✨✧ Cissy HoustonCissy Houston (Private Stock) ... LP
Private Stock, 1977. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the best 70s showcases for the mighty vocals of Cissy Houston – that tremendous approach that was rooted in gospel, but burst out strongly in the secular world – thanks to records like this! Houston's working here with clubby maestro Michael Zager, but the set's not all disco – and instead does a great job of mixing mellower cuts with more upbeat numbers – always with a focus on Cissy's bold approach to the lyrics. Titles include "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother", "Tomorrow", "Morning Much Better", "Love's Holding On", "Love Is Something That Leads You", and "It Never Really Ended". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Walter MurphyFifth Of Beethoven ... LP
Private Stock, 1976. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A huge crossover album of the 70s – one that took an east coast disco groove, and introduced influences from a wide variety of classical themes – best summed up in the title hit "A Fifth Of Beethoven", which was a surprisingly successful radio tune at the time! The effort's a strange one, but was part of a larger movement at the time that was introducing many older musical modes – such as standards or showtunes – onto the dancefloor in an effort to give the less underground clubgoers something to sink their teeth into. And while the approach seemed like a bit of a gimmick, it was also probably inspired by Deodato's big hit with "Zarathustra" and a few other classical themes – echoed here by Murphy's great keyboard work on a few other numbers. The album features the classical tracks "Flight 76", "Night Fall", "Fifth Of Beethoven", and "Russian Dressing" – plus the non-classical Murphy originals "California Strut" (with vocals by Angie Bofil), "Be Your Own Best Friend", "Suite Love Symphony", and "Midnight Express". ✨✧ Jose FelicianoAngela ... LP
Private Stock, 1976. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
An obscure 70s album from the great Jose Feliciano – a set that was originally done as soundtrack material for an equally obscure film – Aaron Loves Angela – one that mixes Jose's more intimate style with some fuller backings from the disco generation! Barry Fasman handled the charts on most of the tracks – and the instrumentation features some nice larger touches, but with sharp instrumentation that even includes work from Willie Bobo on a few cuts too! Jose is fantastic vocally – able to come across with a wonderful sense of soul, which is often matched by some beautiful guitar work as well. Titles include "Angela", "Michelangelo", "Why", "Nirvana", "Sweet Street", "I've Got A Feeling", and "Salsa Negra". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Cissy HoustonThink It Over ... LP
Private Stock, 1978. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
No need to think it over here – as the album's so groovy, we jump right in – thanks to plenty of upbeat disco arrangements from arranger Michael Zager! Zager worked previously with Cissy Houston, but here he really takes her out to the clubs – mixing strings and rhythms into some sweetly soaring backings that really work well with Houston's gospel-trained voice! There's a nice sense of drama to some of the grooves, but never too much to be campy – and titles include "Warning Danger", "An Umbrella Song", "Somebody Should Have Told Me", "Think It Over", "I Won't Be The One", and "Love Don't Hurt People".
