VariousLegacy Of NuSoul (3CD set – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Sony (Germany), Late 90s/2000s. New Copy 3CD ... $12.99
Call it what you want – Nu Soul, Neo Soul, or just plain ol' contemporary soul – the sound of R&B has changed a lot in the past decade or two, as you'll hear in this wonderful batch of tracks! The collection is heavy on work from the Sony and RCA catalogs – and includes a fair bit of the best acts to break big from the underground, then find a huge audience in the mainstream – and there's some especially great tracks from the 90s, back when this movement first got going, but before anyone thought to give it a label. 3CD set features 32 tracks in all – and titles include "Heavenly Daughter (soul inside mix)" by Kwesi, "Is It Possible" by Raheem DeVaughn, "Stick Up Kid" by Lyfe Jennings, "I Won't" by Alica Keys, "Hopeless" by Dionne Farris, "Just What It Takes (human rhythm rmx)" by Kenny Lattimore, "She Don't Have To Know" by John Legend, "Still Believe In Love" by Jacksoul, "I Am Your Woman (summertime rmx radio)" by Syleena Johnson, "Get Up" by Amel Larrieux, "So Good" by Davina feat Raekwon, "If I Had You" by Frankie, "You Will Rise" by Sweetback, "Oh Girl" by Raphael Saadiq, "Finer Things" by Jon B feat Nas, "Charlene" by Anthony Hamilton, "Matrimony Maybe You" by Maxwell, "Inside My Love" by Trina Broussard, "Don't You Forget It" by Glenn Lewis, "Nature Of A Man" by Heather Headley, "I Can't Help It" by Davina, "Need You" by 7 Sons Of Soul, and "Guess Who Loves You More" by Raheem DeVaughn. ✨✧ Ghostface KillahBulletproof Wallets ... LP
Epic/Get On Down, 2001. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Ghostface's follow up to Supreme Clientele – a tough predecessor to live up, no doubt about that – but Bulletproof Wallets is still a cut or 10 above some of the Wu work of the later 90s and early 00s! The single "Ghost Showers" is a straight up classic level track, and "Never Be The Same Again" with Raekwon and Carl Thomas is another killer cut – and all-in-all, this one holds up strong overall. Other titles include "Flowers" with Method Man & Superb, "Jealousy", "The Juks" feat Trife & Superb, "Walking Through Darkness" feat Takitha, "The Hilton", "Ice" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Mobb DeepHell On Earth ... LP
Loud, 1997. Used 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
While the other standouts of the class of '95 like Nas, Jay Z and AZ drifted towards the Escobar/Gambino/Cristal style, Mobb Deep avoided that trend in this tight follow-up to their legendary Infamous debut! Their subject matter may not have evolved or expanded too much, but their strong production is top notch and strong to this day.. Also, some nice guest appearances from Method Man, Raekwon, Nas, Big Noyd. Includes the hilarious "Drop A Gem On 'Em", "Hell On Earth", "Extortion", "More Trife Life", "Still Shinin'", "G.O.D. Pt III", "Nighttime Vultures", "Bloodsport" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousLegacy Of R' N' B Party (3CD set – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Sony (Germany), 1990s. New Copy 3CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Funky soul from the 90s – music that's mainstream, but which also draws some nice touches from the underground too – especially the wave of hip hop production that was helping to bring some sharper edges to the grooves in more familiar soul and R&B! The set's a lot hipper than you might think from the Kandi-styled cover, or the "party" on the front – as the tunes are the sort that are really well-remembered from back in the day, and mostly not the stuff of crossover hits. 3CD set features 34 tracks in all – and titles include "Butta Love (you got the love rmx)" by Next with Naughty By Nature, "Come On Out" by Dede Lopez, "Unpretty (don't look any further rmx w/rap)" by TLC, "Head Over Heels" by Allure with Nas, "Keep It Real" by Jon B & Coko with Jay-Z, "Still In Love" by Nivea, "U Don't Have To Call" by Usher, "Weekend (radio mix)" by Kenny Lattimore, "I See You" by Best Man, "All Eyez On Me (urban mix)" by Monica, "Too Close (Phatboy club mix)" by Next, "Thank God It's Friday" by R Kelly, "1 Thing" by Amerie, "Joyride" by Men Of Vizion with Tasha Scott, "Put Me Down" by Donell Jones, "Let's Get Married (ReMarquable rmx)" by Jagged Edge with Run, "Daydreamin Part 2 (ext version)" by Tatyana Ali with Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, "Tell Me (6 Karat hip hop mix)" by Groove Theory with Brand Nubian, "After Party" by Koffee Brown, and "No More (Cuban Linx 2000 rmx)" by Ruff Endz feat Ghostface Killah & Raekwon. ✨✧ Freddie Gibbs & MadlibPinata ... CD
