Albert Elms & Ron Grainer —
Prisoner Vol 2 ... CD SilvaScreen (UK), 1967. Used ...
Out Of Stock
"I am not a number! I am a very groovy LP!" This collection features work from the classic Prisoner TV show of the 60s – starring Patrick McGoohan – and featuring the main theme by Ron Grainer, plus assorted incidental music by A Elms and W Josephs. The whole thing's set up in a progression of bits from episodes that include Arrival/Chimes, Free For All, The General, Dance Of The Dead, Many Happy Returns, and Once Upon A Time. CD
A really unusual soundtrack from the great John Barry – maybe not what you'd expect for a British film set in the 19th Century! A large part of the soundtrack have these great brooding orchestrations – the kinds of passages that Barry would often unfurl in a James Bond film when the big evil devices were being put into place, or when the lair of a villain was first exposed – all these wonderfully well-crafted tones in the orchestrations with an especially strong ear for the lower end of the spectrum. And then, the second half of the set moves into even ore unusual territory – songs that have maybe a touch of South African swing, but with a mod 60s style, and lots of electric guitar – a very startling change, but a groovy one too, and making for some wonderfully swinging numbers! Titles include "Wagons Over", "Big Shield", "High Grass", "Monkey Feathers", "Zulu Maid", and "Stamp and Shake". CD
Barry Gray —
Joe 90 ... CD SilvaScreen (UK), 1968. New Copy ...

Very cool work from British TV maestro Barry Gray – one of the few cats who could ever make music for a show with puppets, and have it end up sounding this cool! Joe 90 is an offshoot of the famous Thunderbirds series of programs – and as with those, Gray comes up with some wonderful sounds that are in the best Brit sound library modes of the late 60s – touches of jazz, mixed with mod elements on upbeat tunes, and taken to some mellower moments in a few other spots – all handled with a wonderfully wide palette of sound! The set's an even bigger collection than the previous CD release of Joe 90 material – with 24 tracks in all – including two takes on the main theme, and material from episodes that include "Double Agent", "Talkdown", "Arctic Adventure", "Big Fish", "Hijacked", "Splashdown", and "The Race".
