Great stuff by this excellent Detroit harmony group – cut during their best period. "Do Me Right" is a catchy little groover, with kind of a popping bubbling hook that makes the cut one of the group's most memorable. "Just Now & Then" is a slow mellow number, with a southern soul-ish horn finish, and stone Detroit harmonies at the best moments. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Wicked! Not only is this track one of our all-time favorite Funkadelic cuts, but it's got a monster sample on the intro that you'll recognize right away! Wicked stuff, with nearly 10 minutes of the cut over both sides of the single! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(In a Warner/Reprise sleeve. Label has a number in marker.)
Although James Phelps has a deep raw soul voice – he's matched here with some nice uptown arrangements courtesy of Phil Wright, for a sound that's a lot like some of the best solo Ben E. King solo stuff for Atlantic! "Love Is A 5-Letter Word" is a nice slowly-rolling track with a catchy chorus – and "I'll Do The Best" has an uptowny style that's wonderful – really one of those "shoulda been a hit" kind of tunes! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Early work by Ebony Rhythm Funk, and much funkier than their later stuff – which actually isn't that funky at all! The record's got a driving righteous message – kind of imploring the listener to get up and go get what they want! Wayne Henderson produced, too – with a sweet electric funk groove that's like early 70s work by The Crusaders on Chisa! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Brilliant stuff – the massive two part single that broke Donny out of the box! The tune's spiritual, celebratory, and downright funky – co-written with Leroy Hutson, and a mixture of electric piano, bass, and conga that's totally sublime! 7-inch, Vinyl record
(Later Oldies series pressing. Vinyl has a tiny drill hole.)
