Salsoul/Groove Line Records (UK), Late 70s. New Copy ... $16.99
A legendary collection of cuts from Salsoul Records – not just big classics from the label, but special Walter Gibbon mixes that are even more revolutionary than the original tunes! Gibbons has a really wonderful way with a cut – an expansive touch that really opens things up, and makes just about every number here kind of a mini-symphony in clubby soul! The core arrangements and orchestrations of the Salsoul cuts are already wonderful – handled by Vince Montana and other top studio talents – but Gibbons makes those core parts into something even more amazing with his mixes here – still allowing you to love the hooks and grooves, but also taking everything to an even more sophisticated level. Titles include "My Love Is Free" and "Ten Percent" by Double Exposure, "It's Good For The Soul" and "Magic Bird Of Fire" by Salsoul Orchestra, "Let No Man Put Asunder" by First Choice, and "Catch Me On The Rebound" by Loleatta Holloway. This special set expands the original album with five more long bonus tracks, all mixed by Gibbons – "Block Party (Walter Gibbons 12" mix)" by Anthony White, "As Long As You Love Me (Walter Gibbons 12" mix)" by True Example, "Just As Long As I Got You (Walter Gibbons 12" mix)" by Love Committee, "Hit & Run (Walter Gibbons jungle mix)" by Loleatta Holloway, and "Ten Percent (Walter Gibbons 12" mix)". ✨✧ Salsoul OrchestraMagic Journey ... LP
Salsoul, 1977. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Ahhhh . . . The Salsoul Orchestra at its finest, with Vince Montana at the helm, crafting some superb arrangements that have all of the positivity of the best funky club groove that made the group great – without any of the disco schlock of their contemporaries! The group's format is still head and shoulders above most of its imitators here – a perfect balance of larger orchestrations and tighter rhythms for the club – handled with all the best Philly elements that Montana brings to play. Titles include the superb soul track "Run Away", which features excellent lead vocals by Loleatta Holloway – one of her best tracks ever – and other instrumental titles include the funky "Getaway", plus "Magic Bird Of Fire", "It's A New Day", and "Alpha Centuri". Gold Mind, 1977. Very Good+ ... $7.99
If "Hit & Run" was always like this, it wouldn't be a crime! The track's a bouncing joyous number, and one of Loleatta's first bit club tunes – really grooving with a gently funky approach that has lots of great Salsoul Orchestra touches underneath! Great arrangements and production by Norman Harris, too! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(In a Gold Mind sleeve.)
