✨✧ Intercity Sound AssociationPhilly Sound ... CD
Sonorama (Germany), 1975. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A record that really lives up to its title, given the sweet Philly grooves of the set – a real surprise, given that the album was recorded in Germany! The session's a rare studio project in the early years of the German disco scene – and comes off with the best soulful styles that were bubbling up in the US at the time – clubby instrumental grooves that are filled with soaring strings and tight rhythms – yet served up in ways that are never too overdone! In fact, if you slapped some obscure US label on this one, folks would be more than willing to believe that the set's some underground corner from the New York scene – quite a surprise for a record that was initially cut just for sound library usage. Titles include "City Train", "Alaska Flight", "Skyline", "Night Shift", "Full House", "Star Shot", "Rush Hour", "Sun Ship", and "Flash Point". CD

✨✧ SpinnersComplete Atlantic Singles – The Thom Bell Productions 1972 to 1979 ... CD
Atlantic/Real Gone, Mid 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A great lost side of The Spinners' landmark career at Atlantic Records in the 70s – a huge package that brings together 43 tracks from 7" single releases – over half of which appear here on CD for the first time ever! As you'll see by the title, the work is from that magnificent period when The Spinners moved from Motown to record for Atlantic Records in Philly with producer Thom Bell – the genius who gave them a chance to really soar, and open up their vocals in ways the Motown material never matched! This material was every bit as important to the growth of 70s soul into new mature territory as work on the Philly International label – and although the a-sides of these singles include many classic hits, the b-sides often include a fair bit of obscure, non-album tracks that really make the whole thing worth having, even if you've got plenty of other Spinners titles in your collection. Tracks include "Just You & Me Baby", "Don't Let The Green Grass Fool You", "I'll Be Around", "He'll Never Love You Like I Do", "Just As Long As We Love Love", "Smile We Each Have Each Other", "Lazy Susan", "I Don't Want To Lose You", "You Made A Promise To Me", "If You Can't Be In Love", "You're All I Need In Life", "I'm Riding Your Shadow", and "One Step Away" – plus lots more, including the better-known hits! ✨✧ SpinnersNew & Improved ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino, 1974. Used ... Out Of Stock
A great batch of sophisticated soul tracks, with sweet Philly arrangements by Thom Bell, and nice studio work by the usual suspects. Includes the massive track "Sadie", a longtime fave in Chicago, and recently redone by R. Kelly. Other titles include "Sitting On Top Of The World", "Then Came You", "There's No One Like You", "I've Got To Make It On My Own", and "Lazy Susan". CD

✨✧ Johnny GriffinWay Out! ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1958. Used ... Out Of Stock
One of the sharpest 50s sessions from Johnny Griffin – a hip quartet date for Riverside, done at the time when he was working heavily with Thelonious Monk! The album's definitely got an angular groove that shows Monk's influence, but it's also shows Griffin's Chicago's roots as well – with an approach to hardbop that's plenty tight, but never too much so to lose its sense of soul – that careful balance that players like Griffin, Clifford Jordan, or Von Freeman were bringing to tenor improvisation at the time. The rest of the group's perfectly suited to this mode – and features Kenny Drew on piano, Wilbur Ware on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Titles include "Little John", "Where's Your Overcoat Baby", "Hot Sausage", "Teri's Tune", and "Sunny Monday". CD
