✨✧ SlikSlik (with bonus tracks) ... CD
7T's (UK), Mid 70s. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The bright 70s Scots pop of Slik – their first and only album – packed up with a wealth of bonus tracks! Slik was led by vocalist/guitarist Midge Ure – who went on to take part in some pretty noteworthy projects in the years to come – and with the Slik he worked on a chiming little groove overseen by composers Bill Martin and Phil Coulter – who also worked with the Bay City Rollers! Original LP tracks include "Dancearama", "Darlin'", "Bom-Bom", "Better Than I Do", "Forever And Ever", "Requiem", "Do It Again", "When Will I Be Loved", "Day By Day" and "No We Won't Forget You". CD includes 12 bonus tracks: "Boogiest Band In Town", "Hatchet", "Again My Love", "Slik Shuffle", "Don't Take You're Love Away", "This Side Up", "No Star", "The Getaway" and more! CD

Lee MorganUnforgettable Lee Live At Birdland ... CD
Fresh Sound (Spain), 1960. Used 2 CDs ... $14.99
A fitting title for this scorching set tracks led by the incomparable Lee Morgan – captured over several dates throughout 1960 at the legendary Birdland club – and backed up by Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers! Nothing but legends on the stage here – with Morgan's trumpet out front of Blakey on the kit, Bobby Timmons on piano, Wayne Shorter on tenor, and Jymie Merrit on bass. The tracks on the first disc were recorded on three dates in the spring and summer of '60, and they include "The Chess Players", "This Here", "The Midget", "Nelly Bly", "Dat Dere", "Justice", Night In Tunisia" and more. Disc two features numbers recorded in the summer and fall of the same year, and it includes "Lester Left Town" with Lester Young sitting in on piano, "It's Only A Paper Moon", "This Here", Sakeena's Vision", "Koko's Waltz" and more. ✨✧ Count BasieApril In Paris ... LP
Verve, 1955. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of Basie's biggest albums – but still a work of pure genius! "April In Paris" is one of the darkest jazz standards ever written, and it never sounded better than in this original version, which features that great ending in which Basie and the band stop, then start, then stop – leaving you completely unresolved at the finish. The group's a strong one – with Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Freddie Green, Sonny Payne, Marshall Royal, Henry Coker, Joe Newman, and Thad Jones – and tracks include "Shiny Stockings", "Midgets", "Mambo Inn", "Sweety Cakes", and "Corner Pocket". LP, Vinyl record album
(Early 80s mono Japanese pressing – UMV 2641. Vinyl has a short click on "Shiny Stockings".)

✨✧ Alejandro Jodorowsky/Adan JodorowskyDance Of Reality ... LP
Abkco/Real Gone, 2013. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful soundtrack material for the last film ever from Alejandro Jodorowsky – composed and performed by his son Adan – aka Adanowsky – in a style that's surprisingly sensitive, and wonderfully thoughtful throughout! The movie is a fantasy autobiography from the legendary filmmaker – and Adan scores the music at a level that takes us back to some of our favorite French soundtracks of the 60s and 70s – sentimental, but never soppy – carefully emotive, yet never overdone – with a haunting blend of keyboards, piano, and light strings – all used in very focused ways, on melodies that range somewhere between the furniture music of Satie, and the whimsical themes of Nino Rota. First-ever release of the soundtrack – with titles that include "Los Mineros", "Bucefalo", "Jose", "Bodisua", "The Midget", "God Doesn't Exist", and "The Clowns". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Gene KrupaExciting Gene Krupa ... LP
Clef/Verve, Early 50s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Despite the fact that he was a showy bombastic drummer in his big band days during the early 50s, Gene Krupa made some fantastic small group sessions – and this is one of them! The record features two different groups – one with the great Willie Smith on alto, the other with Ben Webster on tenor – and both of them are tightly swinging combos with a very mature sound. Smith is an especially nice treat here – as his incredible alto playing is woefully underdocumented, and only really shows up on a few small Verve sessions like this. Titles include "Jungle Drums", "Showcase", "Midget", and "Overtime". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Lewis NashJazz Museum ... CD
All Art/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1976. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Lewis Nash is one of the hippest contemporary cats in jazz – so you can bet than any album of his with "museum" in the name isn't going to be staid or stodgy! Instead, the record's a very alive batch of tunes – work that features the famous Frank Wess on both tenor and flute, with great support from a group that includes Nash on drums, Terrell Stafford on trumpet, Jesse Davis on alto sax, Mulgrew Miller on piano, and Peter Washington on bass. The recording's a live one, and the rhythmic style is a bit more classic than some of Nash's other work – but it's rock-solid material all the way through, and Wess is mighty lucky to get some fresh exposure in such a great setting. Titles include "Round Midnight", "Work Song", "Autumn Leaves", "Moanin", "Cool Struttin", "Lotus Blossom", and "The Midgets". CD
