without slipping into the adult contemporary sound that would hurt so many other artists of the time – and most of the record has Smokey still stepping around some mellow grooves arranged by Sonny Burke, of the sort that let his sweetly cracking voice come to the forefront. Titles include "Being With You", "You Are Forever", "Can't Fight Love", "As You Do", "If You Wanna Make Love", "Food For Thought", and "Who's Sad". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ SupremesWhere Did Our Love Go ... LP
Motown, 1964. Very Good- ... $14.99
About as classic as you can get for the early Supremes – a set that has the group really hitting hard on all levels, thanks to production from the team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, plus a bit of help from Smokey Robinson – all of whom really help push the Supremes out of simple girl group soul – into the realm of Motown genius they would nearly rule for years to come! Tunes are by HDH, Norman Whitfield, and Smokey – top-shelf songwriting that further enforces the strength of the set – with that mix of poise and class, yet soul and feeling that always graced the group at their best. Titles include the sublime "When The Love Light Starts Shining Through His Eyes", plus the classics "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Baby Love", and the tracks "Come See About Me", "I'm Giving You Your Freedom", "Your Kiss Of Fire", "Ask Any Girl", and "A Breath Taking Guy".
