Fantastic late live material by Sun Ra and the Arkestra – presented here properly for the first time ever – with fantastic sound, and the full contents of two different sets – which really lets you get to hear the Arkestra at their best! Each concert is a wonderful progression of material – and really show the way that, near the end of Ra's life, the group was able to embrace so many different generations of jazz at once – sounding straight one minute, out the next, leaning trad at others, and snapping back with a sense of modernity that's still years ahead of its time! June Tyson and Michael Ray sing on a few tracks – and John Gilmore even sings once, too – and the group features Gilmore on tenor, Marshall Allen on flute and alto, James Jacson on flute and bassoon, Tyrone Hill on trombone, Knoel Scott on alto, Jothan Callins on bass, Charles Davis on baritone, and Ahmed Abdullah and Michael Ray on trumpets. As with most Arkestra concerts, the transition between moods and songs is what really makes this set great – with lots of unique moments that further our faith in the live Sun Ra experience.