Madlib Invazion, 2014. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Smart , streetwise raps from Freddie Gibbs, backed by restlessly inventive production from Madlib – here on one of the best records yet on 'Lib's own Madlib Invazion imprint! If you'll forgive us a little bit of repetition – because we KNOW we've written this before – there's just something extra riveting about Madlib's production work for straight shooting, street lingo slinging, no nonsense MCs. The freewheeling inspiration and bottomless depth of unpredictable sample funk is there, as always. It's leaner, tighter and with a thicker backdrop of beats. Gibbs is sharply on point throughout here, and if it seems like an oddball pairing at first glance, rest assured, these guys work GREAT together. Guests include Danny Brown – who drops some top shelf wordplay of his own on "High" – plus the Wu legend Raekwon on "Bomb", Domo Genius & Earl Sweatshirt on "Robes", Domo Genius, G-Whiz, Mac Miller and more on the title cut, and more. Other titles include "Supplier", "Scarface", "Deeper", "Harold's", "Thuggin'", "Real" and "Uno". CD

✨✧ Ghostface Killah & Adrian YoungeTwelve Reasons To Die 2 ... LP
Linear Labs, 2015. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A superior sequel to Ghostface Killah & Adrian Younge's Twelve Reasons To Die saga – cementing the mid teens Ghostface creative resurgence in a major way – with some of the finest production work by Younge to date! It's a stunning reminder of how sharp Ghostface can be this late in the game when he's really feeling it, and he's a gracious host here, too – collaborating with Raekwon on the mic throughout the record, even featuring some moody narration by RZA – and seriously impressive guest appearances by Scarab, Lyrics Born, Chino XL and Bilal. There's a real mythology to the project, with a loose, but genuinely compelling narrative arc – combining prime Wu school crime noir rhymes and soundtrack funk production inspired by giallo, Blacksploitation and Younge's own distinct genius. Includes "Powerful One", "Daily News", "Return Of The Savage" with Raekwon & RZA, ,"Death's Invitation" with Scarab, Lyrics Born and Chino XL, "King Of New York", "Let The Record Spin" and "Blackout" with Raekwon, "Resurrection Morning" with Raekwon and Bilal and "Life's A Rebirth" with RZA. ✨✧ Wu Tang ClanWu – Story Of The Wu Tang Clan ... CD
Loud/Legacy, 1990s/Early 2000s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock

Some of the tightest Wu Tang and first wave solo joints including "Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing To F Wit", "Method Man", "Da Mystery Of Chess Boxin'", "Reunited", "It'z Yourz", "Gravel Pit" and more by the namesake crew, "Incarcerated Scarfaces" by Raekwon, "Daytona 500" by Ghostface, Raekwon & Cappadonna, "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" by ODB, "Winter Warz" by Ghostface and more! ✨✧ Doom (MF Doom)Born Like This ... LP
Lex, 2009. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Doom is back, sans the MF prefix, fully loaded with funky sci fi hip hop that's fit to shake the heavens – his first record in far too long, and a strong one! We don't know where the masked man holed himself up in the couple years before this set, nor do we pay much attention to the rumors and gossip (he's locked up! he's sending out imposters!), but it doesn't matter, as he's come back sharp. We hear less Marvel Comics in the beats, and more spacey, blunt funk – particularly on the handful of tracks that have additional instrumentation by Mr Chop – with guests including Raekwon, Ghostface, Slug, Bumpy Knuckles, Posdnous & Prince Paul – plus additional production by Dilla, Madlib, and Jake One! There's some great stuff here, and whether the guy is truly certifiable or if it's all a put on, we love 'em either way. Stay close by, Doom! Titles include "Gazzilion Ear", "Ballskin", "Lightworks", "Batty Boyz", "Rap Ambush", "Stil Dope", "Microwave Mayo", "Supervillainz", "Bumpy's Message" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ J DillaJay Stay Paid ... LP
Nature Sounds, 2009. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
An excellent full length set of beats & genius from J Dilla – put together by fellow beatmaker extraordinaire Pete Rock, with all Dilla beats – a surprising triumph! Call us jaded, but honestly, we weren't sure how deep the well could go of ready-to-go beats from Dilla, but this stuff is truly top shelf – nearly as strong as the instant classic Donuts from a few years back! Pete Rock crafts the set as if it's a radio show or mixtape, but his skill in so doing is well above and beyond the norm – neither Pete's interjections nor the guest rappers ever get in the way of the flow, it's as smooth as can be. Vocal guests include Ma Dukes (the album was made under Ma's auspices), plus Lil Fame & MOP, Black Thought, Frank Nitty of Frank N Dank, Doom, Illa J & Cue D, Blu, and others. Titles include "King", "I Told Yall", "Smoke" feat Blu, "CaDILLAc". "Fire Wood Drumstix" feat Doom, "Big Day", "24K Rap" feat Havoc of Mobb Deep & Raekwon, "Coming Back", "Mythsysizer" and more. 27 tracks in all, about an hour of unreleased Dilla!
