BT ExpressNon-Stop (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Roadshow/Iconoclassic, 1975. New Copy ... $11.99 15.99
BT Express are speeding it up a bit from the first album – hitting more of a disco vein, as would be their due, since they were one of the key groups in inventing the genre! The core ensemble funk sound is still firmly in place, with loads of great horns arranged by the enigmatic Carlos Ward, a jazzy talent who always brought a nice edge to the group's albums. Titles include the tasty funk cut "Devil's Workshop", which has a similar feel to "Express" – plus the massive "Peace Pipe", a very catchy number that's always been a favorite in Chicago – along with the great tracks "Discotizer", "Give It What You Got", "Whatcha Think About That?", and "Close To You". CD also features five bonus tracks – single versions of "Peace Pipe", "Give It What You Got", "Close To You", and "Whatcha Think About That" – plus a 10 minute disco mix of "Peace Pipe" on CD for the first time! Touch Of ClassTouch Of Class ... LP
Roadshow, 1979. Sealed ... $19.99
A sweet second set from Touch Of Class – a group who broke big in the indie underground of the 70s with their debut – and who still continue here in a great blend of upbeat rhythms and richer soul styles! Some numbers are clearly aimed at the dancefloor – as on their debut – but these guys can also slide into a mellower number with a laidback harmony vibe – a blend that's rooted in some of the younger east coast group modes of the early 70s, but which is taken here to some slightly more mature territory by the trio. Gerald and Pete Jackson of the group handled the arrangements – in a way that's nice and fresh – and a good change from some of the more "packaged" approaches on other albums of this nature. Titles include "Let Yourself Go", "You Took The Sunshine", "I Need Action", "I Found My Rainbow", and "You've Got My Soul". LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing, still sealed. Shrinkwrap is cut at the bottom right corner in back where a promo stamp was applied to the cover.)

✨✧ Ben MooreSlow Dancin ... CD
Roadshow/Octave (Japan), 1979. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of the more unusual albums on the Roadshow label – an imprint best known for New York club in the mid 70s, but here used to showcase the great talents of Ben Moore – a singer who mixes older southern modes with a bit of a modern soul vibe – in an approach that works equally well on the mellow tracks and the groovers! The set was recorded in Nashville and Muscle Shoals – and clearly has an ear towards some of the sounds happening up north at the time – particularly that new level of sophisticated modern soul that some of the Philly male singers were using as the disco years started to wane. Yet Ben Moore's also got more of a southern soul vibe in his vocal phrasing, too – and blended here with smoother backings creates a fresh sound that's a bit like some of the best on Malaco at the time. Titles include "Keeping In Touch", "Get Closer", "Slippin Away", "Love Music", "Easy As Pie", "I've Got A Winner In You", and "I Ain't Got To Love Nobody Else". CD

✨✧ BT Express1980 (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Roadshow/Octave (Japan), 1980. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the greatest albums ever from BT Express – tighter, smoother, and classier than the group's early funky disco sessions – and with a cosmic sound that shows them really growing at the time! The sound here steps off from both the group's own horn-heavy disco sides of the 70s, and from the more righteous ensemble funk work of the Earth Wind & Fire generation – and there's also a nice undercurrent of the snapping midtempo rhythms that would show up even later in the early 80s indie club scene. Funk is still very much a part of the BT Express sound – and even when coming together like an all-pro outfit, the group are still hitting hard on the rhythms and well-crafted guitar parts. A wonderful record throughout – the kind of late session that could easily be overlooked, but which represents some of the group's best work! Titles include "Takin' Off", "Does It Feel Good", "Closer", "Better Late Than Never", and "Have Some Fun". CD features lots of bonus tracks – including "Midnight Beat", "Let Me Be The One", "Does It Feel Good (orig promo 12" version)", "Give Up The Funk (original single)", "Have Some Fun (original single version)", and "Better Late Than Never (original single version)". ✨✧ EnchantmentOnce Upon A Dream ... LP
Roadshow, 1977. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Soaring soul from Enchantment – one of the smoothest groups of their generation, and an outfit who could sound equally great on the dancefloor or for more laidback listening! The harmonies here are really great – stepping out strongly, and often breaking with an extra effort that almost seems gospel-inspired, but without the cliches that usually mar work of that orientation. Production and arrangements are by Michael Stokes, and very good throughout – full, but stepping back nicely on the more intimate numbers – so that the voices dominate beautifully, and really send home the tunes – in a way that's almost like that great turn The Dramatics took in their post-Stax years. Titles include "Up Higher", "Angel Of My Life", "Silly Love Song", "You Must Be An Angel", "If You're Ready", "Sunny Shine Feeling", "It's You That I Need", and "You're The One". ✨✧ BT ExpressShout! ... LP
Roadshow/Columbia, 1977. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
An overlooked gem from BT Express – the group's 5th album, but still very much in the tightly-crafted ensemble mode of earlier years! The guitar and bass interplay on the set is amazing – handled by arranger/guitarist Billy Nichols, with a chromatic edge that really brings a lot of soul to the set! Nichols' work on the album is amazing – honed to an almost Miami funk-like sharpness – and touched by slight bits of moog that really give the set a sinister sort of quality! Lots of lean and mean groovers on the set – including "Shout It Out", "Shake It Off", "You Got Something", "Ride On BT", "Look At The People", "I Want You With Me", "Put It In The Pocket", and "What You Do In The Dark".
