✨✧ Nana Caymmi & Cesar Camargo MarianoVoz E Suor ... CD
EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1983. Used ... Out Of Stock
A warm intimate set by these two legendary Brazilian talents – Nana Caymmi on vocals, and the legendary Cesar Camargo Mariano playing some wonderfully mellow keyboards. Mariano plays electric piano on most of the set, and the album's got a laidback quality that brings out the best in Nana – and which avoids some of the overly-dark styles that can sometimes bog down other albums from the time. Great stuff overall – with tracks that include "Fruta Boa", "Voz E Suor", "Velho Piano", "Doce Presenca", and "Isso E Aquilo". CD

✨✧ Nana CaymmiResposta Ao Tempo (EMI PAC Edition) ... CD
EMI (Brazil), 1998. Used ... Out Of Stock
Lovely later work from Nana Caymmi – just the sort of record that makes her a perfect heir to her family's strong musical tradition! The arrangements are full, but the feeling is close-up and personal – that sense of intimacy that Nana always brings to her best work – in ways that are never in the too romantic or soppy styles that you might get from less-skilled singers. Best of all, there's a slight rasp to her vocals that really comes through well – cutting through the backings and bringing us even closer together. Titles include "Doralinda", "Cantiga", "Ate O Redentor", "Resposta Ao Tempo", "Meu Sonho", "Longe Dos Olhos", "Ate Pensei",a nd "A Cara Do Espelho". CD

✨✧ VariousWave – Nos E O Mar (Brazilian Music Inspired By The Sea) ... CD
Dubas (Brazil), 1960s/1980s/1990s. Used ... Out Of Stock
A sound that's as gentle as the breezes of the sea – served up in a lovely package that brings together Brazilian grooves both old and new! This volume follows nicely in the spirit of others in the series – going for a unique corner of Brazilian music that echoes with the inspiration of the Atlantic – an inspiration that echoes not just in the lyrics of the tunes, but also in the way they open up in gentle waves of sound. There's a sense of quietude here that recalls the calmness of the ocean in the morning, and the set features 14 titles from a 40 year range of recordings – including "Joao Valentao" by Caetano Veloso, "Canto De Yemanja" by Joyce, "Corrida De Jangada" by Edu Lobo, "Veleiro Azul" by Luiz Melodia, "Desejo Do Mar" by Johnny Alf, "O Mar E Meu Chao" by Dori Caymmi, "Brisa No Mar" by Nana Caymmi, "Domingo Azul Do Mar" by Wanda Sa, and "Wave" by Nara Leao. ✨✧ Pippo SperaA Buen Puerto (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Sondor/Lion, 1977. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A very groovy bit of Argentine rock – a bit lighter and more dreamy than sets from earlier in the 70s, but in a really great way! There's a nicely languid feel to the whole record – gentle rhythms on percussion, speared with just a bit of atmospheric organ – and vocals from Pippo that float along gently with the sound – often hitting a mode that's much more bossa nova than you'd expect, but maybe no surprise, given that the album features a Dorival Caymmi cover! The percussion really sets the tone for the record, but the light bits of guitar and organ are great too – and in a way, we might almost say that the set's got the same sort of bossa nova extrapolation/exploration you'd find in some of the mellower post-punk projects of early 80s UK, or maybe even like some of the cooler projects coming from the Benelux scene. Titles include "A Buen Porto", "Dejalo Libre", "El Amor No Espera", "Columbande", "Nina Malcriada", "Puedo Ser Que Manana", and "Debes Encontralo En Ti". Also features 2 bonus cuts – "Rejouis Toi" and "Y Sin Embargo Tu Estabas Ahi". CD
