✨✧ Clebanoff & His OrchestraLush, Latin & Bossa Nova Too! ... LP
Mercury, 1963. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just the usual snoozer you might expect from Clebanoff – thanks to a good dose of bossa in the mix! The style here is still heavy on the strings, as in the usual Clebanoff mode – but the overall arrangements are also considerably lighter, and trade previous romantic shadings for a breezier Brazilian mode – one that's carried off by lots of lightly snapping percussion at the bottom, and some great instrumental touches on guitar, vibes, and just a bit of flute! In a way, the record's almost a bridge between the older American and European instrumental style of the 50s and some of the new orchestrations that were being penned in Brazil in the 60s – a key early example of that influence on these shores, and featuring tunes that include "Land Of My Land", "Poinciana", "O Passaro", "Jazz Samba", "Mima", and Lalo Schifrin's "Whispering Bossa Nova". Don PullenTomorrow's Promises ... LP
Atlantic, 1977. Very Good+ ... $11.99 14.99
A strange and beautiful album from the late Don Pullen! The record is almost a funk album at times, but it's really more of an electrically-tinged session that brings Pullen's lively keyboards into play with some strident groupings that include George Adams, Hannibal Marvin Peterson, and Roland Prince. The whole thing's got a really sweet mellow feel – with lots of nice work on Fender Rhodes and clavinet by Pullen. There's even some electronic accompaniment provided on a couple of numbers by Ilhan Mimaroglu. Tracks include "Big Alice", "Poodie Pie", "Last Year's Lies & Tomorrow's Promises", and the Latin-tinged "Kadji". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a cutout hole, light wear, and a tracklist sticker.)

✨✧ Freddie HubbardSing Me A Song Of Songmy ... LP
Atlantic, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of Freddie Hubbard's wildest records ever – a really unique experiment with electronics, and a set that sounds way different than his other albums for Atlantic, Blue Note, or CTI! The key factor here is experimentalist Ilhan Mimaroglu – who adds lots of electronics and processed sounds to the set – blended with Freddie's more soulful lines on trumpet – to create a style that's almost a jazz version of musique concrete! In fact, at times, you forget that Hubbard's playing at all, as the wash of noise overtakes the force of some of his solos – and titles include "Threnody For Sharon Tate", "The Crowd", and "What A Good Time For Kent State". LP, Vinyl record album
(Very nice original pressing! Coer has a small cutout mark.)

✨✧ VariousCongotronics 2 – Buzz N Rumble From The Urb'n Jungle (CD & DVD) ... CD
Crammed/Ziriguiboom, 2006. Used CD & DVD ... Out Of Stock
The brilliant follow up to the first Congotronics album – and a set that goes even deeper than the initial groundbreaking work by Konono! This album follows in a very similar spirit to Konono's Congotronics set – and like that one, focuses on musicians with a unique electro/acoustic approach to African rhythms! Groups on the set all hail from the Kinshasa scene, like Konono, they retro-fit older styles with homemade amplification – in a way that electrifies the grooves, but often with a sound that's highly distorted – creating great fuzzy tones and noises alongside the rhythms! Konono appear on one track in the set, but the real strength comes from these other groups working in a similar mode – as they bring new instruments, sounds, and modes of expression to the format – showing that the style is not just a happy accident, but a powerful new wave of music from the urban African scene! Titles include "Mulume" by Basokin, "Bosamba Ndeke" by Bolia We Ndenge, "Kiwembo" by Sobanza Mimanisa, "Wa Muluendu" by Masanka Sakayia & Kasai Allstars, "Soif Conjugale" by Kisanzi Congo, "La Laboureur" by Masanka Sakai, "Koyile/Nyeka Nyeka" by Kasai Allstars, and "TP Coleur Cafe" by Konono No 1. CD
(Comes with a DVD featuring footage of 6 of the groups on the set!)

✨✧ BadfingerNo Dice (longbox edition – with bonus tracks) ... CD
Apple/Capitol, Early 1970s. Used ... Out Of Stock
Badfinger comes into their own on No Dice – with a few buzzing rockers this time out, a pretty huge step from the more easygoing pop of Magic Christian Music (sweet as that stuff is) – with harder hitting groovers that kind of predict some of more tuneful power pop to follow in Badfinger's wake, but showcasing some pretty intense emotion, too, on the classic "Without You" and other tracks. Titles include "I Can't Take It", "I Don't Mind", "Blodwyn", "Better Days", "It Had To Be Me", "Believe Me", "We're For The Dark", "No Matter What" and more. This Capitol pressing includes 5 bonus tracks "Get Down", "Friends Are Hard To Find", "Mean Mean Jemima", "Loving You", "I'll Be The One" – plus 5 bonus tracks! CD

✨✧ Freddie HubbardSing Me A Song Of Songmy/Echoes Of Blue ... CD
Atlantic/Collectables, 1971/1976. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A great collection of 2 of Freddie's 70s sides for Atlantic. Sing Me A Song is a wild record! Freddie Hubbard plays trumpet amdist a very out, very avant set of electromagnetic and processed sounds, put together by Ilhan Mimaroglu! The record is completely unlike any other album Hubbard did, and sounds more like an early musique concrete work than it does an early 70's album on Atlantic. In fact, at times, you forget that Hubbard's playing at all, as the wash of noise is far more compelling than his solos, which have sort of a cold processed feel in most parts. Tracks include "Threnody For Sharon Tate", "The Crowd", and "What A Good Time For Kent State". Echoes is a nice set that often gets overlooked, but which features a sweet mellow funky sound arranged by Freddie, produced by Arif Mardin, and which features playing by Bennie Maupin, James Spaulding, and Kenny Barron. Titles include "Backlash", "Echoes Of Blue", "Latina", and "On The Que-Tee". CD

✨✧ Stone AllianceHeads Up ... LP
PM, 1980. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Stone Alliance move down to a duo here – the mighty team of Don Alias on drums and Gene Perla on bass – and the pair bring in a whole host of great guest stars to take the place of recently-departed reedman Steve Grossman! To us, the record would be more than great enough on its own with just the grooves of Perla and Alias – but the set really warms up from contributions by artists who include Michael Brecker on tenor, Dave Liebeman on reeds, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Alex Acuna on percussion, and Jan Hammer on keyboards – keeping things as tight and focused as on his best 70s funky fusion outings. Perla and Alias keep things tight and choppy in the rhythms – a nice undercurrent of funk on most tracks – and titles include "Pedra Da Lua", "Trampoline", "Aunt Remus", "Tribute To Afreeka", and "Uncle Jemima". LP, Vinyl record album
